1 E very one that believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God; and every one that loves him that has begotten loves also him that is begotten of him.

Todo aquel que cree que Jesús es el Cristo, es nacido de Dios; y todo aquel que ama al que engendró, ama también al que ha sido engendrado por él.

2 H ereby know we that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.

En esto conocemos que amamos a los hijos de Dios, cuando amamos a Dios, y guardamos sus mandamientos.

3 F or this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not grievous.

Pues éste es el amor de Dios, que guardemos sus mandamientos; y sus mandamientos no son gravosos.

4 F or all that has been begotten of God gets the victory over the world; and this is the victory which has gotten the victory over the world, our faith.

Porque todo lo que es nacido de Dios vence al mundo; y ésta es la victoria que ha vencido al mundo, nuestra fe.

5 W ho is he that gets the victory over the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

¿Quién es el que vence al mundo, sino el que cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios? El testimonio del Espíritu

6 T his is he that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, for the Spirit is the truth.

Éste es Jesucristo, que vino mediante agua y sangre; no mediante agua solamente, sino mediante agua y sangre. Y el Espíritu es el que da testimonio; porque el Espíritu es la verdad.

7 F or they that bear witness are three:

Porque tres son los que dan testimonio en el cielo: el Padre, el Verbo y el Espíritu Santo; y estos tres son uno.

8 t he Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and the three agree in one.

Y tres son los que dan testimonio en la tierra: el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre; y estos tres concuerdan.

9 I f we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater. For this is the witness of God he has witnessed concerning his Son.

Si recibimos el testimonio de los hombres, mayor es el testimonio de Dios; porque éste es el testimonio de Dios, que ha testificado acerca de su Hijo.

10 H e that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself; he that does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness which God has witnessed concerning his Son.

El que cree en el Hijo de Dios, tiene el testimonio en sí mismo; el que no cree a Dios, le ha hecho mentiroso, porque no ha creído en el testimonio que Dios ha dado acerca de su Hijo.

11 A nd this is the witness, that God has given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son.

Y este es el testimonio: que Dios nos ha dado vida eterna; y esta vida está en su Hijo.

12 H e that has the Son has life: he that has not the Son of God has not life.

El que tiene al Hijo, tiene la vida; el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios no tiene la vida. El conocimiento de la vida eterna

13 T hese things have I written to you that ye may know that ye have eternal life who believe on the name of the Son of God.

Estas cosas os he escrito a vosotros que creéis en el nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepáis que tenéis vida eterna, y para que sigáis creyendo en el nombre del Hijo de Dios.

14 A nd this is the boldness which we have towards him, that if we ask him anything according to his will he hears us.

Y esta es la confianza que tenemos ante él, que si pedimos alguna cosa conforme a su voluntad, él nos oye.

15 A nd if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.

Y si sabemos que él nos oye en cualquier cosa que pidamos, sabemos que tenemos las peticiones que le hayamos hecho.

16 I f any one see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life, for those that do not sin unto death. There is a sin to death: I do not say of that that he should make a request.

Si alguno ve a su hermano cometiendo un pecado que no sea para muerte, pedirá, y Dios le dará vida; esto es para los que cometen pecado que no sea para muerte. Hay pecado para muerte, por el cual yo no digo que se pida.

17 E very unrighteousness is sin; and there is a sin not to death.

Toda injusticia es pecado, y hay pecado que no es para muerte.

18 W e know that every one begotten of God does not sin, but he that has been begotten of God keeps himself, and the wicked does not touch him.

Sabemos que todo aquel que ha nacido de Dios, no continúa pecando, sino que Aquel que fue engendrado por Dios le guarda, y el maligno no le toca.

19 W e know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the wicked.

Sabemos que somos de Dios, y el mundo entero yace en poder del maligno.

20 A nd we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding that we should know him that true; and we are in him that true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Pero sabemos que el Hijo de Dios ha venido, y nos ha dado entendimiento para conocer al que es verdadero; y estamos en el verdadero, en su Hijo Jesucristo. Éste es el verdadero Dios, y la vida eterna.

21 C hildren, keep yourselves from idols.

Hijitos, guardaos de los ídolos. Amén.
