1 T he men of Ephraim said to him, “Why have you treated us this way, that you didn’t call us when you went to fight with Midian?” They rebuked him sharply.

Pero los hombres de Efraín le dijeron: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho con nosotros, no llamándonos cuando ibas a la guerra contra Madián? Y le reconvinieron fuertemente.

2 H e said to them, “What have I now done in comparison with you? Isn’t the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

A los cuales él respondió: ¿Qué he hecho yo ahora comparado con vosotros? ¿No es el rebusco de Efraín mejor que la vendimia de Abiezer?

3 G od has delivered into your hand the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb! What was I able to do in comparison with you?” Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

Dios ha entregado en vuestras manos a Oreb y a Zeeb, príncipes de Madián; ¿y qué he podido yo hacer comparado con vosotros? Entonces el enojo de ellos contra él se aplacó, luego que él habló esta palabra.

4 G ideon came to the Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men who were with him, faint, yet pursuing.

Y vino Gedeón al Jordán, y pasó él y los trescientos hombres que traía consigo, cansados, mas todavía persiguiendo.

5 H e said to the men of Succoth, “Please give loaves of bread to the people who follow me; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”

Y dijo a los de Sucot: Yo os ruego que deis a la gente que me sigue algunos bocados de pan; porque están cansados, y yo persigo a Zeba y Zalmuná, reyes de Madián.

6 T he princes of Succoth said, “Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?”

Y los principales de Sucot respondieron: ¿Están ya Zeba y Zalmuná en tu mano, para que demos pan a tu ejército?

7 G ideon said, “Therefore when Yahweh has delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.”

Y Gedeón dijo: Cuando Jehová haya entregado en mi mano a Zeba y Zalmuná, yo trillaré vuestra carne con espinos y abrojos del desierto.

8 H e went up there to Penuel, and spoke to them in the same way; and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.

De allí subió a Peniel, y les dijo las mismas palabras. Y los de Peniel le respondieron como habían respondido los de Sucot.

9 H e spoke also to the men of Penuel, saying, “When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.”

Y él habló también a los de Peniel, diciendo: Cuando yo vuelva en paz, derribaré esta torre.

10 N ow Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all who were left of all the army of the children of the east; for there fell one hundred twenty thousand men who drew sword.

Y Zeba y Zalmuná estaban en Carcor, y con ellos su ejército como de quince mil hombres, todos los que habían quedado de todo el ejército de los hijos del oriente; pues habían caído ciento veinte mil hombres que sacaban espada.

11 G ideon went up by the way of those who lived in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and struck the army; for the army was secure.

Subiendo, pues, Gedeón por el camino de los que habitaban en tiendas al oriente de Noba y de Jogbehá, atacó el campamento, porque el ejército no estaba en guardia.

12 Z ebah and Zalmunna fled; and he pursued them. He took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and confused all the army.

Y huyendo Zeba y Zalmuná, él los siguió; y prendió a los dos reyes de Madián, Zeba y Zalmuná, y llenó de espanto a todo el ejército.

13 G ideon the son of Joash returned from the battle from the ascent of Heres.

Entonces Gedeón hijo de Joás volvió de la batalla antes que el sol subiese,

14 H e caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he described for him the princes of Succoth, and its elders, seventy-seven men.

y tomó a un joven de los hombres de Sucot, y le preguntó; y él le dio por escrito los nombres de los principales y de los ancianos de Sucot, setenta y siete varones.

15 H e came to the men of Succoth, and said, “See Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom you taunted me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are weary?’”

Y entrando a los hombres de Sucot, dijo: He aquí a Zeba y a Zalmuná, acerca de los cuales me zaheristeis, diciendo: ¿Están ya en tu mano Zeba y Zalmuná, para que demos nosotros pan a tus hombres cansados?

16 H e took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

Y tomó a los ancianos de la ciudad, y espinos y abrojos del desierto, y castigó con ellos a los de Sucot.

17 H e broke down the tower of Penuel, and killed the men of the city.

Asimismo derribó la torre de Peniel, y mató a los de la ciudad.

18 T hen he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, “What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?” They answered, “They were like you. Each one resembled the children of a king.”

Luego dijo a Zeba y a Zalmuná: ¿Qué aspecto tenían aquellos hombres que matasteis en Tabor? Y ellos respondieron: Como tú, así eran ellos; cada uno parecía hijo de rey.

19 H e said, “They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As Yahweh lives, if you had saved them alive, I would not kill you.”

Y él dijo: Mis hermanos eran, hijos de mi madre. ¡Vive Jehová, que si les hubierais conservado la vida, yo no os mataría!

20 H e said to Jether his firstborn, “Get up, and kill them!” But the youth didn’t draw his sword; for he was afraid, because he was yet a youth.

Y dijo a Jéter su primogénito: Levántate, y mátalos. Pero el joven no desenvainó su espada, porque tenía temor, pues era aún muchacho.

21 T hen Zebah and Zalmunna said, “Rise and fall on us; for as the man is, so is his strength.” Gideon arose, and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on their camels’ necks.

Entonces dijeron Zeba y Zalmuná: Levántate tú, y mátanos; porque como es el varón, tal es su valentía. Y Gedeón se levantó, y mató a Zeba y a Zalmuná; y tomó los adornos de lunetas que sus camellos traían al cuello. Gedeón. Fin de su vida

22 T hen the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, both you, and your son, and your son’s son also; for you have saved us out of the hand of Midian.”

Y los israelitas dijeron a Gedeón: Sé nuestro señor, tú, y tu hijo, y tu nieto; pues que nos has librado de mano de Madián.

23 G ideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you. Yahweh shall rule over you.”

Mas Gedeón respondió: No seré señor sobre vosotros, ni mi hijo os señoreará: Jehová señoreará sobre vosotros.

24 G ideon said to them, “I do have a request, that you would each give me the earrings of his plunder.” (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

Y les dijo Gedeón: Quiero haceros una petición; que cada uno me dé los zarcillos de su botín (pues traían zarcillos de oro, porque eran ismaelitas).

25 T hey answered, “We will willingly give them.” They spread a garment, and every man threw the earrings of his plunder into it.

Ellos respondieron: De buena gana te los daremos. Y tendiendo un manto, echó allí cada uno los zarcillos de su botín.

26 T he weight of the golden earrings that he requested was one thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold, besides the crescents, and the pendants, and the purple clothing that was on the kings of Midian, and besides the chains that were about their camels’ necks.

Y fue el peso de los zarcillos de oro que él pidió, mil setecientos ciclos de oro, sin las planchas y joyeles y vestidos de púrpura que traían los reyes de Madián, y sin los collares que traían sus camellos al cuello.

27 G ideon made an ephod out of it, and put it in Ophrah, his city. Then all Israel played the prostitute with it there; and it became a snare to Gideon, and to his house.

Y Gedeón hizo de ellos un efod, el cual hizo guardar en su ciudad de Ofrá; y todo Israel se prostituyó tras de ese efod en aquel lugar; y fue tropezadero a Gedeón y a su casa.

28 S o Midian was subdued before the children of Israel, and they lifted up their heads no more. The land had rest forty years in the days of Gideon.

Así fue subyugado Madián delante de los hijos de Israel, y nunca más volvió a levantar cabeza. Y reposó la tierra cuarenta años en los días de Gedeón.

29 J erubbaal the son of Joash went and lived in his own house.

Luego Jerobaal hijo de Joás fue y habitó en su casa.

30 G ideon had seventy sons conceived from his body, for he had many wives.

Y tuvo Gedeón setenta hijos que constituyeron su descendencia, porque tuvo muchas mujeres.

31 H is concubine who was in Shechem also bore him a son, and he named him Abimelech.

También su concubina que estaba en Siquem le dio un hijo, y le puso por nombre Abimelec.

32 G ideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the tomb of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

Y murió Gedeón hijo de Joás en buena vejez, y fue sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre Joás, en Ofrá de los abiezeritas.

33 A s soon as Gideon was dead, the children of Israel turned again, and played the prostitute following the Baals, and made Baal Berith their god.

Pero aconteció que cuando murió Gedeón, los hijos de Israel volvieron a prostituirse yendo tras los baales, y escogieron por dios a Baal-berit.

34 T he children of Israel didn’t remember Yahweh their God, who had delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side;

Y no se acordaron los hijos de Israel de Jehová su Dios, que los había librado de todos sus enemigos en derredor;

35 n either did they show kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shown to Israel.

ni se mostraron agradecidos con la casa de Jerobaal, el cual es Gedeón, conforme a todo el bien que él había hecho a Israel.
