1 M y son, forget not my teaching, and let thy heart observe my commandments;

Fiul meu, nu uita învăţătura mea, ci păstrează în inima ta poruncile mele,

2 f or length of days, and years of life, and peace shall they add to thee.

căci ele îţi vor prelungi zilele şi anii vieţii tale şi îţi vor adăuga pace.

3 L et not loving-kindness and truth forsake thee; bind them about thy neck, write them upon the tablet of thy heart:

Îndurarea şi credincioşia să nu te părăsească niciodată! Leagă-ţi-le la gât, scrie-le pe tăbliţa inimii tale!

4 a nd thou shalt find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Atunci vei găsi bunăvoinţă şi un bun renume înaintea lui Dumnezeu şi înaintea oamenilor.

5 C onfide in Jehovah with all thy heart, and lean not unto thine own intelligence;

Încrede-te în Domnul din toată inima ta şi nu te bizui pe înţelepciunea ta.

6 i n all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will make plain thy paths.

Recunoaşte-L în toate căile tale şi El îţi va îndrepta cărările.

7 B e not wise in thine own eyes; fear Jehovah, and depart from evil:

Nu te considera înţelept în ochii tăi; teme-te de Domnul şi fereşte-te de rău.

8 i t shall be health for thy navel, and moisture for thy bones.

Aceasta va aduce sănătate trupului tău şi rezistenţă oaselor tale.

9 H onour Jehovah with thy substance, and with the first-fruits of all thine increase;

Cinsteşte-L pe Domnul cu bunurile tale, cu primele roade din toată recolta ta!

10 s o shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy vats shall overflow with new wine.

Astfel hambarele tale vor fi pline de belşug, iar teascurile tale se vor revărsa de must.

11 M y son, despise not the instruction of Jehovah, neither be weary of his chastisement;

Fiul meu, nu dispreţui disciplinarea Domnului şi nu fi mâhnit când eşti mustrat de El,

12 f or whom Jehovah loveth he chasteneth, even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

pentru că Domnul îl mustră pe cel pe care-l iubeşte, ca un tată pe fiul pe care-l primeşte.

13 B lessed is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Binecuvântat este omul care găseşte înţelepciunea şi cel care dobândeşte priceperea,

14 F or the gain thereof is better than the gain of silver, and her revenue than fine gold.

pentru că ea este mai de preţ decât argintul şi venitul ei este mai mare decât al aurului.

15 S he is more precious than rubies; and all the things thou canst desire are not equal unto her.

Ea este mai valoroasă decât mărgăritarele; orice ţi-ai dori nu se poate compara cu ea.

16 L ength of days is in her right hand; in her left hand riches and honour.

În dreapta ei este o viaţă lungă; în stânga ei se află bogăţie şi onoare.

17 H er ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

Căile ei sunt plăcute şi toate cărările ei sunt paşnice.

18 S he is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her; and happy is he that retaineth her.

Ea este un pom al vieţii pentru cei ce o îmbrăţişează; oricine o apucă este binecuvântat.

19 J ehovah by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens.

Prin înţelepciune a întemeiat Domnul pământul, prin pricepere a întocmit cerurile;

20 B y his knowledge the deeps were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.

prin cunoştinţa Lui, adâncurile s-au despărţit şi norii au picurat roua.

21 M y son, let them not depart from thine eyes; keep sound wisdom and discretion:

Fiul meu, păstrează priceperea şi prudenţa, nu-ţi îndepărta privirea de la ele.

22 s o shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace unto thy neck.

Acestea vor fi viaţă pentru sufletul tău şi o podoabă graţioasă pentru gâtul tău.

23 T hen shalt thou walk in thy way securely, and thy foot shall not stumble;

Atunci vei merge în siguranţă pe calea ta şi nu ţi se va împiedica piciorul.

24 w hen thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid, but thou shalt lie down and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Când te vei culca, vei fi fără teamă şi când vei dormi, somnul îţi va fi dulce.

25 B e not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the destruction of the wicked, when it cometh;

Nu te teme nici de dezastrul care soseşte pe neaşteptate, nici de nenorocirea care vine din partea celor răi,

26 f or Jehovah shall be thy confidence, and he will keep thy foot from being taken.

căci Domnul va fi încrederea ta. El îţi va păzi piciorul de orice capcană.

27 W ithhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it.

Nu opri o binefacere celui ce are nevoie de ea, când stă în puterea ta să faci lucrul acesta.

28 S ay not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to-morrow I will give, when thou hast it by thee.

Nu spune semenului tău, „Vino mai târziu! Îţi voi da mâine!“ când poţi să-i dai acum.

29 D evise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

Nu unelti împotriva semenului tău care trăieşte încrezător lângă tine.

30 S trive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

Nu te certa cu un om fără motiv, dacă nu ţi-a făcut nimic rău.

31 E nvy not the man of violence, and choose none of his ways.

Nu invidia pe omul violent şi nu alege nici una din căile lui,

32 F or the perverse is an abomination to Jehovah; but his secret is with the upright.

căci oamenii corupţi sunt o urâciune înaintea Domnului, dar cu cei drepţi El este prieten.

33 T he curse of Jehovah is in the house of the wicked; but he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.

Blestemul Domnului este peste casa celui rău, dar El binecuvântează locuinţa celui drept.

34 H e indeed scorneth the scorners; but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

Dacă are de-a face cu batjocoritori, El îşi bate joc de ei, dar celor smeriţi El le dă har.

35 T he wise shall inherit glory; but shame shall be the promotion of the foolish.

Cei înţelepţi vor moşteni onoarea, dar cei proşti vor avea parte de ruşine.
