1 A nd it came to pass after many days, that the word of Jehovah came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself to Ahab; and I will send rain upon the face of the earth.

Pasados muchos días, vino palabra de Jehová a Elías en el tercer año, diciendo: Ve, muéstrate a Acab, y yo haré llover sobre la faz de la tierra.

2 A nd Elijah went to shew himself to Ahab. And the famine was severe in Samaria.

Fue, pues, Elías a mostrarse a Acab. Y el hambre apretaba de recio en Samaria.

3 A nd Ahab called Obadiah, who was the steward of his house (now Obadiah feared Jehovah greatly;

Y Acab llamó a Abdías su mayordomo. Abdías era en gran manera temeroso de Jehová.

4 a nd it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and maintained them with bread and water);

Porque cuando Jezabel destruía a los profetas de Jehová, Abdías tomó a cien profetas y los escondió de cincuenta en cincuenta en cuevas, y los sustentó con pan y agua.

5 a nd Ahab said to Obadiah, Go through the land, to all the fountains of water and to all the torrents, perhaps we may find grass to save the horses and the mules alive, so that we may not have to destroy some of beasts.

Dijo, pues, Acab a Abdías: Ve por el país a todas las fuentes de aguas, y a todos los arroyos, a ver si acaso hallaremos hierba con que conservemos la vida a los caballos y a las mulas, para que no nos quedemos sin bestias.

6 A nd they divided the land between them to pass through it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

Y dividieron entre sí el país para recorrerlo; Acab fue por un camino, y Abdías fue separadamente por otro.

7 A nd as Obadiah was on the way, behold, Elijah met him; and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Is it indeed thou, my lord Elijah?

Y yendo Abdías por el camino, se encontró con Elías; y cuando lo reconoció, se postró sobre su rostro y dijo: ¿No eres tú mi señor Elías?

8 A nd he said to him, I: go, say to thy lord, Behold Elijah!

Y él respondió: Yo soy; ve, di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías.

9 A nd he said, What have I sinned, that thou givest thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to put me to death?

Pero él dijo: ¿En qué he pecado, para que entregues a tu siervo en mano de Acab para que me mate?

10 A s Jehovah thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom whither my lord has not sent to seek thee; and when they said, He is not, he took an oath of the kingdom or nation that they found thee not.

Vive Jehová tu Dios, que no ha habido nación ni reino adonde mi señor no haya enviado a buscarte, y todos han respondido: No está aquí; y a reinos y a naciones él ha hecho jurar que no te han hallado.

11 A nd now thou sayest, Go, say to thy lord, Behold Elijah!

¿Y ahora tú dices: Vete a decir a tu amo: Aquí está Elías?

12 A nd it shall come to pass when I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of Jehovah shall carry thee whither I know not; and when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he will kill me; and I thy servant fear Jehovah from my youth.

Acontecerá que luego que yo me haya ido, el Espíritu de Jehová te llevará adonde yo no sepa, y al venir yo y dar las nuevas a Acab, al no hallarte él, me matará; y tu siervo teme a Jehová desde su juventud.

13 W as it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of Jehovah, how I hid a hundred men of Jehovah's prophets by fifty in a cave, and maintained them with bread and water?

¿No ha sido dicho a mi señor lo que hice, cuando Jezabel mataba a los profetas de Jehová; que escondí a cien varones de los profetas de Jehová de cincuenta en cincuenta en cuevas, y los mantuve con pan y agua?

14 A nd now thou sayest, Go, say to thy lord, Behold Elijah! and he will kill me.

¿Y ahora dices tú: Vete a decir a tu amo: Aquí está Elías; para que él me mate?

15 A nd Elijah said, As Jehovah of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will certainly shew myself to him to-day.

Y le dijo Elías: Vive Jehová de los ejércitos, en cuya presencia estoy, que hoy me mostraré a él.

16 T hen Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him. And Ahab went to meet Elijah.

Entonces Abdías fue a encontrarse con Acab, y le dio el aviso; y Acab vino a encontrarse con Elías.

17 A nd it came to pass when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, Is it thou, the troubler of Israel?

Cuando Acab vio a Elías, le dijo: ¿Eres tú el que perturbas a Israel?

18 A nd he said, I have not troubled Israel, but thou and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of Jehovah, and thou hast followed the Baals.

Y él respondió: Yo no he perturbado a Israel, sino tú y la casa de tu padre, dejando los mandamientos de Jehová, y siguiendo a los baales.

19 A nd now send, gather to me all Israel to mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, who eat at Jezebel's table.

Envía, pues, ahora y congrégame a todo Israel en el monte Carmel, junto con los cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas de Baal, y los cuatrocientos profetas de Aserá, que comen de la mesa de Jezabel. Elías y los profetas de Baal

20 S o Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.

Entonces Acab convocó a todos los hijos de Israel, y reunió a los profetas en el monte Carmel.

21 T hen Elijah drew near to all the people, and said, How long do ye halt between two opinions? if Jehovah be God, follow him; and if Baal, follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

Y acercándose Elías a todo el pueblo, dijo: ¿Hasta cuándo claudicaréis vosotros entre dos pensamientos? Si Jehová es Dios, seguidle; y si Baal, id en pos de él. Y el pueblo no respondió palabra.

22 A nd Elijah said to the people, I, only I, remain a prophet of Jehovah; and Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

Y Elías volvió a decir al pueblo: Sólo yo he quedado como profeta de Jehová; mas de los profetas de Baal hay cuatrocientos cincuenta hombres.

23 L et them therefore give us two bullocks: and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and put it on the wood, and put no fire; and I will sacrifice the other bullock, and put it on the wood, and put no fire.

Dénsenos, pues, dos bueyes, y escojan ellos uno, y córtenlo en pedazos, y pónganlo sobre leña, pero no pongan fuego debajo; y yo prepararé el otro buey, y lo pondré sobre leña, y ningún fuego pondré debajo.

24 A nd call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of Jehovah; and the god that answers by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, The word is good.

Invocad luego vosotros el nombre de vuestros dioses, y yo invocaré el nombre de Jehová; y el Dios que responda por medio de fuego, ése sea Dios. Y todo el pueblo respondió, diciendo: Bien dicho.

25 A nd Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, Choose one bullock for yourselves, and sacrifice it first; for ye are the many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire.

Entonces Elías dijo a los profetas de Baal: Escogeos un buey, y preparadlo vosotros primero, pues que sois los más; e invocad el nombre de vuestros dioses, mas no pongáis fuego debajo.

26 A nd they took the bullock which had been given them, and sacrificed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, O Baal, answer us! But there was no voice, and none answered. And they leaped about the altar that had been made.

Y ellos tomaron el buey que les fue dado y lo prepararon, e invocaron el nombre de Baal desde la mañana hasta el mediodía, diciendo: ¡Baal, respóndenos! Pero no había voz, ni quien respondiese; entretanto, ellos andaban saltando cerca del altar que habían hecho.

27 A nd it came to pass at noon that Elijah mocked them and said, Cry aloud; for he is a god; for he is meditating, or gone aside, or he is on a journey; perhaps he sleeps, and will awake.

Y aconteció al mediodía, que Elías se burlaba de ellos, diciendo: Gritad en alta voz, porque es un dios; quizás está meditando, o tiene algún trabajo, o va de camino; tal vez duerme, y hay que despertarle.

28 A nd they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with swords and spears, till the blood gushed out upon them.

Y ellos clamaban a grandes voces, y se sajaban con cuchillos y con lancetas conforme a su costumbre, hasta chorrear la sangre sobre ellos.

29 A nd it came to pass when midday was past, that they prophesied until the of the offering up of the oblation; but there was neither voice, nor any that answered, nor any attention.

Pasó el mediodía, y ellos siguieron gritando frenéticamente hasta la hora de ofrecerse el sacrificio, pero no hubo ninguna voz, ni quien escuchase ni respondiese.

30 T hen Elijah said to all the people, Draw near to me. And all the people drew near to him. And he repaired the altar of Jehovah which was broken down.

Entonces dijo Elías a todo el pueblo: Acercaos a mí. Y todo el pueblo se le acercó; y él arregló el altar de Jehová que estaba arruinado.

31 A nd Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of Jehovah came saying, Israel shall be thy name;

Y tomando Elías doce piedras, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob, al cual había sido dada palabra de Jehová diciendo, Israel será tu nombre,

32 a nd with the stones he built an altar in the name of Jehovah, and made a trench round about the altar, of the capacity of two measures of seed;

edificó con las piedras un altar en el nombre de Jehová; después hizo una zanja alrededor del altar, en que cupieran dos medidas de grano.

33 a nd he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it on the wood. And he said, Fill four pitchers with water, and pour it on the burnt-offering, and on the wood.

Preparó luego la leña, y cortó el buey en pedazos, y lo puso sobre la leña.

34 A nd he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.

Y dijo: Llenad cuatro cántaros de agua, y derramadla sobre el holocausto y sobre la leña. Y dijo: Hacedlo otra vez; y otra vez lo hicieron. Dijo aún: Hacedlo la tercera vez; y lo hicieron la tercera vez,

35 A nd the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.

de manera que el agua corría alrededor del altar, y también se había llenado de agua la zanja.

36 A nd it came to pass at the offering up of the oblation, that Elijah the prophet drew near, and said, Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things by thy word.

Cuando llegó la hora de ofrecerse el holocausto, se acercó el profeta Elías y dijo: Jehová Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, sea hoy manifiesto que tú eres Dios en Israel, y que yo soy tu siervo, y que por mandato tuyo he hecho todas estas cosas.

37 A nswer me, Jehovah, answer me, that this people may know that thou Jehovah art God, and thou hast turned their heart back again.

Respóndeme, Jehová, respóndeme, para que conozca este pueblo que tú, oh Jehová, eres el Dios, y que tú vuelves a ti el corazón de ellos.

38 A nd the fire of Jehovah fell, and consumed the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

Entonces cayó fuego de Jehová, y consumió el holocausto, la leña, las piedras y el polvo, y aun lamió el agua que estaba en la zanja.

39 A nd all the people saw, and they fell on their faces and said, Jehovah, he is God! Jehovah, he is God!

Viéndolo todo el pueblo, se postraron y dijeron: ¡Jehová es el Dios, Jehová es el Dios!

40 A nd Elijah said to them, Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape! And they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the torrent of Kishon, and slaughtered them there.

Entonces Elías les dijo: Prended a los profetas de Baal, para que no escape ninguno. Y ellos los prendieron; y los llevó Elías al arroyo de Cisón, y allí los hizo degollar. Elías ora por lluvia

41 A nd Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

Entonces Elías dijo a Acab: Sube, come y bebe; porque ya se oye el rumor de una gran lluvia.

42 A nd Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed down on the earth, and put his face between his knees.

Acab subió a comer y a beber. Y Elías subió a la cumbre del Carmel, y postrándose en tierra, puso su rostro entre las rodillas.

43 A nd he said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up and looked, and said, nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

Y dijo a su criado: Sube ahora, y mira hacia el mar. Y él subió, y miró, y dijo: No hay nada. Y él se lo volvió a decir siete veces.

44 A nd it came to pass at the seventh time that he said, Behold there is a cloud, small as a man's hand, arising out of the sea. And he said, Go up, say to Ahab, Harness and go down, that the pour of rain stop thee not.

A la séptima vez dijo: Yo veo una pequeña nube como la palma de la mano de un hombre, que sube del mar. Y él dijo: Ve a decirle a Acab: Unce tu carro y desciende, para que la lluvia no te ataje.

45 A nd it came to pass in the mean while, that the heavens became black clouds and wind, and there was a great pour of rain. And Ahab got on the chariot, and went to Jizreel.

Y aconteció, estando en esto, que los cielos se oscurecieron con nubes y viento, y hubo una gran lluvia. Y subiendo Acab, vino a Jizreel.

46 A nd the hand of Jehovah was upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jizreel.

Y la mano de Jehová estuvo sobre Elías, el cual ciñó sus lomos, y corrió delante de Acab hasta llegar a Jizreel.
