1 T he righteous perish, and no one lays it to heart. Merciful men are taken away, and no one considers that the righteous is taken away from the evil.

Perece el justo, y no hay quien piense en ello; y los piadosos son arrebatados, y no hay quien entienda que de delante de la aflicción es recogido el justo.

2 H e enters into peace. They rest in their beds, each one who walks in his uprightness.

Entra en la paz; descansan en sus lechos todos los que andan rectamente.

3 “ But draw near here, you sons of a sorceress, you offspring of adulterers and prostitutes.

Mas vosotros llegaos acá, hijos de la hechicera, linaje del adúltero y de la fornicaria.

4 W hom do you mock? Against whom do you make a wide mouth, and stick out your tongue? Aren’t you children of disobedience, and offspring of falsehood,

¿De quién os estáis burlando? ¿Contra quién ensancháis la boca, y sacáis la lengua? ¿No sois vosotros hijos de pecado, generación mentirosa,

5 y ou who inflame yourselves among the oaks, under every green tree; who kill the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?

que os enfervorizáis con los ídolos, debajo de todo árbol frondoso, que sacrificáis los hijos en los valles, debajo de los peñascos?

6 A mong the smooth stones of the valley is your portion; they, they are your lot. You have even poured a drink offering to them. You have offered an offering. Shall I be appeased for these things?

En las piedras lisas del valle está tu parte; ellas, ellas son tu suerte; y a ellas derramaste libación, y ofreciste presente. ¿Acaso me voy a calmar con estas cosas?

7 O n a high and lofty mountain you have set your bed. You also went up there to offer sacrifice.

Sobre monte alto y empinado pusiste tu cama; allí también subiste a ofrecer sacrificio.

8 Y ou have set up your memorial behind the doors and the posts; for you have exposed yourself to someone besides me, and have gone up; you have enlarged your bed, and made you a covenant with them. You loved what you saw on their bed.

Y tras la puerta y el umbral pusiste tu emblema; porque a otro, y no a mí, te descubriste, y subiste, y ensanchaste tu cama, e hiciste con ellos pacto; amaste su cama dondequiera que veías el gesto de su mano.

9 Y ou went to the king with oil, and increased your perfumes, and sent your ambassadors far off, and degraded yourself even to Sheol.

Y fuiste al rey con ungüento, y multiplicaste tus perfumes, y enviaste tus embajadores lejos, y los hiciste bajar hasta la profundidad del Seol.

10 Y ou were wearied with the length of your ways; yet you didn’t say, ‘It is in vain.’ You found a reviving of your strength; therefore you weren’t faint.

Te cansaste de tanto caminar, pero no dijiste: Me rindo; hallaste nuevo vigor en tu mano; por tanto, no te desalentaste.

11 “ Whom have you dreaded and feared, so that you lie, and have not remembered me, nor laid it to your heart? Haven’t I held my peace for a long time, and you don’t fear me?

¿De quién te asustaste y temiste, que has faltado a la fe, y no te has acordado de mí, ni te vino al pensamiento? ¿No es porque he guardado silencio desde tiempos antiguos, por lo que nunca me has temido?

12 I will declare your righteousness; and as for your works, they will not benefit you.

Yo voy a denunciar tu justicia y tus obras, que no te aprovecharán.

13 W hen you cry, let those whom you have gathered deliver you; but the wind will take them. a breath will carry them all away: but he who takes refuge in me will possess the land, and will inherit my holy mountain.”

Cuando clames, que te libren todos tus ídolos; pero a todos ellos se los llevará el viento, un soplo los arrebatará; mas el que en mí confía poseerá la tierra y heredará mi santo monte.

14 H e will say, “Build up, build up, prepare the way! Remove the stumbling-block out of the way of my people.”

Entonces se dirá: Allanad, allanad; barred el camino, quitad los tropiezos del camino de mi pueblo.

15 F or thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Porque así dice el Alto y Sublime, el que habita la eternidad, y cuyo nombre es el Santo: Yo habito en la altura y la santidad, y con el de espíritu contrito y humilde, para reavivar el espíritu de los humildes, y para vivificar el corazón de los quebrantados.

16 F or I will not contend forever, neither will I be always angry; for the spirit would faint before me, and the souls whom I have made.

Porque no contenderé para siempre, ni para siempre me enojaré; pues desmayaría ante mí el espíritu, y las almas que yo he creado.

17 I was angry because of the iniquity of his covetousness, and struck him; I hid myself and was angry; and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.

Por la iniquidad de su codicia me enojé, y le herí, escondí mi rostro y me indigné; y él siguió rebelde por el camino de su corazón.

18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts to him and to his mourners.

He visto sus caminos; pero le sanaré, y le guiaré, y le daré consuelo a él y a sus enlutados;

19 I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace, to him who is far off and to him who is near,” says Yahweh; “and I will heal them.”

produciré fruto de labios: Paz, paz al que está lejos y al cercano, dijo Jehová; y lo sanaré.

20 B ut the wicked are like the troubled sea; for it can’t rest, and its waters cast up mire and mud.

Pero los impíos son como el mar en tempestad, que no puede estarse quieto, y sus aguas arrojan cieno y lodo.

21 “ There is no peace”, says my God, “for the wicked.”

No hay paz, dice mi Dios, para los malvados.
