1 T he righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart; and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from before the evil.

Cel drept piere şi nimănui nu-i pasă. Oamenii devotaţi sunt luaţi şi nimeni nu înţelege că cei drepţi sunt luaţi pentru a fi cruţaţi de nenorocire.

2 H e entereth into peace: they rest in their beds, that hath walked in his uprightness.

Cei ce umblă drept vor avea parte de pace şi se vor odihni în culcuşurile lor.

3 B ut draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the harlot.

«Cât despre voi, veniţi încoace, fii de vrăjitoare, odrasle din bărbat adulter şi femeie prostituată!

4 A gainst whom do ye sport yourselves? Against whom do ye make a wide mouth, draw out the tongue? Are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,

De cine credeţi că vă bateţi joc? Împotriva cui credeţi că rânjiţi şi scoateţi limba? Nu sunteţi decât nişte copii ai nelegiuirii, nişte odrasle ale minciunii,

5 i nflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clefts of the rocks?

care vă aprindeţi de poftă printre stejari şi sub orice copac verde, care vă sacrificaţi copiii în văi, printre stânci.

6 A mong the smooth of the torrent is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured out a drink-offering, thou hast offered an oblation. Shall I be comforted myself as to these things?

Idolii din pietrele netede ale văii sunt moştenirea ta; ei, da, ei sunt soarta ta. Lor le torni jertfe de băutură şi le aduci daruri de mâncare. Să fiu Eu oare îndurător la vederea acestor fapte?

7 U pon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither didst thou go up to offer sacrifice.

Ţi-ai aşezat patul pe un munte înalt şi semeţ şi acolo te-ai urcat ca să aduci jertfă.

8 B ehind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy remembrance: for apart from me, thou hast uncovered thyself, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and hast made agreement with them; thou lovedst their bed, thou sawest their nakedness.

În spatele uşii şi al tocului ei ţi-ai aşezat simbolul păgân. Uitând de Mine, ţi-ai dezvelit patul, te-ai suit în el şi l-ai făcut primitor. Ai făcut o înţelegere cu ei, le-ai iubit patul şi le-ai privit goliciunea.

9 A nd thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst multiply thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers afar off, and didst debase thyself unto Sheol.

Te-ai dus la Moleh cu untdelemn, ţi-ai înmulţit parfumurile, ţi-ai trimis ambasadori până departe, i- ai trimis chiar până în Locuinţa Morţilor.

10 T hou wast wearied by the multitude of thy ways; thou saidst not, It is of no avail. Thou didst find a quickening of thy strength; therefore thou wast not sick.

Ai obosit de atâtea hoinăreli, dar nu zici: ‘Renunţ!’ Te afli încă în putere şi de aceea nu eşti sleit.

11 A nd of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor taken it to heart? Have not I even of long time held my peace, and thou fearest me not?

De cine te-ai înspăimântat şi te-ai temut atât, încât să minţi, să nu-ţi mai aminteşti de Mine şi nici măcar să nu te mai gândeşti la Mine? Pentru că multă vreme am tăcut, de aceea nu te temi de Mine.

12 I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; and they shall not profit thee.

Voi face cunoscute însă dreptatea ta şi faptele tale, dar ele nu îţi vor fi de folos.

13 W hen thou criest, let them that are gathered by thee deliver thee! But a wind shall carry them all away, a breath shall take them; but he that putteth his trust in me shall inherit the land, and possess my holy mountain.

Când vei striga după ajutor, să te scape mulţimea ta de idoli! Pe toţi îi va risipi însă vântul şi o simplă suflare îi va spulbera, dar cel ce caută refugiu în Mine va moşteni ţara şi va stăpâni muntele Meu cel sfânt.»“ Cei ce se căiesc vor fi mângâiaţi

14 A nd it shall be said, Cast up, cast up, prepare the way, take up the stumbling-blocks out of the way of my people.

„Se va zice: «Construiţi! Construiţi! Pregătiţi un drum! Înlăturaţi orice obstacol din calea poporului Meu!»

15 F or thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, and whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy, and with him that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Căci aşa vorbeşte Cel Preaînalt şi Cel Preaînălţat, Cel Ce trăieşte veşnic şi al Cărui Nume este sfânt: «Eu locuiesc într-un loc înalt şi sfânt, dar sunt şi cu cel zdrobit şi smerit în duh, ca să înviorez duhurile celor smeriţi şi inimile celor zdrobiţi.

16 F or I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would fail before me, and the souls I have made.

Nu voi certa pe vecie şi nu voi fi pentru totdeauna mânios, pentru că atunci duhul şi sufletele pe care le-am făcut ar leşina înaintea Mea.

17 F or the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him; I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on backslidingly in the way of his heart.

M-am mâniat din cauza păcatului lăcomiei lui; l-am pedepsit şi, de mânie, Mi-am ascuns faţa, dar el a continuat, răzvrătit, să umble pe căile alese de inima lui.

18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him; and I will lead him, and will restore comforts unto him and to those of his that mourn.

Am văzut cum s-a purtat, dar îl voi vindeca, îl voi călăuzi, şi-i voi aduce mângâiere, lui şi celor ce-l jelesc,

19 I create the fruit of the lips: peace, peace to him afar off, and to him nigh, saith Jehovah; and I will heal him.

creând laudă pe buzele lor. Pace, pace celui de departe şi celui de aproape, zice Domnul. Eu îl voi vindeca!

20 B ut the wicked are like the troubled sea, which cannot rest, and whose waters cast up mire and dirt.

Dar cei răi sunt ca marea agitată, care nu se poate linişti şi ale cărei valuri aruncă numai noroi şi mâl.

21 T here is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

Pentru cei răi nu este pace, zice Dumnezeul meu.
