1 A nd it came to pass on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and announcing the glad tidings, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came up,

Sucedió un día, cuando estaba él enseñando al pueblo en el templo, y anunciando el evangelio, que se llegaron a él los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, con los ancianos,

2 a nd spoke to him saying, Tell us by what authority thou doest these things, or who is it who has given thee this authority?

y le hablaron diciendo: Dinos: ¿con qué autoridad haces estas cosas?; ¿o quién es el que te ha dado esta autoridad?

3 A nd he answering said to them, I also will ask you thing, and tell me:

Respondiendo él, les dijo: Os haré yo también una pregunta; decidme:

4 T he baptism of John, was it of heaven or of men?

El bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, o de los hombres?

5 A nd they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we should say, Of heaven, he will say, Why have ye not believed him?

Entonces ellos razonaban entre sí, diciendo: Si decimos, del cielo, dirá: ¿Por qué, pues, no le creísteis?

6 b ut if we should say, Of men, the whole people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.

Y si decimos, de los hombres, todo el pueblo nos apedreará; porque están persuadidos de que Juan era profeta.

7 A nd they answered, they did not know whence.

Y respondieron que no sabían de dónde.

8 A nd Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

Entonces Jesús les dijo: Yo tampoco os digo con qué autoridad hago estas cosas. Los labradores malvados

9 A nd he began to speak to the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard and let it out to husbandmen, and left the country for a long time.

Comenzó luego a decir al pueblo esta parábola: Un hombre plantó una viña, la arrendó a unos labradores, y se ausentó por mucho tiempo.

10 A nd in the season he sent to the husbandmen a bondman, that they might give to him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen, having beaten him, sent away empty.

Y a su tiempo, envió un siervo a los labradores, para que le diesen del fruto de la viña; pero los labradores le golpearon, y le enviaron con las manos vacías.

11 A nd again he sent another bondman; but they, having beaten him also, and cast insult upon him, sent away empty.

Volvió a enviar otro siervo; mas ellos a éste también, después de golpearle y afrentarle, le enviaron con las manos vacías.

12 A nd again he sent a third; and they, having wounded him also, cast out.

Volvió a enviar un tercer siervo; mas ellos también a éste le hirieron y le echaron fuera.

13 A nd the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: perhaps when they see him they will respect.

Entonces el señor de la viña dijo: ¿Qué haré? Enviaré a mi hijo amado; quizá cuando le vean a él, le tendrán respeto.

14 B ut when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours.

Mas los labradores, al verle, razonaban entre sí, diciendo: Éste es el heredero; venid, matémosle, para que la heredad sea nuestra.

15 A nd having cast him forth out of the vineyard, they killed. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do to them?

Y le echaron fuera de la viña, y le mataron. ¿Qué, pues, les hará el señor de la viña?

16 H e will come and destroy those husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it they said, May it never be!

Vendrá y destruirá a estos labradores, y dará su viña a otros. Cuando ellos oyeron esto, dijeron: ¡Que no suceda tal cosa!

17 B ut he looking at them said, What then is this that is written, The stone which they that builded rejected, this has become the corner-stone?

Pero él, mirándolos fijamente, dijo: ¿Qué es, pues, esto que está escrito: La piedra que desecharon los edificadores Ha venido a ser piedra angular?

18 E very one falling on this stone shall be broken, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it shall grind him to powder.

Todo el que caiga sobre aquella piedra, será quebrantado; mas sobre quien ella caiga, le desmenuzará. La cuestión del tributo

19 A nd the chief priests and the scribes sought the same hour to lay hands on him, and they feared the people; for they knew that he had spoken this parable of them.

Procuraban los principales sacerdotes y los escribas echarle mano en aquella hora, porque comprendieron que contra ellos había dicho esta parábola; pero temieron al pueblo.

20 A nd having watched, they sent out suborned persons, pretending to be just men, that they might take hold of him in language, so that they might deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.

Y quedándose ellos al acecho, enviaron espías que se fingiesen justos, a fin de sorprenderle en alguna palabra, para entregarle al poder y autoridad del gobernador.

21 A nd they asked him saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest no person, but teachest with truth the way of God:

Y le preguntaron, diciendo: Maestro, sabemos que dices y enseñas rectamente, y que no haces acepción de personas, sino que enseñas el camino de Dios con verdad.

22 I s it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

¿Nos es lícito dar tributo a César, o no?

23 B ut perceiving their deceit he said to them, Why do ye tempt me?

Mas él, comprendiendo la astucia de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis?

24 S hew me a denarius. Whose image and superscription has it? And answering they said, Caesar's.

Mostradme una moneda. ¿De quién tiene la imagen y la inscripción? Y respondiendo, dijeron: De César.

25 A nd he said to them, Pay therefore what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God.

Entonces les dijo: Pues dad a César lo que es de César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

26 A nd they were not able to take hold of him in expressions before the people, and, wondering at his answer, they were silent.

Y no pudieron sorprenderle en palabra alguna delante del pueblo, sino que maravillados de su respuesta, callaron. La pregunta sobre la resurrección

27 A nd some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection, coming up,

Acercándose entonces algunos de los saduceos, los cuales sostienen que no hay resurrección, le preguntaron,

28 d emanded of him saying, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one's brother, who has a wife, die, and he die childless, his brother shall take the wife and raise up seed to his brother.

diciendo: Maestro, Moisés nos escribió: Si el hermano de alguno muere teniendo mujer, y no deja hijos, que su hermano la tome por esposa, y levante descendencia a su hermano.

29 T here were then seven brethren: and the first, having taken a wife, died childless;

Hubo, pues, siete hermanos; y el primero tomó esposa, y murió sin hijos.

30 a nd the second;

Y la tomó el segundo, el cual también murió sin hijos.

31 a nd the third took her: and in like manner also the seven left no children and died;

La tomó el tercero, y así todos los siete, y murieron sin dejar descendencia.

32 a nd last of all the woman also died.

Por último, murió también la mujer.

33 I n the resurrection therefore of which of them does she become wife, for the seven had her as wife?

En la resurrección, pues, ¿de cuál de ellos será mujer, ya que los siete la tuvieron por mujer?

34 A nd Jesus said to them, The sons of this world marry and are given in marriage,

Y Jesús les dijo: Los hijos de este siglo se casan, y se dan en casamiento;

35 b ut they who are counted worthy to have part in that world, and the resurrection from among dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage;

pero los que sean tenidos por dignos de alcanzar aquel siglo y la resurrección de entre los muertos, ni se casan, ni se dan en casamiento.

36 f or neither can they die any more, for they are equal to angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

Porque tampoco pueden ya morir, pues son como ángeles, y son hijos de Dios, al ser hijos de la resurrección.

37 B ut that the dead rise, even Moses shewed in the bush, when he called Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob;

Pero que los muertos resucitan, aun Moisés lo enseñó en el pasaje de la zarza, cuando llama al Señor, Dios de Abraham, Dios de Isaac y Dios de Jacob.

38 b ut he is not God of dead but of living; for all live for him.

Porque Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos, pues para él todos viven.

39 A nd some of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well spoken.

Respondiéndole algunos de los escribas, dijeron: Maestro, bien has dicho.

40 F or they did not dare any more to ask him anything.

Y ya no se atrevían a preguntarle nada. ¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?

41 A nd he said to them, How do they say that the Christ is David's son,

Y él les dijo: ¿Cómo dicen que el Cristo es hijo de David?

42 a nd David himself says in the book of Psalms, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand

Pues David mismo dice en el libro de los Salmos: Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi diestra,

43 u ntil I put thine enemies footstool of thy feet?

Hasta que ponga a tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.

44 D avid therefore calls him Lord, and how is he his son?

David, pues, le llama Señor; ¿cómo, entonces, es hijo suyo? El Señor Jesús previene contra los escribas

45 A nd, as all the people were listening, he said to his disciples,

Y oyéndole todo el pueblo, dijo a sus discípulos:

46 B eware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and who love salutations in the market-places, and first seats in the synagogues, and first places at suppers;

Guardaos de los escribas, que gustan de pasearse con ropas largas, de que les saluden respetuosamente en las plazas, y de ocupar las primeras sillas en las sinagogas, y los lugares de honor en los banquetes;

47 w ho devour the houses of widows, and as a pretext make long prayers. These shall receive a severer judgment.

que devoran las casas de las viudas, y por cubrir las apariencias hacen largas oraciones; ésos tendrán una sentencia más rigurosa.
