1 T he word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, after that Nebuzar-adan the captain of the body-guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him, being bound in chains, among all the captivity of Jerusalem and Judah, that were carried away captive to Babylon.

Iată Cuvântul care a venit la Ieremia din partea Domnului, după ce Nebuzaradan, căpetenia gărzilor, l-a eliberat din Rama. El îl găsise pe Ieremia legat în lanţuri, în mijlocul tuturor exilaţilor din Ierusalim şi Iuda, care erau duşi în captivitate în Babilon.

2 A nd the captain of the body-guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, Jehovah thy God pronounced this evil upon this place,

Atunci căpetenia gărzilor l-a luat pe Ieremia şi i-a zis: „ Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, a vestit aceste nenorociri împotriva acestui loc.

3 a nd Jehovah hath brought and done according as he said; for ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened unto his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

Acum Domnul a împlinit şi a făcut cum a spus. Toate aceste lucruri vi s-au întâmplat pentru că aţi păcătuit împotriva Domnului şi nu L-aţi ascultat.

4 A nd now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains that are upon thy hand. If it seem good in thy sight to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will keep mine eye upon thee; but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me to Babylon, forbear. See, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and right in thy sight to go, thither go.

Acum, iată, te eliberez din lanţurile pe care le ai la mâini. Vino cu mine în Babilon, dacă vrei, şi eu voi avea grijă de tine! Dar dacă nu vrei să vii, nu veni! Iată, toată ţara este înaintea ta, du-te oriunde îţi va plăcea!“

5 A nd while he had not yet given answer; Yea, go back to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the cities of Judah, and abide with him in the midst of the people; or go wheresoever it seemeth right in thy sight to go. And the captain of the body-guard gave him provisions and a present, and let him go.

Fiindcă Ieremia întârzia să răspundă, căpetenia gărzilor a adăugat: „Întoarce-te la Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahikam, fiul lui Şafan, pe care împăratul Babilonului l-a pus conducător peste cetăţile lui Iuda şi locuieşte cu el în mijlocul poporului sau du-te oriunde îţi va plăcea!“ Apoi căpetenia gărzilor i-a dat provizii şi un dar şi l-a lăsat să plece.

6 A nd Jeremiah came unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and abode with him among the people that remained in the land.

Ieremia s-a dus la Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahikam, la Miţpa, şi a locuit cu el în mijlocul poporului care rămăsese în ţară.

7 A nd all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam over the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that had not been carried away captive to Babylon.

Când toţi conducătorii oştirilor, care rămăseseră pe câmp, şi oamenii lor au auzit că împăratul Babilonului l-a pus pe Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahikam, să conducă ţara şi că i-a încredinţat lui pe toţi bărbaţii, femeile şi copiii cei mai săraci, care nu fuseseră duşi în captivitate în Babilon,

8 A nd they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah; even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

au venit împreună cu oamenii lor la Ghedalia, în Miţpa. Aceştia erau: Ismael, fiul lui Netania, Iohanan şi Ionatan, fiii lui Careah, Seraia, fiul lui Tanhumet, fiii netofatitului Efai şi Iaazania, fiul Maacatitului.

9 A nd Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahikam, fiul lui Şafan, le-a jurat lor şi oamenilor lor astfel: „Nu vă temeţi să slujiţi caldeenilor! Rămâneţi în ţară, slujiţi împăratului Babilonului şi vă va fi bine.

10 A nd as for me, behold, I dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans, who will come unto us; and ye, gather wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put in your vessels, and dwell in your cities which ye have taken.

Eu însumi locuiesc la Miţpa să vă reprezint înaintea caldeenilor, care vor veni la noi. Voi strângeţi aşadar vinul, fructele de vară şi uleiul, puneţi-le în vase şi locuiţi în cetăţile în care vă aflaţi.“

11 L ikewise all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon and in Edom, and that were in all the lands, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah, and that he had appointed over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;

Când iudeii care locuiau în Moab, în Amon, în Edom şi în toate celelalte ţări au auzit că împăratul Babilonului a lăsat o rămăşiţă în Iuda şi că l-a uns drept conducător pe Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahikam, fiul lui Şafan,

12 a nd all the Jews returned out of all the places whither they had been driven, and came to the land of Judah to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits in great abundance.

s-au întors din toate locurile unde fuseseră împrăştiaţi şi au venit în ţara lui Iuda, la Ghedalia, la Miţpa. Ei au avut parte de un mare belşug de vin şi de fructe de vară.

13 A nd Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah unto Mizpah,

Atunci când Iohanan, fiul lui Careah, şi toţi conducătorii oştirilor care rămăseseră pe câmp au venit la Ghedalia, la Miţpa,

14 a nd said unto him, Dost thou indeed know that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to smite thee to death? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

ei i-au zis: – Ştii că Baalis, regele amoniţilor, l-a trimis pe Ismael, fiul lui Netania, să te ucidă? Dar Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahikam, nu i-a crezut.

15 A nd Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will smite Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and no man shall know it: why should he take thy life, and all they of Judah who are gathered unto thee be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish?

Atunci Iohanan, fiul lui Careah, i-a zis în secret lui Ghedalia la Miţpa: – Lasă-mă să mă duc şi să-l omor pe Ismael, fiul lui Netania, şi nimeni nu va şti. De ce să te omoare el şi astfel să se împrăştie din nou iudeii care s-au strâns la tine şi să piară rămăşiţa lui Iuda?

16 B ut Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing; for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.

Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahikam, i-a răspuns lui Iohanan, fiul lui Careah: – Să nu faci aşa ceva, căci ce spui tu despre Ismael este o minciună!
