1 T hus saith Jehovah: Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Coboară-te la palatul regelui lui Iuda şi vesteşte acolo cuvintele următoare:

2 a nd say, Hear the word of Jehovah, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people who enter in through these gates.

‘Ascultă Cuvântul Domnului, rege al lui Iuda, care stai pe tronul lui David, tu, slujitorii tăi şi poporul care intră pe aceste porţi.

3 T hus saith Jehovah: Execute judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor; and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place.

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ‘Faceţi dreptate şi judecată! Eliberaţi-l pe cel cel ce a fost jecmănit din mâinile asupritorului! Nu chinuiţi pe străin, pe orfan sau pe văduvă! Nu vărsaţi sânge nevinovat în locul acesta!

4 F or if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in through the gates of this house kings sitting in the place of David upon his throne, riding in chariots and on horses,—he, and his servants, and his people.

Căci dacă veţi împlini poruncile acestea, atunci pe porţile acestui palat vor intra regi care stau pe tronul lui David, suiţi în care şi călare pe cai, atât ei, cât şi slujitorii şi poporul lor.

5 B ut if ye will not hear these words, I have sworn by myself, saith Jehovah, that this house shall become a waste.

Dar dacă nu veţi asculta de poruncile acestea, jur pe Mine Însumi, zice Domnul, că acest palat va ajunge o ruină.’»

6 F or thus saith Jehovah concerning the house of the king of Judah: Thou art a Gilead unto me, the summit of Lebanon: verily I will make thee a wilderness, cities not inhabited.

Căci aşa vorbeşte Domnul cu privire la palatul regelui lui Iuda: «Deşi eşti pentru Mine ca Ghiladul, ca piscul Libanului, te voi face asemenea unui pustiu, asemenea unei cetăţi fără locuitori!

7 A nd I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons; and they shall cut down the choice of thy cedars, and cast into the fire.

Voi trimite împotriva ta nişte nimicitori, fiecare cu armele lui. Ei îţi vor tăia cei mai frumoşi cedri şi-i vor arunca în foc.

8 A nd many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath Jehovah done thus unto this great city?

Multe neamuri vor trece pe lângă cetatea aceasta şi se vor întreba unul pe altul: ‘De ce a făcut Domnul astfel acestei mari cetăţi?’

9 A nd they shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of Jehovah their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.

Şi li se va răspunde: ‘Pentru că a părăsit legământul cu Domnul, Dumnezeul său, s-a închinat altor dumnezei şi le-a slujit.’»“

10 W eep not for the dead, neither bemoan him; weep sore for him that goeth away, for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.

„Nu-l plângeţi pe cel mort şi nu-l jeliţi, ci plângeţi-l mai degrabă pe cel ce merge în captivitate, care nu se va mai întoarce şi nu-şi va mai vedea ţara natală. Mesaj către Iehoahaz

11 F or thus saith Jehovah concerning Shallum the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, who went forth out of this place: He shall not return thither any more;

Căci aşa vorbeşte Domnul despre Şalum, fiul lui Iosia, regele lui Iuda, care a domnit în locul tatălui său Iosia şi care a plecat din locul acesta: «Nu se va mai întoarce niciodată,

12 f or he shall die in the place whither they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.

ci va muri în locul în care l-au dus în captivitate şi nu va mai vedea ţara aceasta.»“

13 W oe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his upper chambers by injustice; that taketh his neighbour's service without wages, and giveth him not his earning;

„Vai de cel care-şi zideşte palatul cu nedreptate şi odăile de sus cu nelegiuire, care-şi pune semenul să lucreze degeaba, fără să-i dea plata.

14 t hat saith, I will build me a wide house, and spacious upper chambers; and he cutteth out for himself windows; and it is wainscoted with cedar, and painted with vermilion.

El îşi zice: «Îmi voi zidi un palat mare, care să aibă odăile de sus spaţioase!» Şi astfel el îi face ferestre largi, îl plachează cu cedru şi îl vopseşte în purpuriu.

15 S halt thou reign, because thou viest with the cedar? Did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice? Then it was well with him.

«Te face să fii rege faptul că aduni fără încetare cedru? Oare tatăl tău nu mânca şi nu bea şi el? Şi totuşi el făcea judecată şi dreptate, astfel încât toate îi mergeau bine.

16 H e judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Was not this to know me? saith Jehovah.

El judeca pricina săracului şi a celui nevoiaş şi toate îi mergeau bine. Oare nu tocmai lucrul acesta înseamnă a Mă cunoaşte? zice Domnul.

17 B ut thine eyes and thy heart are only on thine extortion, and on the blood of the innocent, to shed it, and on oppression and on violence, to do it.

Dar tu nu ai ochi şi inimă decât pentru câştigul necinstit, pentru a vărsa sânge nevinovat, pentru a asupri şi a tâlhări.»“ Mesaj către Iehoiachim

18 T herefore thus saith Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, the king of Judah: They shall not lament for him, Ah, my brother! or, Ah, sister! They shall not lament for him, Ah, lord! or Ah, his glory!

„De aceea, aşa vorbeşte Domnul despre Iehoiachim, fiul lui Iosia, regele lui Iuda: Nu-l vor jeli, zicând: «Vai, fratele meu! Vai, sora mea!» Nu-l vor jeli, zicând: «Vai, stăpâne! Vai, Maiestate!»,

19 H e shall be buried with the burial of an ass, dragged along and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

ci va fi înmormântat ca un măgar: va fi târât afară şi aruncat dincolo de porţile Ierusalimului.“

20 G o up to Lebanon, and cry; and give forth thy voice in Bashan, and cry from Abarim: for all thy lovers are destroyed.

„Suie-te pe Liban şi strigă! Înalţă-ţi glasul în Başan, strigă de pe Abarim, căci toţi iubiţii tăi sunt zdrobiţi.

21 I spoke unto thee in thy prosperity; thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy way from thy youth, that thou hearkenedst not unto my voice.

Ţi-am vorbit când îţi mergea bine, dar tu ai zis: «Nu voi asculta!» Aceasta ţi-a fost umblarea încă din tinereţe, căci nu ai ascultat de glasul Meu!

22 T he wind shall feed on all thy shepherds, and thy lovers shall go into captivity; surely, then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.

Vântul îi va împrăştia pe toţi păstorii tăi, iar iubiţii tăi vor merge în captivitate. Atunci vei fi dat de ruşine şi umilit din cauza întregii tale răutăţi.

23 T hou inhabitress of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how pitiful shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, pain as of a woman in travail!

Tu, care locuieşti în Liban, care îţi ai cuibul între cedri, o, cum vei mai geme când te vor ajunge durerile, dureri ca ale unei femei în chinurile naşterii! Mesaj către Iehoiachin

24 I live, saith Jehovah, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, were a signet upon my right hand, yet will I pluck thee thence;

Viu sunt Eu, zice Domnul, căci, chiar dacă tu, Iehoiachin, fiul lui Iehoiachim, regele lui Iuda, ai fi un inel cu sigiliu în mâna Mea cea dreaptă, şi de acolo te-aş scoate!

25 a nd I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them before whom thou art afraid, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.

Te voi da în mâinile celor ce caută să-ţi ia viaţa, în mâinile celor de care ţi-e frică, în mâinile lui Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, şi în mâinile caldeenilor.

26 A nd I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.

Te voi arunca împreună cu mama ta, care te-a născut, într-o altă ţară, unde nu v-aţi născut, şi acolo veţi muri.

27 A nd into the land whereunto they lift up their souls to return, thither shall they not return.

Nu vă veţi mai întoarce în ţara în care doriţi să vă întoarceţi.“

28 I s this man Coniah a despised broken vase? a vessel wherein is no delight? Wherefore are they thrown out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?

„Este oare acest om, Iehoiachin, un vas dispreţuit şi sfărâmat, pe care nu-l mai doreşte nimeni? De ce sunt aruncaţi oare, el şi urmaşii lui, într-o ţară pe care n-o cunosc?

29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of Jehovah!

O, ţară, ţară, ţară, ascultă Cuvântul Domnului!

30 T hus saith Jehovah: Write this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days; for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Înscrieţi-l în sul pe omul acesta ca pe unul lipsit de copii, un om care nu va prospera de-a lungul vieţii lui, căci nici unul din urmaşii lui nu va prospera; nici unul nu va şedea pe tronul lui David şi nu va mai domni în Iuda.»“
