1 N ow king David was old and advanced in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he couldn’t keep warm.

Cuando el rey David era viejo y avanzado en días, le cubrían de ropas, pero no se calentaba.

2 T herefore his servants said to him, “Let a young virgin be sought for my lord the king. Let her stand before the king, and cherish him; and let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may keep warm.”

Le dijeron, por tanto, sus siervos: Busquen para mi señor el rey una joven virgen, para que esté delante del rey y lo abrigue, y duerma a su lado, y entrará en calor mi señor el rey.

3 S o they sought for a beautiful young lady throughout all the borders of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

Y buscaron una joven hermosa por toda la tierra de Israel, y hallaron a Abisag sunamita, y la trajeron al rey.

4 T he young lady was very beautiful; and she cherished the king, and served him; but the king didn’t know her intimately.

Y la joven era hermosa; y ella abrigaba al rey, y le servía; pero el rey nunca la conoció. Adonías usurpa el trono

5 T hen Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” Then he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

Mientras tanto, Adonías hijo de Haguit se rebeló, diciendo: Yo reinaré. Y se hizo con carros y con gente de a caballo, y con cincuenta hombres que corriesen delante de él.

6 H is father had not displeased him at any time in saying, “Why have you done so?” and he was also a very handsome man; and he was born after Absalom.

Y su padre nunca le había entristecido en todos sus días diciéndole: ¿Por qué haces así? Era de muy hermoso parecer; y había nacido después de Absalón.

7 H e conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest; and they followed Adonijah and helped him.

Y se había puesto de acuerdo con Joab hijo de Sarvia y con el sacerdote Abiatar, los cuales ayudaban a Adonías.

8 B ut Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

Pero el sacerdote Sadoc, y Benayá hijo de Joyadá, el profeta Natán, Simeí, Reí y todos los grandes de David, no seguían a Adonías.

9 A donijah killed sheep, cattle, and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En Rogel; and he called all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s servants;

Sacrificó Adonías ovejas y vacas y animales gordos junto a la peña de Zohélet, la cual está cerca de la fuente de Rogel, y convidó a todos sus hermanos los hijos del rey, y a todos los varones de Judá, siervos del rey;

10 b ut he didn’t call Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother.

pero no convidó al profeta Natán, ni a Benayá, ni a los grandes, ni a Salomón su hermano.

11 T hen Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Haven’t you heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and David our lord doesn’t know it?

Entonces habló Natán a Betsabé madre de Salomón, diciendo: ¿No has oído que reina Adonías hijo de Haguit, sin saberlo David nuestro señor?

12 N ow therefore come, please let me give you counsel, that you may save your own life, and your son Solomon’s life.

Ven, pues, ahora, y toma mi consejo, para que conserves tu vida, y la de tu hijo Salomón.

13 G o in to king David, and tell him, ‘Didn’t you, my lord, king, swear to your servant, saying, “Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne?” Why then does Adonijah reign?’

Ve y entra al rey David, y dile: Rey señor mío, ¿no juraste a tu sierva, diciendo: Salomón tu hijo reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono? ¿Por qué, pues, reina Adonías?

14 B ehold, while you are still talking there with the king, I will also come in after you and confirm your words.”

Y estando tú aún hablando con el rey, yo entraré tras ti y reafirmaré tus razones.

15 B athsheba went in to the king in his room. The king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.

Entonces Betsabé entró a la cámara del rey; y el rey era muy viejo, y Abisag sunamita le servía.

16 B athsheba bowed, and showed respect to the king. The king said, “What would you like?”

Y Betsabé se inclinó, e hizo reverencia al rey. Y el rey dijo: ¿Qué te pasa?

17 S he said to him, “My lord, you swore by Yahweh your God to your servant, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’

Y ella le respondió: Señor mío, tú juraste a tu sierva por Jehová tu Dios, diciendo: Salomón tu hijo reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono.

18 N ow, behold, Adonijah reigns; and you, my lord the king, don’t know it.

Y he aquí ahora Adonías se hace pasar por rey, y tú, mi señor rey, aún no lo sabes.

19 H e has slain cattle and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the army; but he hasn’t called Solomon your servant.

Ha matado bueyes, y animales gordos, y muchas ovejas, y ha convidado a todos los hijos del rey, al sacerdote Abiatar, y a Joab general del ejército; mas a Salomón tu siervo no ha convidado.

20 Y ou, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, that you should tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

Entretanto, rey señor mío, los ojos de todo Israel están puestos en ti, para que les declares quién se ha de sentar en el trono de mi señor el rey después de él.

21 O therwise it will happen, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered criminals.”

De otra manera, sucederá que cuando mi señor el rey duerma con sus padres, yo y mi hijo Salomón seremos tenidos por culpables.

22 B ehold, while she was still talking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.

Mientras aún hablaba ella con el rey, he aquí vino el profeta Natán.

23 T hey told the king, saying, “Behold, Nathan the prophet!” When he had come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

Y dieron aviso al rey, diciendo: He aquí el profeta Natán; el cual, cuando entró al rey, se postró delante del rey inclinando su rostro a tierra.

24 N athan said, “My lord, king, have you said, ‘Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne?’

Y dijo Natán: Rey señor mío, ¿has dicho tú: Adonías reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono?

25 F or he has gone down today, and has slain cattle, fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king’s sons, the captains of the army, and Abiathar the priest. Behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and saying, ‘Long live king Adonijah!’

Porque hoy ha descendido, y ha matado bueyes y animales gordos y muchas ovejas, y ha convidado a todos los hijos del rey, y a los capitanes del ejército, y también al sacerdote Abiatar; y he aquí, están comiendo y bebiendo delante de él, y han dicho: ¡Viva el rey Adonías!

26 B ut he hasn’t called me, even me your servant, Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon.

Pero ni a mí tu siervo, ni al sacerdote Sadoc, ni a Benayá hijo de Joyadá, ni a Salomón tu siervo, ha convidado.

27 W as this thing done by my lord the king, and you haven’t shown to your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?”

¿Se hace esto por orden de mi señor el rey, sin haber declarado a tus siervos quién se había de sentar en el trono de mi señor el rey después de él? David proclama rey a Salomón

28 T hen king David answered, “Call Bathsheba in to me.” She came into the king’s presence and stood before the king.

Entonces el rey David respondió y dijo: Llamadme a Betsabé. Y ella entró a la presencia del rey, y se puso delante del rey.

29 T he king swore, and said, “As Yahweh lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

Y el rey juró diciendo: Vive Jehová, que ha redimido mi alma de toda angustia,

30 m ost certainly as I swore to you by Yahweh, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place;’ I will most certainly do this today.”

que como yo te he jurado por Jehová Dios de Israel, diciendo: Tu hijo Salomón reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono en lugar mío, que así lo haré hoy.

31 T hen Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and showed respect to the king, and said, “Let my lord king David live forever!”

Entonces Betsabé se inclinó ante el rey, con su rostro a tierra, y haciendo reverencia al rey, dijo: Viva mi señor el rey David para siempre.

32 K ing David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” They came before the king.

Y el rey David dijo: Llamadme al sacerdote Sadoc, al profeta Natán, y a Benayá hijo de Joyadá. Y ellos entraron a la presencia del rey.

33 T he king said to them, “Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.

Y el rey les dijo: Tomad con vosotros los siervos de vuestro señor, y montad a Salomón mi hijo en mi propia mula, y llevadlo a Guijón;

34 L et Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel. Blow the trumpet, and say, ‘Long live king Solomon!’

y allí lo ungirán el sacerdote Sadoc y el profeta Natán como rey sobre Israel, y tocaréis trompeta, diciendo: ¡Viva el rey Salomón!

35 T hen come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne; for he shall be king in my place. I have appointed him to be prince over Israel and over Judah.”

Después iréis vosotros detrás de él, y vendrá y se sentará en mi trono, y él reinará en mi lugar; porque a él he escogido para que sea príncipe sobre Israel y sobre Judá.

36 B enaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, “Amen. May Yahweh, the God of my lord the king, say so.

Entonces Benayá hijo de Joyadá respondió al rey y dijo: Amén. Así lo diga Jehová, Dios de mi señor el rey.

37 A s Yahweh has been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.”

De la manera que Jehová ha estado con mi señor el rey, así esté con Salomón, y haga mayor su trono que el trono de mi señor el rey David.

38 S o Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on king David’s mule, and brought him to Gihon.

Y descendieron el sacerdote Sadoc, el profeta Natán, Benayá hijo de Joyadá, y los cereteos y los peleteos, y montaron a Salomón en la mula del rey David, y lo llevaron a Guijón.

39 Z adok the priest took the horn of oil from the Tent, and anointed Solomon. They blew the trumpet; and all the people said, “Long live king Solomon!”

Y tomando el sacerdote Sadoc el cuerno del aceite del tabernáculo, ungió a Salomón; y tocaron trompeta, y dijo todo el pueblo: ¡Viva el rey Salomón!

40 A ll the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth shook with their sound.

Después subió todo el pueblo en pos de él, y cantaba la gente con flautas, y hacían grandes alegrías, que parecía que la tierra se hundía con el clamor de ellos.

41 A donijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they had finished eating. When Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, “Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar?”

Y lo oyó Adonías, y todos los convidados que con él estaban, cuando ya habían acabado de comer. Y oyendo Joab el sonido de la trompeta, dijo: ¿Por qué se alborota la ciudad con estruendo?

42 W hile he yet spoke, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said, “Come in; for you are a worthy man, and bring good news.”

Mientras él aún hablaba, he aquí vino Jonatán hijo del sacerdote Abiatar, al cual dijo Adonías: Entra, porque tú eres hombre valiente, y traerás buenas nuevas.

43 J onathan answered Adonijah, “Most certainly our lord king David has made Solomon king.

Jonatán respondió y dijo a Adonías: Ciertamente nuestro señor el rey David ha hecho rey a Salomón;

44 T he king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and they have caused him to ride on the king’s mule.

y el rey ha enviado con él al sacerdote Sadoc y al profeta Natán, y a Benayá hijo de Joyadá, y también a los cereteos y a los peleteos, los cuales le montaron en la mula del rey;

45 Z adok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon. They have come up from there rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that you have heard.

y el sacerdote Sadoc y el profeta Natán lo han ungido por rey en Guijón, y de allí han subido con gran regocijo, y la ciudad está llena de estruendo. Éste es el alboroto que habéis oído.

46 A lso, Solomon sits on the throne of the kingdom.

Más aún, Salomón se ha sentado en el trono del reino,

47 M oreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, ‘May your God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne;’ and the king bowed himself on the bed.

y aun los siervos del rey han venido a bendecir a nuestro señor el rey David, diciendo: Dios haga bueno el nombre de Salomón más que tu nombre y haga mayor su trono que el tuyo. Y el rey adoró en la cama.

48 A lso thus said the king, ‘Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne today, my eyes even seeing it.’”

Además el rey ha dicho así: Bendito sea Jehová Dios de Israel, que me concede hoy ver a un hijo mío sentado en mi trono.

49 A ll the guests of Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and each man went his way.

Ellos entonces se estremecieron, y se levantaron todos los convidados que estaban con Adonías, y se fue cada uno por su camino.

50 A donijah was afraid because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and hung onto the horns of the altar.

Mas Adonías, temiendo de la presencia de Salomón, se levantó y se fue, y se asió de los cuernos del altar.

51 S olomon was told, “Behold, Adonijah fears king Solomon; for, behold, he is hanging onto the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let king Solomon swear to me first that he will not kill his servant with the sword.’”

Y se lo hicieron saber a Salomón, diciendo: He aquí que Adonías tiene miedo del rey Salomón, pues se ha asido de los cuernos del altar, diciendo: Júreme hoy el rey Salomón que no matará a espada a su siervo.

52 S olomon said, “If he shows himself a worthy man, not a hair of his shall fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.”

Y Salomón dijo: Si él es hombre de bien, ni uno de sus cabellos caerá en tierra; mas si se halla mal en él, morirá.

53 S o king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. He came and bowed down to king Solomon; and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”

Y envió el rey Salomón, y lo trajeron del altar; y él vino, y se inclinó ante el rey Salomón. Y Salomón le dijo: Vete a tu casa.
