1 W hat shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

¿Qué, pues, diremos? ¿Permanezcamos en el pecado para que la gracia abunde?

2 M ay it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?

¡En ninguna manera! Los que hemos muerto al pecado, ¿cómo viviremos aún en él?

3 O r don’t you know that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

¿O ignoráis que todos los que hemos sido bautizados en Cristo Jesús, hemos sido bautizados en su muerte?

4 W e were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.

Fuimos, pues, sepultados juntamente con él para muerte por medio del bautismo, a fin de que como Cristo resucitó de los muertos por la gloria del Padre, así también nosotros andemos en novedad de vida.

5 F or if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection;

Porque si fuimos plantados juntamente con él en la semejanza de su muerte, así también lo seremos en la de su resurrección;

6 k nowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin.

conocedores de esto, que nuestro viejo hombre fue crucificado juntamente con él, para que el cuerpo del pecado sea reducido a la impotencia, a fin de que no sirvamos más al pecado.

7 F or he who has died has been freed from sin.

Porque el que ha muerto, ha sido justificado del pecado.

8 B ut if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him;

Y si hemos muerto con Cristo, creemos que también viviremos con él;

9 k nowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no more has dominion over him!

sabiendo que Cristo, habiendo resucitado de los muertos, ya no muere; la muerte ya no se enseñorea más de él.

10 F or the death that he died, he died to sin one time; but the life that he lives, he lives to God.

Porque en cuanto a lo que murió, al pecado murió una vez por todas; mas en cuanto a lo que vive, para Dios vive.

11 T hus consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Así también vosotros consideraos muertos al pecado, pero vivos para Dios en Cristo Jesús, Señor nuestro.

12 T herefore don’t let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

No reine, pues, el pecado en vuestro cuerpo mortal, de modo que lo obedezcáis en sus concupiscencias;

13 A lso, do not present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

ni tampoco presentéis vuestros miembros al pecado como instrumentos de iniquidad, sino presentaos vosotros mismos a Dios como vivos de entre los muertos, y vuestros miembros a Dios como instrumentos de justicia.

14 F or sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace.

Porque el pecado no se enseñoreará de vosotros; pues no estáis bajo la ley, sino bajo la gracia. Siervos de la justicia, y no del pecado

15 W hat then? Shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? May it never be!

¿Qué, pues? ¿Pecaremos, porque no estamos bajo la ley, sino bajo la gracia? ¡En ninguna manera!

16 D on’t you know that when you present yourselves as servants and obey someone, you are the servants of whomever you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?

¿No sabéis que si os sometéis a alguien como esclavos para obedecerle, sois esclavos de aquel a quien obedecéis, ya sea del pecado para muerte, ya sea de la obediencia para justicia?

17 B ut thanks be to God, that, whereas you were bondservants of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were delivered.

Pero gracias a Dios que, aunque erais esclavos del pecado, habéis obedecido de corazón a aquella forma de doctrina a la cual fuisteis entregados;

18 B eing made free from sin, you became bondservants of righteousness.

y libertados del pecado, vinisteis a ser siervos de la justicia.

19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh, for as you presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to wickedness upon wickedness, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness for sanctification.

Hablo en términos humanos, por vuestra humana debilidad; que así como para iniquidad presentasteis vuestros miembros como siervos a la inmundicia y a la iniquidad, así ahora para santificación presentad vuestros miembros como siervos a la justicia.

20 F or when you were servants of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.

Porque cuando erais esclavos del pecado, erais libres respecto a la justicia.

21 W hat fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

¿Qué fruto teníais entonces en aquellas cosas de las cuales ahora os avergonzáis? Porque el fin de ellas es muerte.

22 B ut now, being made free from sin, and having become servants of God, you have your fruit of sanctification, and the result of eternal life.

Mas ahora que habéis sido libertados del pecado y hechos siervos de Dios, tenéis por vuestro fruto la santificación, y como fin, la vida eterna.

23 F or the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Porque la paga del pecado es muerte, mas la dádiva de Dios es vida eterna en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro.
