1 O n one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Good News, the priests and scribes came to him with the elders.

Sucedió un día, cuando estaba él enseñando al pueblo en el templo, y anunciando el evangelio, que se llegaron a él los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, con los ancianos,

2 T hey asked him, “Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?”

y le hablaron diciendo: Dinos: ¿con qué autoridad haces estas cosas?; ¿o quién es el que te ha dado esta autoridad?

3 H e answered them, “I also will ask you one question. Tell me:

Respondiendo él, les dijo: Os haré yo también una pregunta; decidme:

4 t he baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?”

El bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, o de los hombres?

5 T hey reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why didn’t you believe him?’

Entonces ellos razonaban entre sí, diciendo: Si decimos, del cielo, dirá: ¿Por qué, pues, no le creísteis?

6 B ut if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.”

Y si decimos, de los hombres, todo el pueblo nos apedreará; porque están persuadidos de que Juan era profeta.

7 T hey answered that they didn’t know where it was from.

Y respondieron que no sabían de dónde.

8 J esus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

Entonces Jesús les dijo: Yo tampoco os digo con qué autoridad hago estas cosas. Los labradores malvados

9 H e began to tell the people this parable. “A man planted a vineyard, and rented it out to some farmers, and went into another country for a long time.

Comenzó luego a decir al pueblo esta parábola: Un hombre plantó una viña, la arrendó a unos labradores, y se ausentó por mucho tiempo.

10 A t the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him, and sent him away empty.

Y a su tiempo, envió un siervo a los labradores, para que le diesen del fruto de la viña; pero los labradores le golpearon, y le enviaron con las manos vacías.

11 H e sent yet another servant, and they also beat him, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.

Volvió a enviar otro siervo; mas ellos a éste también, después de golpearle y afrentarle, le enviaron con las manos vacías.

12 H e sent yet a third, and they also wounded him, and threw him out.

Volvió a enviar un tercer siervo; mas ellos también a éste le hirieron y le echaron fuera.

13 T he lord of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that seeing him, they will respect him.’

Entonces el señor de la viña dijo: ¿Qué haré? Enviaré a mi hijo amado; quizá cuando le vean a él, le tendrán respeto.

14 “ But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’

Mas los labradores, al verle, razonaban entre sí, diciendo: Éste es el heredero; venid, matémosle, para que la heredad sea nuestra.

15 T hey threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?

Y le echaron fuera de la viña, y le mataron. ¿Qué, pues, les hará el señor de la viña?

16 H e will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.” When they heard it, they said, “May it never be!”

Vendrá y destruirá a estos labradores, y dará su viña a otros. Cuando ellos oyeron esto, dijeron: ¡Que no suceda tal cosa!

17 B ut he looked at them, and said, “Then what is this that is written, ‘The stone which the builders rejected, the same was made the chief cornerstone?’

Pero él, mirándolos fijamente, dijo: ¿Qué es, pues, esto que está escrito: La piedra que desecharon los edificadores Ha venido a ser piedra angular?

18 E veryone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush whomever it falls on to dust.”

Todo el que caiga sobre aquella piedra, será quebrantado; mas sobre quien ella caiga, le desmenuzará. La cuestión del tributo

19 T he chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.

Procuraban los principales sacerdotes y los escribas echarle mano en aquella hora, porque comprendieron que contra ellos había dicho esta parábola; pero temieron al pueblo.

20 T hey watched him, and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.

Y quedándose ellos al acecho, enviaron espías que se fingiesen justos, a fin de sorprenderle en alguna palabra, para entregarle al poder y autoridad del gobernador.

21 T hey asked him, “Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.

Y le preguntaron, diciendo: Maestro, sabemos que dices y enseñas rectamente, y que no haces acepción de personas, sino que enseñas el camino de Dios con verdad.

22 I s it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

¿Nos es lícito dar tributo a César, o no?

23 B ut he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test me?

Mas él, comprendiendo la astucia de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis?

24 S how me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” They answered, “Caesar’s.”

Mostradme una moneda. ¿De quién tiene la imagen y la inscripción? Y respondiendo, dijeron: De César.

25 H e said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

Entonces les dijo: Pues dad a César lo que es de César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

26 T hey weren’t able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer, and were silent.

Y no pudieron sorprenderle en palabra alguna delante del pueblo, sino que maravillados de su respuesta, callaron. La pregunta sobre la resurrección

27 S ome of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.

Acercándose entonces algunos de los saduceos, los cuales sostienen que no hay resurrección, le preguntaron,

28 T hey asked him, “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up children for his brother.

diciendo: Maestro, Moisés nos escribió: Si el hermano de alguno muere teniendo mujer, y no deja hijos, que su hermano la tome por esposa, y levante descendencia a su hermano.

29 T here were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.

Hubo, pues, siete hermanos; y el primero tomó esposa, y murió sin hijos.

30 T he second took her as wife, and he died childless.

Y la tomó el segundo, el cual también murió sin hijos.

31 T he third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.

La tomó el tercero, y así todos los siete, y murieron sin dejar descendencia.

32 A fterward the woman also died.

Por último, murió también la mujer.

33 T herefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife.”

En la resurrección, pues, ¿de cuál de ellos será mujer, ya que los siete la tuvieron por mujer?

34 J esus said to them, “The children of this age marry, and are given in marriage.

Y Jesús les dijo: Los hijos de este siglo se casan, y se dan en casamiento;

35 B ut those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage.

pero los que sean tenidos por dignos de alcanzar aquel siglo y la resurrección de entre los muertos, ni se casan, ni se dan en casamiento.

36 F or they can’t die any more, for they are like the angels, and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.

Porque tampoco pueden ya morir, pues son como ángeles, y son hijos de Dios, al ser hijos de la resurrección.

37 B ut that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord ‘The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’

Pero que los muertos resucitan, aun Moisés lo enseñó en el pasaje de la zarza, cuando llama al Señor, Dios de Abraham, Dios de Isaac y Dios de Jacob.

38 N ow he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him.”

Porque Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos, pues para él todos viven.

39 S ome of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you speak well.”

Respondiéndole algunos de los escribas, dijeron: Maestro, bien has dicho.

40 T hey didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.

Y ya no se atrevían a preguntarle nada. ¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?

41 H e said to them, “Why do they say that the Christ is David’s son?

Y él les dijo: ¿Cómo dicen que el Cristo es hijo de David?

42 D avid himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,

Pues David mismo dice en el libro de los Salmos: Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi diestra,

43 u ntil I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’

Hasta que ponga a tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.

44 “ David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?”

David, pues, le llama Señor; ¿cómo, entonces, es hijo suyo? El Señor Jesús previene contra los escribas

45 I n the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples,

Y oyéndole todo el pueblo, dijo a sus discípulos:

46 “ Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts;

Guardaos de los escribas, que gustan de pasearse con ropas largas, de que les saluden respetuosamente en las plazas, y de ocupar las primeras sillas en las sinagogas, y los lugares de honor en los banquetes;

47 w ho devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: these will receive greater condemnation.”

que devoran las casas de las viudas, y por cubrir las apariencias hacen largas oraciones; ésos tendrán una sentencia más rigurosa.
