1 Y ahweh’s word came to me again, saying,

Vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

2 W hat do you mean, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?

¿Qué queréis decir vosotros, los que usáis este refrán sobre la tierra de Israel, que dice: Los padres comieron las uvas agrias, y los dientes de los hijos tienen la dentera?

3 A s I live, says the Lord Yahweh, you shall not use this proverb any more in Israel.

Vivo yo, dice el Señor Jehová, que nunca más tendréis ocasión de usar este refrán en Israel.

4 B ehold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins, he shall die.

He aquí que todas las almas son mías; como el alma del padre, así el alma del hijo es mía; el alma que peque, ésa morirá.

5 B ut if a man is just, and does that which is lawful and right,

Pero el hombre que sea justo, y obre según el derecho y la justicia;

6 a nd has not eaten on the mountains, neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither has defiled his neighbor’s wife, neither has come near to a woman in her impurity,

que no coma sobre los montes, ni alce sus ojos a los ídolos de la casa de Israel, ni viole la mujer de su prójimo, ni se llegue a una mujer menstruosa,

7 a nd has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

ni oprima a nadie; que devuelva al deudor su prenda, que no cometa robo, y que dé de su pan al hambriento y cubra al desnudo con vestido,

8 h e who has not lent on interest, neither has taken any increase, who has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,

que no preste a interés ni exija con usura; que retraiga su mano de la maldad, y haga justicia verdadera entre hombre y hombre,

9 h as walked in my statutes, and has kept my ordinances, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, says the Lord Yahweh.

que camine en mis ordenanzas, y guarde mis decretos para obrar rectamente, éste es justo; de seguro vivirá, dice el Señor Jehová.

10 I f he fathers a son who is a robber who sheds blood, and who does any one of these things,

Mas si engendra un hijo ladrón, derramador de sangre, o que haga alguna cosa de éstas,

11 o r who does not do any of those things, but even has eaten on the mountains, and defiled his neighbor’s wife,

que él mismo no había hecho, un hijo que coma sobre los montes, o viole la mujer de su prójimo,

12 h as wronged the poor and needy, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,

que oprima al pobre y menesteroso, cometa robos, no devuelva la prenda, o alce sus ojos a los ídolos o haga abominación,

13 h as lent on interest, and has taken increase; shall he then live? he shall not live: he has done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be on him.

preste a interés y exija con usura; ¿vivirá éste? No vivirá. Todas estas abominaciones hizo; de cierto morirá, su sangre será sobre él.

14 N ow, behold, if he fathers a son, who sees all his father’s sins, which he has done, and fears, and does not such like;

Pero si éste engendra un hijo, el cual ve todos los pecados que su padre hizo, y, reflexionando, no le imita,

15 w ho has not eaten on the mountains, neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, has not defiled his neighbor’s wife,

no come sobre los montes, ni alza sus ojos a los ídolos de la casa de Israel; no viola la mujer de su prójimo,

16 n either has wronged any, has not taken anything to pledge, neither has taken by robbery, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

ni oprime a nadie, no retiene la prenda, ni comete robos; da de su pan al hambriento, y cubre con vestido al desnudo;

17 w ho has withdrawn his hand from the poor, who has not received interest nor increase, has executed my ordinances, has walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

aparta su mano de oprimir al pobre, no recibe interés ni usura; guarda mis ordenanzas y anda en mis estatutos; éste no morirá por la maldad de su padre; de cierto vivirá.

18 A s for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he shall die in his iniquity.

En cuanto a su padre, por cuanto hizo agravio, despojó violentamente al hermano, e hizo en medio de su pueblo lo que no es bueno, he aquí que él morirá por su maldad.

19 Y et you say, Why doesn’t the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son has done that which is lawful and right, and has kept all my statutes, and has done them, he shall surely live.

Y vosotros decís: ¿Por qué el hijo no llevará el pecado de su padre? Puesto que el hijo ha obrado según el derecho y la justicia, y ha guardado todos mis estatutos y los ha cumplido, de cierto vivirá.

20 T he soul who sins, he shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on him.

El alma que peque, ésa morirá; el hijo no llevará el pecado del padre, ni el padre llevará el pecado del hijo; la justicia del justo será sobre él, y la impiedad del impío será sobre él. El camino de Dios es justo

21 B ut if the wicked turn from all his sins that he has committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

Mas si el impío se aparta de todos sus pecados que hizo, y guarda todos mis estatutos y obra según el derecho y la justicia, de cierto vivirá; no morirá.

22 N one of his transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him: in his righteousness that he has done he shall live.

Ninguna de las transgresiones que cometió será recordada contra él; vivirá por la justicia que ha practicado.

23 H ave I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? says the Lord Yahweh; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?

¿Acaso me complazco yo en la muerte del impío?, dice el Señor Jehová. ¿No me complazco más bien en que se aparte de sus caminos y viva?

24 B ut when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered: in his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them shall he die.

Mas si el justo se aparta de su justicia y comete maldad, y hace conforme a todas las abominaciones que hace el impío, ¿vivirá él? Ninguna de las justicias que hizo le serán tenidas en cuenta; por su transgresión con que prevaricó, y por el pecado que cometió, por ello morirá.

25 Y et you say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, house of Israel: Is my way not equal? Aren’t your ways unequal?

Y vosotros decís: El camino del Señor no es recto. Oíd ahora, casa de Israel: ¿Es mi camino el que no es recto? ¿No son vuestros caminos los que son torcidos?

26 W hen the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies therein; in his iniquity that he has done shall he die.

Si el justo se aparta de su justicia, y comete iniquidad, él morirá por ello; por la iniquidad que hizo, morirá.

27 A gain, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

Y si el malvado se aparta de la maldad que cometió, y obra según el derecho y la justicia, hará vivir su alma.

28 B ecause he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

Porque ha abierto los ojos y se ha apartado de todas las transgresiones que había cometido, de cierto vivirá; no morirá.

29 Y et the house of Israel says, “The way of the Lord is not fair.” House of Israel, aren’t my ways fair? Aren’t your ways unfair?

Y, sin embargo, la casa de Israel dice: No es recto el camino del Señor. ¿Que no son rectos mis caminos, casa de Israel? Ciertamente, ¿no son vuestros caminos los que no son rectos?

30 T herefore I will judge you, house of Israel, everyone according to his ways, says the Lord Yahweh. Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

Por tanto, yo os juzgaré a cada uno según sus caminos, oh casa de Israel, dice el Señor Jehová. Convertíos, y volveos de todas vuestras transgresiones, y no os será la iniquidad causa de ruina.

31 C ast away from you all your transgressions, in which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, house of Israel?

Arrojad lejos de vosotros todas vuestras transgresiones con que habéis pecado, y haceos un corazón nuevo y un espíritu nuevo. ¿Por qué habéis de querer morir, casa de Israel?

32 F or I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies, says the Lord Yahweh: therefore turn yourselves, and live.

Pues yo no me complazco en la muerte del que muere, dice Jehová el Señor; convertíos, pues, y vivid.
