Cuando viene el impío, viene también el menosprecio, Y con el deshonrador, la afrenta.

4 T he words of a man's mouth are deep waters, the fountain of wisdom is a gushing brook.

Aguas profundas son las palabras de la boca del hombre; Y arroyo que rebosa, la fuente de la sabiduría.

5 I t is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to wrong the righteous in judgment.

Tener respeto a la persona del impío, Para pervertir el derecho del justo, no es bueno.

6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.

Los labios del necio provocan contiendas; Y su boca llama a los azotes.

7 A fool's mouth is destruction to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

La boca del necio es quebrantamiento para sí, Y sus labios son una trampa para su alma.

8 T he words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

Las palabras del chismoso son como golosinas, Que penetran hasta el fondo de sus entrañas.

9 H e also who is indolent in his work is brother of the destroyer.

También el que es negligente en su trabajo Es hermano del hombre disipador.

10 T he name of Jehovah is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Torreón fuerte es el nombre de Jehová; A él se acogerá el justo, y estará a salvo.

11 T he rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own imagination.

Las riquezas del rico son su ciudad fortificada, Y como un muro alto en su imaginación.

12 B efore destruction the heart of man is haughty; and before honour humility.

Antes del quebrantamiento se ensoberbece el corazón del hombre, Y antes de la honra es la humildad.

13 H e that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.

Responder antes de haber escuchado, Es fatuidad y oprobio.

14 T he spirit of a man sustaineth his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?

El ánimo del hombre le sostiene en su enfermedad; Mas ¿quién sostendrá al animo angustiado?

15 T he heart of an intelligent getteth knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

El corazón del entendido adquiere sabiduría; Y el oído de los sabios busca la ciencia.

16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

La dádiva del hombre le ensancha el camino Y le conduce a la presencia de los grandes.

17 H e that is first in his own cause just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

Parece tener razón el primero que aboga por su causa; Pero viene su adversario, y le descubre.

18 T he lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

La suerte pone fin a los pleitos, Y decide entre los poderosos.

19 A brother offended is than a strong city; and contentions are as the bars of a palace.

El hermano ofendido es más tenaz que una ciudad fuerte, Y las contiendas de los hermanos son como cerrojos de alcázar.

20 A man's belly is satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips is he satisfied.

Del fruto de la boca del hombre se llenará su vientre; Se saciará del producto de sus labios.

21 D eath and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

La muerte y la vida están en poder de la lengua, Y el que la cuida comerá de sus frutos.

22 W hoso hath found a wife hath found a good thing, and hath obtained favour from Jehovah.

El que halla esposa halla el bien, Y alcanza la benevolencia de Jehová.

23 H e that is poor speaketh with supplications, but the rich answereth roughly.

El pobre habla con ruegos, Mas el rico responde durezas.

24 A man of friends will come to ruin but there is a friend sticketh closer than a brother.

El hombre que tiene amigos ha de mostrarse amigo; Y hay amigo más unido que un hermano.
