1 A nd Nahash the Ammonite came up and encamped against Jabesh-Gilead. And all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

Después subió Nahás amonita, y acampó contra Jabés de Galaad. Y todos los de Jabés dijeron a Nahás: Haz alianza con nosotros, y te serviremos.

2 A nd Nahash the Ammonite said to them, On this will I treat with you, that I thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.

Y Nahás amonita les respondió: Con esta condición haré alianza con vosotros, que a cada uno de todos vosotros saque el ojo derecho, y ponga esta afrenta sobre todo Israel.

3 A nd the elders of Jabesh said to him, Allow us seven days, and we will send messengers into all the districts of Israel; and if there be no man to deliver us, we will come out to thee.

Entonces los ancianos de Jabés le dijeron: Danos siete días, para que enviemos mensajeros por todo el territorio de Israel; y si no hay nadie que nos defienda, saldremos a ti.

4 A nd the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul and told these words in the ears of the people. And all the people lifted up their voice and wept.

Llegando los mensajeros a Guibeá de Saúl, dijeron estas palabras en oídos del pueblo; y todo el pueblo alzó su voz y lloró.

5 A nd behold, Saul came after the oxen from the field; and Saul said, What the people that they weep? And they related to him the words of the men of Jabesh.

Y he aquí que Saúl venía del campo, tras los bueyes; y dijo Saúl: ¿Qué tiene el pueblo, que llora? Y le contaron las palabras de los hombres de Jabés.

6 A nd the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those words, and his anger was kindled greatly.

Al oír Saúl estas palabras, el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre él con poder; y él se encendió en ira en gran manera.

7 A nd he took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, and sent throughout the territory of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, Whoever comes not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen! And the fear of Jehovah fell on the people, and they came out as one man.

Y tomando un par de bueyes, los cortó en trozos y los envió por todo el territorio de Israel por medio de mensajeros, diciendo: Así se hará con los bueyes del que no salga en pos de Saúl y en pos de Samuel. Y cayó temor de Jehová sobre el pueblo, y salieron como un solo hombre.

8 A nd he numbered them in Bezek, and the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

Y los contó en Bézec; y fueron los hijos de Israel trescientos mil, y treinta mil los hombres de Judá.

9 A nd they said to the messengers that had come, Thus shall ye say to the men of Jabesh-Gilead: To-morrow ye shall have deliverance when the sun is hot. And the messengers came and informed the men of Jabesh-Gilead; and they were glad.

Y respondieron a los mensajeros que habían venido: Así diréis a los de Jabés de Galaad: Mañana al calentar el sol, seréis librados. Y vinieron los mensajeros y lo anunciaron a los de Jabés, los cuales se alegraron.

10 A nd the men of Jabesh said, To-morrow we will come out to you, and ye may do with us according to all that is good in your sight.

Y los de Jabés dijeron a los enemigos: Mañana saldremos a vosotros, para que hagáis con nosotros todo lo que os parezca bien.

11 A nd it came to pass the next day that Saul set the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and smote Ammon until the heat of the day: and it came to pass that they who remained were scattered, and not two of them were left together.

Aconteció que al día siguiente dispuso Saúl al pueblo en tres compañías, y entraron en medio del campamento a la vigilia de la mañana, e hirieron a los amonitas hasta que el día calentó; y los que quedaron fueron dispersos, de tal manera que no quedaron dos de ellos juntos.

12 A nd the people said to Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.

El pueblo entonces dijo a Samuel: ¿Quiénes son los que decían: Ha de reinar Saúl sobre nosotros? Dadnos esos hombres, y los mataremos.

13 B ut Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day; for to-day Jehovah has wrought deliverance in Israel.

Y Saúl dijo: No morirá hoy ninguno, porque hoy Jehová ha dado salvación en Israel.

14 A nd Samuel said to the people, Come and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.

Entonces dijo Samuel al pueblo: Venid, vamos a Gilgal para que renovemos allí el reino.

15 A nd all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before Jehovah in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed peace-offerings before Jehovah. And there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced exceedingly.

Y fue todo el pueblo a Gilgal, e invistieron allí a Saúl por rey delante de Jehová en Gilgal. Y sacrificaron allí ofrenda de paz delante de Jehová, y se alegraron mucho allí Saúl y todos los de Israel.
