1 T he words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him:

Palabras de Lemuel rey de Massá; el oráculo con que le enseñó su madre.

2 W hat, my son? and what, O son of my womb? and what, O son of my vows?

¿Qué, hijo mío?; ¿y qué, hijo de mi vientre? ¿Y qué, hijo de mis deseos?

3 G ive not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to them that destroy kings.

No des a las mujeres tu fuerza, Ni tus caminos a lo que destruye a los reyes.

4 I t is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, nor for rulers, Where is the strong drink?

No es para los reyes, oh Lemuel, no es para los reyes beber vino, Ni para los príncipes los licores;

5 — lest they drink and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the children of affliction.

No sea que bebiendo olviden la ley, Y perviertan el derecho de todos los afligidos.

6 G ive strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto the bitter of soul:

Dad el licor fuerte al desfallecido, Y el vino a los de amargado ánimo.

7 l et him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

Beban, y olvídense de su necesidad, Y de su miseria no se acuerden más.

8 O pen thy mouth for the dumb, for the cause of all those that are left desolate.

Abre tu boca a favor del mudo En el juicio de todos los desvalidos.

9 O pen thy mouth, judge righteously, and minister justice to the afflicted and needy.

Abre tu boca, juzga con justicia, Y defiende la causa del pobre y del menesteroso. Elogio de la mujer hacendosa

10 W ho can find a woman of worth? for her price is far above rubies.

Mujer virtuosa, ¿quién la hallará? Porque su valía sobrepasa largamente a la de las piedras preciosas.

11 T he heart of her husband confideth in her, and he shall have no lack of spoil.

El corazón de su marido confía en ella, Y no carecerá de ganancias.

12 S he doeth him good, and not evil, all the days of her life.

Le aporta ella dicha y no desventura Todos los días de su vida.

13 S he seeketh wool and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

Busca lana y lino, Y con ánimo alegre trabaja con sus manos.

14 S he is like the merchants' ships: she bringeth her food from afar;

Es como nave de mercader; Trae de lejos sus provisiones.

15 A nd she riseth while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and the day's work to her maidens.

Se levanta cuando todavía es de noche Y da comida a su familia Y labor a sus criadas.

16 S he considereth a field, and acquireth it; of the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

Observa una finca, y la compra, Y planta una viña del fruto de sus manos.

17 S he girdeth her loins with strength, and maketh strong her arms.

Ciñe con fuerza sus lomos, Y esfuerza sus brazos.

18 S he perceiveth that her earning is good; her lamp goeth not out by night.

Ve que van bien sus negocios; Su lámpara no se apaga de noche.

19 S he putteth her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.

Aplica su mano al huso, Y sus palmas sostienen la rueca.

20 S he stretcheth out her hand to the afflicted, and she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

Alarga su palma al pobre, Y extiende sus manos al menesteroso.

21 S he is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

No tiene temor de la nieve por su familia, Porque toda su familia está vestida de trajes forrados.

22 S he maketh herself coverlets; her clothing is byssus and purple.

Ella se hace tapices; De lino fino y púrpura es su vestido.

23 H er husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

Su marido es conocido en las puertas, Cuando se sienta con los ancianos de la tierra,

24 S he maketh body linen and selleth it, and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

Hace telas, y las vende, Y da ceñidores al mercader.

25 S trength and dignity are her clothing, and she laugheth the coming day.

Fuerza y honor son su vestidura; Y sonríe ante el porvenir.

26 S he openeth her mouth with wisdom; and upon her tongue is the law of kindness.

Abre su boca con sabiduría, Y la instrucción bondadosa está en su lengua.

27 S he surveyeth the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

Vigila los caminos de su familia, Y no come el pan de balde.

28 H er children rise up and call her blessed; her husband, and he praiseth her:

Se levantan sus hijos y la llaman dichosa; Y su marido también la alaba:

29 M any daughters have done worthily, but thou excellest them all.

Muchas mujeres se mostraron virtuosas; Mas tú las sobrepasas a todas.

30 G racefulness is deceitful and beauty is vain; a woman feareth Jehovah, she shall be praised.

Engañosa es la gracia, y vana la hermosura; La mujer que teme a Jehová, ésa será alabada.

31 G ive her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Dadle del fruto de sus manos, Y alábenla en las puertas sus hechos.
