1 T he word of Jehovah that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

Palabra de Jehová que vino a Joel, hijo de Petuel.

2 H ear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

Oíd esto, ancianos, y escuchad, todos los moradores de la tierra. ¿Ha acontecido algo semejante en vuestros días, o en los días de vuestros padres?

3 T ell your children of it, and your children their children, and their children another generation:

De esto contaréis a vuestros hijos, y vuestros hijos a sus hijos, y sus hijos a la otra generación.

4 t hat which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.

Lo que quedó de la oruga se lo comió la langosta, y lo que quedó de la langosta se lo comió el pulgón; y el saltón se comió lo que del pulgón había quedado.

5 A wake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine: for it is cut off from your mouth.

Despertad, borrachos, y llorad; aullad, todos los que bebéis vino, a causa del vino nuevo, porque se os ha quitado de vuestra boca.

6 F or a nation is come up upon my land, strong and without number: his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a lioness.

Porque un pueblo fuerte e innumerable subió a mi tierra; sus dientes son dientes de león, y tiene muelas de leona.

7 H e hath made my vine a desolation, and barked my fig-tree; he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away: its branches are made white.

Asoló mi viña, y descortezó mi higuera; del todo la desnudó y derribó; sus ramas quedaron blancas.

8 W ail like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

Llora tú como joven vestida de cilicio por el marido de su juventud.

9 T he oblation and the drink-offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah's ministers, mourn.

Desapareció de la casa de Jehová la ofrenda y la libación; los sacerdotes ministros de Jehová están de duelo.

10 T he field is laid waste, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

El campo está asolado, se enlutó la tierra; porque el trigo fue destruido, se agotó el mosto, se perdió el aceite.

11 B e ashamed, ye husbandmen; howl, ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley: because the harvest of the field hath perished.

Confundíos, labradores; lamentaos, viñadores, por el trigo y la cebada, porque se perdió la cosecha del campo.

12 T he vine is dried up, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm also and the apple-tree; all the trees of the field are withered, yea, joy is withered away from the children of men.

La viña está seca, y se amustió la higuera; el granado también, la palmera y el manzano, todos los árboles del campo se secaron, por lo cual se extinguió el gozo de los hijos de los hombres.

13 G ird yourselves, and lament, ye priests; howl, ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the oblation and the drink-offering are withholden from the house of your God.

Ceñíos y lamentad, sacerdotes; gemid, ministros del altar; venid, pasad la noche en sacos, ministros de mi Dios; porque la casa de vuestro Dios se ha quedado sin ofrenda y sin libación.

14 H allow a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly, gather the elders, all the inhabitants of the land to the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah.

Proclamad un ayuno, convocad a asamblea; reuníos, ancianos y todos los moradores de la tierra en la casa de Jehová, vuestro Dios, y clamad a Jehová.

15 A las for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

¡Ay de ese día!, porque cercano está el día de Jehová, y vendrá como una devastación de parte del Todopoderoso.

16 I s not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

¿No fue arrebatado el alimento de delante de nuestros ojos, la alegría y el placer de la casa de nuestro Dios?

17 T he seeds are rotten under their clods, the granaries are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

El grano se pudrió debajo de los terrones, los graneros fueron asolados, los alfolíes destruidos; porque se agotó el trigo.

18 H ow do the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are bewildered, for they have no pasture; the flocks of sheep also are in suffering.

¡Cómo mugen las bestias!, ¡cuán consternados vagan los hatos de los bueyes, porque no tienen pastos! También perecieron los rebaños de las ovejas.

19 T o thee, Jehovah, do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned up all the trees of the field.

A ti, oh Jehová, clamo; porque el fuego consumió los pastos del desierto, y la llama abrasó todos los árboles del campo.

20 T he beasts of the field also cry unto thee; for the water-courses are dried, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

Hasta las bestias del campo jadean tras de ti, porque se secaron los arroyos de las aguas, y el fuego consumió las praderas del desierto.
