1 T hen Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind,

Entonces respondió Jehová a Job desde un torbellino, y dijo:

2 “ Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

¿Quién es ése que oscurece el consejo Con palabras sin sabiduría?

3 B race yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me!

Ahora ciñe, como un luchador, tus lomos; Yo te preguntaré, y tú me contestarás.

4 “ Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding.

¿Dónde estabas tú cuando yo fundaba la tierra? Házmelo saber, si tienes inteligencia.

5 W ho determined its measures, if you know? Or who stretched the line on it?

¿Quién ordenó sus medidas, si lo sabes? ¿O quién extendió sobre ella cordel?

6 W hereupon were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone,

¿Sobre qué están fundadas sus basas? ¿O quién puso su piedra angular,

7 w hen the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Cuando alababan todas las estrellas del alba, Y se regocijaban todos los hijos de Dios?

8 “ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke out of the womb,

¿Quién encerró con puertas el mar, Cuando se derramaba saliéndose de su seno,

9 w hen I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness,

Cuando puse yo nubes por vestidura suya, Y por pañales la oscuridad,

10 m arked out for it my bound, set bars and doors,

Y tracé para él frontera, Le puse puertas y cerrojo,

11 a nd said, ‘Here you may come, but no further. Here your proud waves shall be stayed?’

Y dije: Hasta aquí llegarás, y no pasarás adelante, Y ahí se romperá el orgullo de tus olas?

12 “ Have you commanded the morning in your days, and caused the dawn to know its place;

¿Has mandado tú alguna vez en tu vida a la mañana? ¿Has señalado a la aurora su lugar,

13 t hat it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it?

Para que coja a la tierra por sus bordes, Y sean sacudidos de ella los impíos?

14 I t is changed as clay under the seal, and presented as a garment.

Ella muda luego de aspecto como arcilla bajo el sello, Y viene a estar todo como una vestidura;

15 F rom the wicked, their light is withheld. The high arm is broken.

Mas la luz de los impíos es quitada de ellos, Y el brazo enaltecido es quebrantado.

16 “ Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the recesses of the deep?

¿Has entrado tú hasta las fuentes del mar, Y has andado escudriñando el abismo?

17 H ave the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?

¿Te han sido descubiertas las puertas de la muerte, Y has visto las puertas de la sombra de muerte?

18 H ave you comprehended the earth in its width? Declare, if you know it all.

¿Has calculado las anchuras de la tierra? Declara si sabes todo esto.

19 “ What is the way to the dwelling of light? As for darkness, where is its place,

¿Por dónde se va a la morada de la luz, Y dónde está el lugar de las tinieblas,

20 t hat you should take it to its bound, that you should discern the paths to its house?

Para que las lleves a sus límites, Y les muestres las sendas de su casa?

21 S urely you know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!

Lo sabrás, sin duda, porque ya habías nacido, Y es muy grande el número de tus días.

22 H ave you entered the treasuries of the snow, or have you seen the treasures of the hail,

¿Has entrado tú en los depósitos de la nieve, O has visto las reservas del granizo,

23 w hich I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

Que tengo guardado para el tiempo de angustia, Para el día de la guerra y de la batalla?

24 B y what way is the lightning distributed, or the east wind scattered on the earth?

¿Por qué camino se reparte la luz, Y se esparce el viento solano sobre la tierra?

25 W ho has cut a channel for the flood water, or the path for the thunderstorm;

¿Quién abre un canal al aguacero, Y camino a los relámpagos y truenos,

26 T o cause it to rain on a land where no man is; on the wilderness, in which there is no man;

Haciendo llover sobre la tierra deshabitada, Sobre el desierto, donde no habita el hombre,

27 t o satisfy the waste and desolate ground, to cause the tender grass to grow?

Para saciar la tierra desierta e inculta, Y para hacer brotar la tierna hierba?

28 D oes the rain have a father? Or who fathers the drops of dew?

¿Tiene padre la lluvia? ¿O quién engendra las gotas del rocío?

29 O ut of whose womb came the ice? The gray frost of the sky, who has given birth to it?

¿De qué seno sale el hielo? Y la escarcha del cielo, ¿quién la da a luz,

30 T he waters become hard like stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen.

Cuando las aguas se endurecen a manera de piedra, Y se congela la superficie del mar?

31 “ Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?

¿Podrás tú atar los lazos de las Pléyades, O desatar las ligaduras de Orión?

32 C an you lead the constellations out in their season? Or can you guide the Bear with her cubs?

¿Sacarás tú a su tiempo las constelaciones del Zodíaco, O guiarás a la Osa Mayor con sus hijos?

33 D o you know the laws of the heavens? Can you establish its dominion over the earth?

¿Conoces las leyes de los cielos? ¿Dispondrás tú sus poderes sobre la tierra?

34 “ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, That abundance of waters may cover you?

¿Alzarás tú a las nubes tu voz, Para que te cubra muchedumbre de aguas?

35 C an you send out lightnings, that they may go? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are?’

¿Enviarás tú los relámpagos, para que ellos vayan? ¿Y te dirán ellos: Henos aquí?

36 W ho has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?

¿Quién puso sabiduría en la nube? ¿O quién dio al meteoro inteligencia?

37 W ho can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of the sky,

¿Quién puso por cuenta las nubes con sabiduría? Y los odres de los cielos, ¿quién los hace vaciar,

38 w hen the dust runs into a mass, and the clods of earth stick together?

Cuando el polvo se ha convertido en dureza, Y los terrones se han pegado unos con otros?

39 “ Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,

¿Cazarás tú la presa para el león? ¿Saciarás el hambre de los leoncillos,

40 w hen they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket?

Cuando están echados en sus guaridas, O se agazapan en la maleza para acechar?

41 W ho provides for the raven his prey, when his young ones cry to God, and wander for lack of food?

¿Quién prepara al cuervo su alimento, Cuando sus polluelos claman a Dios, Y andan alocados por falta de comida?
