1 T he word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch the son of Nerijah, when he wrote these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, saying,

La palabra que habló el profeta Jeremías a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, cuando escribía en el libro estas palabras de boca de Jeremías, en el año cuarto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, diciendo:

2 T hus sayeth Jehovah, the God of Israel, concerning thee, Baruch:

Así dice Jehová, Dios de Israel, a ti, oh Baruc:

3 T hou didst say, Woe unto me! for Jehovah hath added grief to my sorrow; I am weary with my sighing, and I find no rest.

Tú dijiste: ¡Ay de mí ahora!, porque ha añadido Jehová tristeza a mi dolor; fatigado estoy de gemir, y no hallo descanso.

4 T hus shalt thou say unto him, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, what I have built do I overthrow, and what I have planted I pluck up, even this whole land.

Así le dirás: Así dice Jehová: He aquí que yo destruyo lo que edifiqué, y arranco lo que planté, y ello en toda la tierra.

5 A nd seekest thou great things for thyself? seek not; for behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith Jehovah; but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou shalt go.

¿Y tú buscas para ti grandezas? No las busques; porque he aquí que yo traigo mal sobre toda carne, dice Jehová; pero a ti te daré tu vida por botín en todos los lugares adonde vayas.
