1 W hen thou goest out to war against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, a people more numerous than thou, thou shalt not fear them; for Jehovah thy God is with thee, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

Cuando salgas a la guerra contra tus enemigos, si ves caballos y carros, y un pueblo más grande que tú, no tengas temor de ellos, porque está contigo Jehová tu Dios, el cual te sacó de tierra de Egipto.

2 A nd it shall be, when ye approach unto the battle, that the priest shall draw near and speak unto the people,

Y cuando os acerquéis para combatir, se pondrá en pie el sacerdote y hablará al pueblo,

3 a nd shall say unto them, Hear, Israel, ye are approaching this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be afraid of them;

y les dirá: Oye, Israel, vosotros os juntáis hoy en batalla contra vuestros enemigos; no desmaye vuestro corazón, no temáis, ni os azoréis, ni tampoco os desalentéis delante de ellos;

4 f or Jehovah your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

porque Jehová vuestro Dios va con vosotros, para pelear por vosotros contra vuestros enemigos, para salvaros.

5 A nd the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

Y los oficiales hablarán al pueblo, diciendo: ¿Quién ha edificado casa nueva, y no la ha estrenado? Vaya, y vuélvase a su casa, no sea que muera en la batalla, y otro hombre la estrene.

6 A nd what man is there that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not eaten of it? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it.

¿Y quién ha plantado viña, y no ha disfrutado de ella? Vaya, y vuélvase a su casa, no sea que muera en la batalla, y otro la disfrute.

7 A nd what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

¿Y quién se ha desposado con mujer, y no la ha tomado? Vaya, y vuélvase a su casa, no sea que muera en la batalla, y otro hombre la tome.

8 A nd the officers shall speak further unto the people, and shall say, What man is there that is timid and faint-hearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart melt as well as his heart.

Y volverán los oficiales a hablar al pueblo, y dirán: ¿Quién es hombre medroso y pusilánime? Vaya, y vuélvase a su casa, y no apoque el corazón de sus hermanos, como el corazón suyo.

9 A nd it shall be, when the officers have ended speaking unto the people, that they shall place captains of the hosts at the head of the people.

Y cuando los oficiales acaben de hablar al pueblo, entonces los capitanes del ejército tomarán el mando a la cabeza del pueblo. La conquista de las ciudades

10 W hen thou approachest unto a city to fight against it, thou shalt proclaim peace unto it.

Cuando te acerques a una ciudad para combatirla, le propondrás la paz.

11 A nd it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then all the people that are found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

Y si responde: Paz, y te abre, todo el pueblo que en ella sea hallado te será tributario, y te servirá.

12 A nd if it will not make peace with thee, but will make war with thee, then thou shalt besiege it;

Mas si no hace paz contigo, y emprende guerra contigo, entonces la sitiarás.

13 a nd when Jehovah thy God delivereth it into thy hand, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:

Luego que Jehová tu Dios la entregue en tu mano, herirás a todo varón suyo a filo de espada.

14 o nly the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that shall be in the city, all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take as booty for thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee

Solamente las mujeres y los niños, y los animales, y todo lo que haya en la ciudad, todo su botín tomarás para ti; y comerás del botín de tus enemigos, los cuales Jehová tu Dios te entregó.

15 T hus shalt thou do unto all the cities that are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.

Así harás a todas las ciudades que estén muy lejos de ti, que no sean de las ciudades de estas naciones.

16 B ut of the cities of these peoples which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth,

Pero de las ciudades de estos pueblos que Jehová tu Dios te da por heredad, ninguna persona dejarás con vida,

17 b ut shalt utterly devote them to destruction, the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee;

sino que los destruirás completamente: al heteo, al amorreo, al cananeo, al ferezeo, al heveo y al jebuseo, como Jehová tu Dios te ha mandado;

18 t hat they teach you not to do according to all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods, so that ye sin against Jehovah your God.

para que no os enseñen a hacer según todas sus abominaciones que ellos han hecho para sus dioses, y pequéis contra Jehová vuestro Dios.

19 W hen thou shalt besiege a city many days, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by lifting up an axe against them; for thou canst eat of them; and thou shalt not cut them down, for is the tree of the field a man that it should be besieged?

Cuando sities alguna ciudad, peleando contra ella muchos días para tomarla, no destruirás sus árboles metiendo hacha en ellos, sino que te alimentarás de ellos sin talarlos, porque el árbol del campo no es hombre para venir contra ti en el sitio.

20 O nly the trees which thou knowest are not trees for meat, thou mayest destroy and cut them down, and build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it fall.

Mas el árbol que sepas que no es frutal, podrás destruirlo y talarlo, para construir baluarte contra la ciudad que te hace la guerra, hasta sojuzgarla.
