Când vine cel rău, vine şi dispreţul şi o dată cu ruşinea, vine şi ocara.

4 T he words of a man's mouth are deep waters, the fountain of wisdom is a gushing brook.

Cuvintele gurii unui om sunt ca nişte ape adânci; izvorul înţelepciunii este ca un pârâu curgător.

5 I t is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to wrong the righteous in judgment.

Nu este bine să fii părtinitor cu cel rău, sau să nedreptăţeşti pe cel nevinovat la judecată.

6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.

Buzele prostului aduc ceartă şi gura lui cere lovituri.

7 A fool's mouth is destruction to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

Gura celui prost îi aduce ruina şi buzele lui sunt o cursă pentru sufletul lui.

8 T he words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

Cuvintele bârfitorului sunt ca nişte prăjituri; ele alunecă până în adâncul stomacului.

9 H e also who is indolent in his work is brother of the destroyer.

Cine este leneş în lucrul lui este confrate cu cel ce distruge.

10 T he name of Jehovah is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Numele Domnului este un turn tare; cel drept fuge în el şi este protejat.

11 T he rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own imagination.

Averea este o cetate întărită pentru cel bogat; şi-o închipuie ca pe un zid înalt.

12 B efore destruction the heart of man is haughty; and before honour humility.

Înainte de pieire omul se îngâmfă, dar smerenia merge înaintea gloriei.

13 H e that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.

Cine răspunde fără să fi ascultat face o prostie şi îşi atrage ruşinea.

14 T he spirit of a man sustaineth his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?

Duhul omului îl încurajează când este bolnav, dar cine poate sprijini un duh zdrobit?

15 T he heart of an intelligent getteth knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

Mintea celor cu discernământ dobândeşte cunoştinţă şi urechea celor înţelepţi caută învăţătură.

16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

Un dar deschide uşi celui ce îl oferă şi-l duce înaintea celor mari.

17 H e that is first in his own cause just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

Primul care-şi apără cauza pare că are dreptate, până vine altul şi-i pune întrebări.

18 T he lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

Aruncarea sorţului pune capăt neînţelegerilor şi decide între cei puternici.

19 A brother offended is than a strong city; and contentions are as the bars of a palace.

Un frate nedreptăţit este mai greu de câştigat decât o cetate întărită şi neînţelegerile sunt ca porţile închise ale unei cetăţi.

20 A man's belly is satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips is he satisfied.

Din rodul gurii lui omul îşi satură fiinţa şi din venitul buzelor lui se satură.

21 D eath and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Viaţa şi moartea stau în puterea limbii, iar cei ce o iubesc îi vor mânca roadele.

22 W hoso hath found a wife hath found a good thing, and hath obtained favour from Jehovah.

Cel ce-şi găseşte o soţie găseşte ce este bine şi primeşte astfel o favoare de la Domnul.

23 H e that is poor speaketh with supplications, but the rich answereth roughly.

Săracul vorbeşte implorând milă, dar bogatul răspunde cu asprime.

24 A man of friends will come to ruin but there is a friend sticketh closer than a brother.

Cine are mulţi prieteni poate ajunge la ruină, dar există un amic care ţine la tine mai mult decât un frate.
