1 M y son, pay attention to my wisdom. Turn your ear to my understanding:

Hijo mío, está atento a mi sabiduría, Y a mi inteligencia inclina tu oído,

2 t hat you may maintain discretion, that your lips may preserve knowledge.

Para que guardes la reflexión, Y tus labios conserven la ciencia.

3 F or the lips of an adulteress drip honey. Her mouth is smoother than oil,

Porque los labios de la mujer extraña destilan miel, Y su paladar es más blando que el aceite;

4 B ut in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, and as sharp as a two-edged sword.

Mas su fin es amargo como el ajenjo, Aguzado como espada de dos filos.

5 H er feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to Sheol.

Sus pies descienden a la muerte; Sus pasos conducen al Seol.

6 S he gives no thought to the way of life. Her ways are crooked, and she doesn’t know it.

Sus caminos son desviados, sin que se percate de ello, Por no considerar el camino de vida.

7 N ow therefore, my sons, listen to me. Don’t depart from the words of my mouth.

Ahora pues, hijos, oídme, Y no os apartéis de las razones de mi boca.

8 R emove your way far from her. Don’t come near the door of her house,

Aleja de ella tu camino, Y no te acerques a la puerta de su casa;

9 l est you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel one;

Para que no des a los extraños tu honor, Y tus años al cruel;

10 l est strangers feast on your wealth, and your labors enrich another man’s house.

No sea que extraños se sacien de tus bienes, Y el fruto de tus trabajos vaya a parar a casa del extraño;

11 Y ou will groan at your latter end, when your flesh and your body are consumed,

Y gimas al final, Cuando tu carne y tu cuerpo se hayan consumido,

12 a nd say, “How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

Y digas: ¡Cómo desoí el consejo, Y mi corazón menospreció la reprensión;

13 n either have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor turned my ear to those who instructed me!

No escuché la voz de los que me instruían, Y a los que me enseñaban no presté atención!

14 I have come to the brink of utter ruin, among the gathered assembly.”

Por poco llego al colmo de la desgracia, En medio de la sociedad y de la congregación.

15 D rink water out of your own cistern, running water out of your own well.

Bebe el agua de tu misma cisterna, Y los raudales de tu propio pozo.

16 S hould your springs overflow in the streets, streams of water in the public squares?

¿Se derramarán tus fuentes por las calles, Y tus corrientes de aguas por las plazas?

17 L et them be for yourself alone, not for strangers with you.

Sean para ti solo, Y no para los extraños contigo.

18 L et your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.

Sea bendito tu manantial, Y gózate en la mujer de tu juventud,

19 A loving doe and a graceful deer— let her breasts satisfy you at all times. Be captivated always with her love.

Como cierva amada y graciosa gacela. Sus caricias te satisfagan en todo tiempo, Y en su amor recréate siempre.

20 F or why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another?

¿Y por qué, hijo mío, andarás ciego con la mujer ajena, Y abrazarás el seno de la extraña?

21 F or the ways of man are before Yahweh’s eyes. He examines all his paths.

Porque los caminos del hombre están ante los ojos de Jehová, Y él considera todas sus veredas.

22 T he evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly.

Prenderán al impío sus propias iniquidades, Y será retenido con las cuerdas de su pecado.

23 H e will die for lack of instruction. In the greatness of his folly, he will go astray.

Él morirá por falta de corrección, Y errará por lo inmenso de su locura.
