1 U nless Jehovah build the house, in vain do its builders labour in it; unless Jehovah keep the city, the keeper watcheth in vain:

Dacă nu zideşte Domnul o casă, degeaba trudesc cei ce o zidesc. Dacă nu străjuieşte Domnul o cetate, degeaba păzeşte străjerul.

2 I t is vain for you to rise up early, to lie down late, to eat the bread of sorrows: so to his beloved one he giveth sleep.

Degeaba vă treziţi devreme şi vă culcaţi târziu, mâncând o pâine câştigată cu trudă. Preaiubitului Său însă El îi dă cu adevărat odihnă.

3 L o, children are an inheritance from Jehovah, the fruit of the womb a reward.

Iată, fiii sunt o moştenire de la Domnul, rodul pântecelui este o răsplată.

4 A s arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of youth.

Ca săgeţile în mâna unui viteaz, aşa sunt fiii din anii tinereţii.

5 H appy is the man that hath filled his quiver with them. They shall not be ashamed when they speak with enemies in the gate.

Ferice de bărbatul care îşi umple tolba cu ei; el nu se va ruşina când va vorbi duşmanilor la poartă.
