1 “ Be careful that you don’t do your charitable giving before men, to be seen by them, or else you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

Guardaos de hacer vuestra justicia delante de los hombres para ser vistos por ellos; de otra manera, no tendréis recompensa ante vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.

2 T herefore when you do merciful deeds, don’t sound a trumpet before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward.

Cuando, pues, des limosna, no hagas tocar trompeta delante de ti, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles, para ser alabados por los hombres; de cierto os digo que ya están recibiendo su recompensa.

3 B ut when you do merciful deeds, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does,

Pero cuando tú estés dando limosna, que no sepa tu mano izquierda lo que hace tu derecha,

4 s o that your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

para que tu limosna quede en secreto; y tu Padre que ve en lo oculto, te lo recompensará en público. Jesucristo y la oración

5 “ When you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward.

Y cuando ores, no seas como los hipócritas; porque les gusta orar en pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las plazas para ser vistos de los hombres; de cierto os digo que ya están recibiendo su recompensa.

6 B ut you, when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Pero tú, cuando ores, entra en tu aposento, y a puerta cerrada, ora a tu Padre que está en lo secreto; y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto, te lo recompensará en público.

7 I n praying, don’t use vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking.

Y cuando estéis orando, no parloteéis sin medida, como los gentiles, que piensan que serán oídos por su mucha palabrería.

8 T herefore don’t be like them, for your Father knows what things you need, before you ask him.

No os hagáis, pues, semejantes a ellos; porque vuestro Padre sabe de qué cosas tenéis necesidad, antes que vosotros le pidáis.

9 P ray like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.

Vosotros, pues, oraréis así: Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre.

10 L et your Kingdom come. Let your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.

Venga tu reino. Hágase tu voluntad, como en el cielo, así también en la tierra.

11 G ive us today our daily bread.

El pan nuestro de cada día, dánoslo hoy.

12 F orgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.

Y perdónanos nuestras deudas, como también nosotros perdonamos a nuestros deudores.

13 B ring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. ’

Y no nos metas en tentación, mas líbranos del mal; porque tuyo es el reino, el poder y la gloria, por todos los siglos. Amén.

14 “ For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Porque si perdonáis a los hombres sus ofensas, os perdonará también a vosotros vuestro Padre celestial;

15 B ut if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

pero si no perdonáis a los hombres sus ofensas, tampoco vuestro Padre os perdonará vuestras ofensas. Jesucristo y el ayuno

16 “ Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward.

Cuando ayunéis, no pongáis cara triste como los hipócritas; porque ellos desfiguran sus rostros para mostrar a los hombres que ayunan; de cierto os digo que ya están recibiendo su recompensa.

17 B ut you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face;

Pero tú, cuando ayunes, unge tu cabeza y lava tu rostro,

18 s o that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.

para no mostrar a los hombres que ayunas, sino a tu Padre que está en lo secreto; y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará en público. Tesoros en el cielo

19 “ Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal;

No alleguéis tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el orín corroen, y donde los ladrones horadan y hurtan;

20 b ut lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal;

sino allegaos tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el orín corroen, y donde los ladrones no horadan ni hurtan.

21 f or where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Porque donde está tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón. La lámpara del cuerpo

22 “ The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.

La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo; así que, si tu ojo es sencillo, todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de luz;

23 B ut if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

pero si tu ojo es maligno, todo tu cuerpo estará en tinieblas. Así que, si la luz que hay en ti es tinieblas, ¿cuán grandes no serán las tinieblas mismas? Dios y las riquezas

24 “ No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can’t serve both God and Mammon.

Nadie puede servir a dos señores; porque o aborrecerá al uno y amará al otro, o se adherirá al uno y menospreciará al otro. No podéis servir a Dios y a las riquezas. El afán y la ansiedad

25 T herefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Por tanto os digo: No os afanéis por vuestra vida, qué habéis de comer o qué habéis de beber; ni por vuestro cuerpo, qué habéis de vestir. ¿No es la vida más que el alimento, y el cuerpo más que el vestido?

26 S ee the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?

Mirad las aves del cielo, que no siembran, ni siegan, ni recogen en graneros; y vuestro Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No valéis vosotros mucho más que ellas?

27 “ Which of you, by being anxious, can add one moment to his lifespan?

¿Y quién de vosotros podrá, a fuerza de afanarse, añadir a su estatura un solo codo?

28 W hy are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don’t toil, neither do they spin,

¿Y por qué os afanáis por el vestido? Considerad los lirios del campo, cómo crecen; no se fatigan ni hilan;

29 y et I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these.

pero os digo, que ni aun Salomón, en medio de todo su esplendor, se vistió como uno solo de ellos.

30 B ut if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, won’t he much more clothe you, you of little faith?

Pues si a la hierba del campo, que hoy es y mañana se echa en el horno, Dios la viste así, ¿no lo hará mucho más a vosotros, hombres de poca fe?

31 “ Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’

No os afanéis, pues, diciendo: ¿Qué comeremos, o qué beberemos, o con qué nos vestiremos?

32 F or the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

Porque todas estas cosas las buscan con afán los gentiles; pues vuestro Padre celestial sabe que tenéis necesidad de todas estas cosas.

33 B ut seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.

Mas buscad primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas os serán añadidas.

34 T herefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

Así que, no os afanéis por el día de mañana, porque el día de mañana traerá su propia inquietud. Le basta a cada día su propio mal.
