1 I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

Eu sunt bărbatul care a văzut suferinţa sub nuiaua furiei Lui.

2 M e hath he led, and brought into darkness, and not into light.

El m-a condus şi m-a făcut să merg prin întuneric, nu prin lumină!

3 S urely against me hath he turned again and again his hand all the day.

Da, El Îşi întoarce mâna împotriva mea toată ziua!

4 M y flesh and my skin hath he wasted away, he hath broken my bones.

El mi-a îmbătrânit trupul şi pielea şi mi-a zdrobit oasele.

5 H e hath built against me, and encompassed with gall and toil.

M-a asediat şi m-a înconjurat cu otravă şi cu nenorocire.

6 H e hath made me to dwell in dark places as those that have been long dead.

M-a făcut să locuiesc în întunecimi asemenea celor morţi demult.

7 H e hath hedged me about that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy.

M-a înconjurat cu un zid, ca să nu pot scăpa, şi m-a pus în lanţuri grele.

8 E ven when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.

Chiar şi atunci când strig şi plâng după ajutor, El îmi respinge rugăciunea.

9 H e hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.

Drumurile mi le-a blocat cu pietre cioplite şi mi-a întortocheat cărările.

10 H e is unto me a bear lying in wait, a lion in secret places.

A fost pentru mine ca un urs care stă la pândă şi ca un leu aflat într-un loc ascuns.

11 H e hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces; he hath made me desolate.

M-a abătut de la căile mele, m-a sfâşiat şi m-a lăsat pustiit.

12 H e hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

Şi-a încordat arcul şi m-a făcut ţinta săgeţii Lui.

13 H e hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.

Mi-a străpuns inima cu săgeţi din tolba Lui.

14 I am become a derision to all my people; their song all the day.

Am ajuns de râsul tuturor celor din poporul meu. Sunt batjocorit toată ziua în cântecele lor.

15 H e hath sated me with bitterness, he hath made me drunk with wormwood.

M-a îndestulat cu ierburi amare şi m-a săturat cu pelin.

16 H e hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.

Mi-a zdrobit dinţii cu pietriş şi m-a culcat în cenuşă.

17 A nd thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I have forgotten prosperity.

Mi-a luat pacea şi am uitat ce înseamnă fericirea.

18 A nd I said, My strength is perished, and my hope in Jehovah.

Am zis: „S-a dus puterea mea de viaţă şi ceea ce nădăjduiam de la Domnul! “

19 R emember thou mine affliction and my wandering, the wormwood and the gall.

Îmi amintesc de durerea şi de rătăcirea mea, de amărăciune şi de pelin.

20 M y soul hath constantly in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

Sufletul meu îşi aduce aminte mereu de ele şi se întristează în mine.

21 — This I recall to heart, therefore have I hope.

Dar iată ce-mi vine în minte şi ce mă face să mai nădăjduiesc:

22 I t is of Jehovah's loving-kindness we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not;

„Îndurările Domnului nu s-au sfârşit, mila Lui nu este la capăt.

23 t hey are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Ele se înnoiesc în fiecare dimineaţă; mare este credincioşia Ta!“

24 J ehovah is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

Am zis sufletului meu: „ Domnul este moştenirea mea şi de aceea voi nădăjdui în El!“

25 J ehovah is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul seeketh him.

Domnul este bun cu cel ce nădăjduieşte în El, cu sufletul care-L caută.

26 I t is good that one should both wait, and that in silence, for the salvation of Jehovah.

Bine este să aştepţi în tăcere izbăvirea Domnului.

27 I t is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth:

Este bine ca omul să poarte un jug în tinereţea lui.

28 H e sitteth solitary and keepeth silence, because he hath laid it upon him;

Să stea singur şi să tacă, fiindcă Domnul l-a aşezat pe gâtul lui;

29 h e putteth his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope;

să-şi umple gura cu ţărână – s-ar putea să mai existe nădejde;

30 h e giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him; he is filled full with reproach.

să-şi dea obrazul celui ce-l loveşte şi să se sature de insulte!

31 F or the Lord will not cast off for ever;

Fiindcă Stăpânul nu respinge pentru totdeauna.

32 b ut if he have caused grief, he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving-kindnesses:

Ci, când mâhneşte pe cineva, se îndură iarăşi de el, după bunătatea Lui cea mare.

33 f or he doth not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men.

Căci El nu necăjeşte, nici nu întristează cu plăcere pe fiii oamenilor.

34 T o crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,

Când sunt călcaţi în picioare toţi prizonierii unei ţări,

35 t o turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

când dreptatea umană este îndepărtată înaintea Celui Preaînalt,

36 t o wrong a man in his cause,—will not the Lord see it?

când un om este nedreptăţit în cauza lui, nu vede, oare, Stăpânul?

37 W ho is he that saith, and there cometh to pass, what the Lord hath not commanded?

Cine poate spune ceva şi să se înfăptuiască, dacă Stăpânul nu a poruncit?

38 O ut of the mouth of the Most High doth not there proceed evil and good?

Oare nu din gura Celui Preaînalt vine şi nenorocirea, şi bunăstarea?

39 W herefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

Atunci de ce murmură omul, când este pedepsit pentru păcatele lui?

40 L et us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.

Să luăm aminte la căile noastre, să le cercetăm şi să ne întoarcem la Domnul.

41 L et us lift up our heart with hands unto God in the heavens.

Să ne înălţăm inimile şi mâinile spre Dumnezeul din ceruri şi să spunem:

42 W e have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.

„Am păcătuit şi ne-am răzvrătit, iar Tu nu ai iertat!“

43 T hou hast covered thyself with anger, and pursued us; thou hast slain, thou hast not spared.

Te-ai învăluit cu mânie şi ne-ai urmărit; ai ucis fără milă.

44 T hou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that prayer should not pass through.

Te-ai învăluit cu un nor, ca nici o rugăciune să nu ajungă la Tine.

45 T hou hast made us the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the peoples.

Ne-ai prefăcut în gunoi şi în murdărie în mijlocul popoarelor.

46 A ll our enemies have opened their mouth against us.

Toţi vrăjmaşii noştri şi-au deschis larg gura împotriva noastră.

47 F ear and the pit are come upon us, devastation and ruin.

Am avut parte de groază şi de groapă, de prăpăd şi de distrugere.

48 M ine eye runneth down with streams of water for the ruin of the daughter of my people.

Şuvoaie de lacrimi se scurg din ochii mei căci fiica poporului meu a fost distrusă.

49 M ine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,

Ochii mi se vor topi de lacrimi neîncetat şi fără oprire,

50 t ill Jehovah look down and behold from the heavens.

până când Domnul din ceruri va privi şi va lua aminte.

51 M ine eye affecteth my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.

Mi s-a întristat sufletul când le-am văzut pe toate fiicele cetăţii mele.

52 T hey that are mine enemies without cause have chased me sore like a bird.

Cei ce-mi erau vrăjmaşi fără motiv m-au vânat ca pe o pasăre.

53 T hey have cut off my life in a pit, and cast a stone upon me.

Au încercat să-mi pună capăt vieţii într-o groapă şi au aruncat cu pietre în mine.

54 W aters streamed over my head; I said, I am cut off.

Apele s-au revărsat peste capul meu şi mi-am zis: „Sunt pierdut!“

55 I called upon thy name, Jehovah, out of the lowest pit.

Dar am chemat Numele Tău, Doamne, din adâncimile gropii.

56 T hou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my sighing, at my cry.

Tu mi-ai auzit glasul: „Nu-Ţi astupa urechea la strigătele mele după ajutor!“

57 T hou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee; thou saidst, Fear not.

În ziua când Te-am chemat, Te-ai apropiat şi mi-ai răspuns: „Nu te teme!“

58 L ord, thou hast pleaded the cause of my soul, thou hast redeemed my life.

Stăpâne, Tu ai apărat cauza sufletului meu, mi-ai răscumpărat viaţa!

59 J ehovah, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.

Doamne, Tu ai văzut răul care mi s-a făcut! Judecă-mi cauza!

60 T hou hast seen all their vengeance, all their imaginations against me.

Ai văzut toată dorinţa lor de răzbunare şi planurile lor împotriva mea.

61 T hou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, all their imaginations against me;

Doamne, Tu le-ai auzit batjocurile şi toate uneltirile îndreptate împotriva mea,

62 t he lips of those that rise up against me and their meditation against me all the day.

ai auzit şoaptele potrivnicilor mei şi murmurul lor îndreptat înspre mine toată ziua.

63 B ehold thou their sitting down and their rising up: I am their song.

Priveşte! Şezând sau în picioare, ei mă batjocoresc în cântecele lor!

64 R ender unto them a recompence, O Jehovah, according to the work of their hands;

Răsplăteşte-le, Doamne, după faptele mâinilor lor!

65 g ive them obduracy of heart, thy curse unto them;

Pune un văl peste inimile lor şi fie blestemul Tău peste ei!

66 p ursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of Jehovah.

Urmăreşte-i în mânia Ta şi nimiceşte-i de sub ceruri, Doamne!
