1 T hus saith Jehovah: Go and buy a potter's earthen flagon, and of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: „Du-te şi cumpără de la un olar un vas de lut, după care ia cu tine pe câţiva din sfatul bătrânilor poporului şi din bătrânii preoţilor

2 a nd go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the pottery-gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,

şi du-te în valea Ben-Hinom, care este la intrarea Porţii Ciobului. Să vesteşti acolo cuvintele pe care ţi le spun.

3 a nd say, Hear the word of Jehovah, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle;

Să spui astfel: «Ascultaţi Cuvântul Domnului, regi ai lui Iuda şi locuitori ai Ierusalimului! Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‘Iată, voi aduce peste locul acesta o nenorocire care va face să ţiuie urechile oricui va auzi vorbindu-se de ea.’»

4 b ecause they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah; and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

Căci M-au părăsit, au înstrăinat locul acesta, au adus în el jertfe altor dumnezei, pe care nu-i cunoşteau nici ei, nici strămoşii lor şi nici regii lui Iuda şi au umplut locul acesta cu sânge nevinovat.

5 a nd they have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire as burnt-offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it up into my mind:

Au zidit înălţimi lui Baal, ca să-şi ardă copiii în foc ca arderi de tot pentru Baal, lucru pe care nici nu-l poruncisem, nici nu-l menţionasem şi nici măcar nu-Mi trecuse prin minte.

6 t herefore behold, days come, saith Jehovah, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor Valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter.

De aceea, iată vin zile, zice Domnul, când locul acesta nu se va mai numi Tofet, nici valea Ben-Hinom, ci se va numi Valea Măcelului.

7 A nd I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of them that seek their life, and their carcases will I give as food to the fowl of the heavens and to the beasts of the earth.

În locul acesta voi distruge planurile lui Iuda şi ale Ierusalimului. Îi voi face să cadă ucişi de sabie înaintea duşmanilor lor, ucişi de mâna celor ce caută să le ia viaţa. Hoiturile lor le voi da hrană păsărilor cerului şi fiarelor pământului.

8 A nd I will make this city an astonishment and a hissing; every one that passeth by shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.

Voi face din cetatea aceasta o groază şi o batjocură. Toţi cei ce vor trece pe lângă ea se vor îngrozi şi vor fluiera din cauza tuturor rănilor ei.

9 A nd I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat everyone the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the straitness wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them.

Îi voi face să mănânce carnea fiilor lor şi carnea fiicelor lor. Îşi vor mânca unii altora carnea în timpul asediului şi al strâmtorării impuse asupra lor de duşmanii care caută să le ia viaţa.

10 A nd thou shalt break the flagon in the sight of the men that go with thee,

Să spargi apoi vasul sub ochii oamenilor care vor merge cu tine

11 a nd shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again. And they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place to bury.

şi să le spui că aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor: «Voi zdrobi poporul acesta şi cetatea aceasta, întocmai cum se sparge vasul unui olar şi nu mai poate fi refăcut! Vor fi îngropaţi în Tofet, din lipsă de loc pentru îngropare.

12 T hus will I do unto this place, saith Jehovah, and to the inhabitants thereof, and make this city as Topheth.

Aşa voi face locului acestuia, zice Domnul, precum şi celor ce locuiesc aici. Voi face cetăţii acesteia ca şi Tofetului.

13 A nd the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah shall be as the place of Topheth, defiled, all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of the heavens, and have poured out drink-offerings unto other gods.

Casele Ierusalimului şi casele regilor lui Iuda vor deveni necurate ca acest loc, Tofet, şi anume toate casele pe acoperişul cărora se ardea tămâie întregii oştiri a cerului şi se turnau jertfe de băutură altor dumnezei.»“

14 A nd Jeremiah came from Topheth, whither Jehovah had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of Jehovah's house, and said to all the people,

Ieremia s-a întors din Tofet, unde-l trimisese Domnul să profeţească. Apoi a stat în curtea Casei Domnului şi a zis întregului popor:

15 T hus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her cities all the evil that I have spoken against it; for they have hardened their necks, not to hear my words.

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Iată, voi aduce peste cetatea aceasta şi peste toate cetăţile din jurul ei toate nenorocirile pe care le-am vestit împotriva lor, pentru că s-au încăpăţânat să nu asculte cuvintele Mele!»“
