1 T he vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah concerning Edom: We have heard a report from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sent among the nations. Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.

Visión de Abdías. El Señor Jehová dice esto en cuanto a Edom: Hemos oído una noticia que viene de Jehová, y un mensajero ha sido enviado a las naciones. Poneos en pie, y levantémonos contra este pueblo en batalla.

2 B ehold, I have made thee small among the nations; thou art greatly despised.

He aquí que te he hecho pequeño entre las naciones; eres despreciado en gran manera.

3 T he pride of thy heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high;—he that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

La soberbia de tu corazón te ha engañado, tú que moras en las hendiduras de las peñas, que pones en las alturas tu morada; que dices en tu corazón: ¿Quién me derribará a tierra?

4 T hough thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith Jehovah.

Aunque hagas tu nido tan alto como el águila, y aunque lo coloques entre las estrellas, de allí te derribaré, dice Jehová.

5 I f thieves had come to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen they had had enough? If grape-gatherers had come to thee, would they not have left some gleanings?

Si ladrones vinieran a ti, o salteadores de noche (¡cómo has sido destruido!), ¿no hurtarían lo que les bastase? Si entraran a ti vendimiadores, ¿no dejarían algún rebusco?

6 H ow is Esau searched! his hidden things sought out!

¡Cómo fueron escudriñadas las cosas de Esaú, y sus tesoros escondidos!

7 A ll the men of thy confederacy have pushed thee to the border; the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, they have prevailed against thee; thy bread have laid a snare under thee. There is no understanding in him.

Todos tus aliados te hicieron retroceder hasta la frontera; los que estaban en paz contigo te engañaron y prevalecieron contra ti; los que comían tu pan pusieron lazo debajo de ti; no hay en ti discernimiento.

8 S hall I not in that day, saith Jehovah, destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?

¿No haré que perezcan en aquel día, dice Jehová, los sabios de Edom, y la prudencia del monte de Esaú?

9 A nd thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one may be cut off from the mount of Esau by slaughter.

Y tus valientes, oh Temán, serán amedrentados; de suerte que será exterminado con muerte violenta todo hombre en la montaña de Esaú.

10 B ecause of violence against thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

Por la violencia hecha a tu hermano Jacob, te cubrirá vergüenza, y serás cortado para siempre.

11 I n the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away captive his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

El día que estando tú delante, saqueaban los extranjeros sus riquezas, y extraños entraban por sus puertas, y echaban suertes sobre Jerusalén, tú también eras como uno de ellos.

12 B ut thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day of his disaster; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; nor have opened wide thy mouth in the day of distress.

Pues no debiste tú haber estado mirando en el día de tu hermano, en el día de su infortunio; ni debiste haberte alegrado de los hijos de Judá en el día de su ruina; ni debiste haber proferido palabras altaneras en el día de la angustia.

13 T hou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity, nor have looked, even thou, on their affliction in the day of their calamity, neither shouldest thou have laid on their substance in the day of their calamity;

No debiste haber entrado por la puerta de mi pueblo en el día de su quebrantamiento; no, no debiste haber mirado su mal en el día de su quebranto, ni haber echado mano a sus bienes en el día de su calamidad.

14 a nd thou shouldest not have stood on the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape, nor have delivered up those remaining of him in the day of distress.

Tampoco debiste haberte parado en las encrucijadas para matar a los que de ellos escapasen; ni debiste haber entregado a los que quedaban en el día de angustia. La exaltación de Israel

15 F or the day of Jehovah is near upon all the nations: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy recompence shall return upon thine own head.

Porque se acerca el día de Jehová sobre todas las naciones; como tú hiciste se hará contigo; tus acciones se volverán sobre tu cabeza.

16 F or as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink continually; yea, they shall drink, and shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.

De la manera que vosotros bebisteis en mi santo monte, beberán continuamente todas las naciones; beberán, y engullirán, y serán como si no hubieran sido.

17 B ut upon mount Zion shall there be deliverance, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

Mas en el monte de Sión habrá un remanente que se salve; y será santo, y la casa de Jacob recuperará sus posesiones.

18 A nd the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble; and they shall kindle in them and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau: for Jehovah hath spoken.

La casa de Jacob será el fuego, y la casa de José será la llama, y la casa de Esaú la estopa, y los quemarán y los consumirán; y no quedará ningún resto de la casa de Esaú, porque Jehová ha hablado.

19 A nd the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the lowland the Philistines; yea, they shall possess the field of Ephraim and the field of Samaria; and Benjamin Gilead;

Y los del Négueb poseerán el monte de Esaú, y los de la Sefelá a los filisteos; poseerán también los campos de Efraín, y los campos de Samaria; y Benjamín ocupará Galaad.

20 a nd the captives of this host of the children of Israel what belonged to the Canaanites, unto Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.

Y los cautivos de este ejército de los hijos de Israel poseerán la tierra de Canaán hasta Sarepta; y los cautivos de Jerusalén que están en Sefarad poseerán las ciudades del Négueb.

21 A nd saviours shall come up on mount Zion, to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be Jehovah's.

Y subirán salvadores al monte de Sión para juzgar al monte de Esaú; y el reino será de Jehová.
