1 A nd the whole earth had one language, and the same words.

Tot pământul vorbea o singură limbă şi folosea aceleaşi cuvinte.

2 A nd it came to pass as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and dwelt there.

Venind dinspre răsărit, oamenii au găsit o câmpie în ţara Şinar şi s-au aşezat acolo.

3 A nd they said one to another, Come on, let us make bricks, and burn thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.

Ei şi-au spus unul altuia: „Haideţi să facem cărămizi şi să le ardem bine.“ Ei foloseau cărămizi în loc de pietre şi smoală în loc de mortar.

4 A nd they said, Come on, let us build ourselves a city and a tower, the top of which to the heavens; and let us make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth.

Apoi au zis: „Haidem să ne construim o cetate şi un turn cu vârful până la cer şi să ne facem un nume, altfel vom fi împrăştiaţi pe tot pământul.“

5 A nd Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower which the children of men built.

Domnul S-a coborât să vadă cetatea şi turnul pe care oamenii le construiau.

6 A nd Jehovah said, Behold, the people is one, and have all one language; and this have they begun to do. And now will they be hindered in nothing that they meditate doing.

Domnul a zis: „Ei sunt un singur popor, toţi au aceeaşi limbă, iar acesta este doar începutul a ceea ce vor să facă; nimic din ceea ce şi-au propus să facă nu va fi imposibil pentru ei.

7 C ome, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

Haidem să Ne coborâm şi să le încurcăm acolo limba, pentru ca ei să nu-şi mai înţeleagă limba unul altuia.“

8 A nd Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth. And they left off building the city.

Astfel, Domnul i-a împrăştiat de acolo pe tot pământul, iar ei au încetat să mai construiască cetatea.

9 T herefore was its name called Babel; because Jehovah there confounded the language of the whole earth. And Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth.

De aceea cetatea a fost numită Babel, pentru că acolo Domnul a încurcat limba întregului pământ şi apoi i-a împrăştiat pe tot pământul. Urmaşii lui Sem până la Avram

10 T hese are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.

Aceasta este genealogia lui Sem. La vârsta de o sută de ani, la doi ani după potop, lui Sem i s-a născut Arpahşad.

11 A nd Shem lived after he had begotten Arphaxad five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.

După naşterea lui Arpahşad, Sem a mai trăit cinci sute de ani şi i s-au mai născut şi alţi copii: fii şi fiice.

12 A nd Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Shelah.

La vârsta de treizeci şi cinci de ani, lui Arpahşad i s-a născut Şelah.

13 A nd Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Shelah four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.

După naşterea lui Şelah, Arpahşad a mai trăit patru sute trei ani şi i s-au mai născut şi alţi copii: fii şi fiice.

14 A nd Shelah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.

La vârsta de treizeci de ani, lui Şelah i s-a născut Eber.

15 A nd Shelah lived after he had begotten Eber four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.

După naşterea lui Eber, Şelah a mai trăit patru sute trei ani şi i s-au mai născut şi alţi copii: fii şi fiice.

16 A nd Eber lived thirty-four years, and begot Peleg.

La vârsta de treizeci şi patru de ani, lui Eber i s-a născut Peleg.

17 A nd Eber lived after he had begotten Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.

După naşterea lui Peleg, Eber a mai trăit patru sute treizeci de ani şi i s-au mai născut şi alţi copii: fii şi fiice.

18 A nd Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.

La vârsta de treizeci de ani, lui Peleg i s-a născut Reu.

19 A nd Peleg lived after he had begotten Reu two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.

După naşterea lui Reu, Peleg a mai trăit două sute nouă ani şi i s-au mai născut şi alţi copii: fii şi fiice.

20 A nd Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Serug.

La vârsta de treizeci şi doi de ani, lui Reu i s-a născut Serug.

21 A nd Reu lived after he had begotten Serug two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.

După naşterea lui Serug, Reu a mai trăit două sute şapte ani şi i s-au mai născut şi alţi copii: fii şi fiice.

22 A nd Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.

La vârsta de treizeci de ani, lui Serug i s-a născut Nahor.

23 A nd Serug lived after he had begotten Nahor two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.

După naşterea lui Nahor, Serug a mai trăit două sute de ani şi i s-au mai născut şi alţi copii: fii şi fiice.

24 A nd Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah.

La vârsta de douăzeci şi nouă de ani, lui Nahor i s-a născut Terah.

25 A nd Nahor lived after he had begotten Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.

După naşterea lui Terah, Nahor a mai trăit o sută nouăsprezece ani şi i s-au mai născut şi alţi copii: fii şi fiice.

26 A nd Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

La vârsta de şaptezeci de ani, lui Terah i s-au născut Avram, Nahor şi Haran.

27 A nd these are the generations of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot.

Aceasta este genealogia lui Terah: Terah a fost tatăl lui Avram, Nahor şi Haran. Haran a fost tatăl lui Lot.

28 A nd Haran died before the face of his father Terah in the land of his nativity at Ur of the Chaldeans.

Haran a murit înaintea tatălui său, Terah, în ţara în care s-a născut, în Ur din Caldeea.

29 A nd Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, a daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.

Avram şi Nahor şi-au luat soţii. Numele soţiei lui Avram era Sarai, iar numele soţiei lui Nahor era Milca. Ea era fiica lui Haran, tatăl Milcăi şi al Iscăi.

30 A nd Sarai was barren: she had no child.

Sarai era stearpă; ea nu avea copii.

31 A nd Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth together out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan, and came as far as Haran, and dwelt there.

Terah i-a luat pe fiul său Avram şi pe nepotul său Lot, fiul lui Haran, precum şi pe Sarai, nora sa şi soţia fiului său Avram, şi au ieşit împreună din Ur, din Caldeea, ca să meargă în Canaan; dar când au ajuns în Haran, s-au aşezat acolo.

32 A nd the days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.

Terah a trăit două sute cinci ani, apoi a murit în Haran.
