1 A nd the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building the temple to Jehovah the God of Israel;

Oyendo los enemigos de Judá y de Benjamín que los venidos de la cautividad edificaban el templo de Jehová Dios de Israel,

2 a nd they came to Zerubbabel and to the chief fathers, and said to them, We would build with you; for we seek your God, as ye; and we have sacrificed to him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up hither.

vinieron a Zorobabel y a los jefes de casas paternas, y les dijeron: Edificaremos con vosotros, porque como vosotros buscamos a vuestro Dios, y a él ofrecemos sacrificios desde los días de Esar-hadón, rey de Asiria, que nos hizo venir aquí.

3 B ut Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the chief fathers of Israel said to them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build a house to our God, but we alone will build to Jehovah the God of Israel, as king Cyrus, the king of Persia, has commanded us.

Zorobabel, Jesúa, y los demás jefes de casas paternas de Israel dijeron: No nos conviene edificar con vosotros casa a nuestro Dios, sino que nosotros solos la edificaremos a Jehová, Dios de Israel, como nos mandó el rey Ciro, rey de Persia.

4 A nd the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building;

Pero el pueblo de la tierra intimidó al pueblo de Judá, y lo atemorizó para que no edificara.

5 a nd they hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Sobornaron además contra ellos a los consejeros para frustrar sus propósitos, todo el tiempo de Ciro, rey de Persia, y hasta el reinado de Darío, rey de Persia.

6 A nd in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

Y en el reinado de Asuero, en el principio de su reinado, escribieron acusaciones contra los habitantes de Judá y de Jerusalén.

7 A nd in the days of Artaxerxes, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, wrote to Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in Aramaic, and interpreted in Aramaic.

También en días de Artajerjes escribieron Bislam, Mitrídates, Tabeel y los demás compañeros suyos, a Artajerjes rey de Persia; y la escritura y el lenguaje de la carta eran en arameo.

8 R ehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king after this sort:

Rehum canciller y Simsay secretario escribieron una carta contra Jerusalén al rey Artajerjes.

9 R ehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, and the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehaites, the Elamites,

En tal fecha escribieron Rehum canciller y Simsay secretario, y los demás compañeros suyos los jueces, gobernadores y oficiales, y los de Persia, de Erec, de Babilonia, de Susa, esto es, los elamitas,

10 a nd the rest of the peoples whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over and settled in the cities of Samaria, and the rest on this side the river, and so forth.

y los demás pueblos que el grande y glorioso Asnapar transportó e hizo habitar en las ciudades de Samaria y las demás provincias del otro lado del río.

11 T his is the copy of the letter that they sent to him: To Artaxerxes the king: Thy servants the men on this side the river, and so forth.

Y esta es la copia de la carta que enviaron: Al rey Artajerjes: Tus siervos del otro lado del río te saludan.

12 B e it known to the king that the Jews who came up from thee unto us have come to Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and they complete the walls and join up the foundations.

Sea notorio al rey, que los judíos que subieron de ti a nosotros vinieron a Jerusalén; y edifican la ciudad rebelde y mala, y levantan los muros y reparan los fundamentos.

13 B e it known therefore unto the king, that, if this city be built and the walls be completed, they will not pay tribute, tax, and toll, and in the end it will bring damage to the kings.

Ahora sea notorio al rey, que si aquella ciudad es reedificada, y los muros son levantados, no pagarán tributo, impuesto y rentas, y el erario de los reyes será menoscabado.

14 N ow, since we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not right for us to see the king's injury, therefore have we sent and informed the king;

Siendo que nos mantienen del palacio, no nos es justo ver el menosprecio del rey, por lo cual hemos enviado a hacerlo saber al rey,

15 t hat search may be made in the book of the annals of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the annals and know that this city is a rebellious city, which has done damage to kings and provinces, and that they have raised sedition within the same of old time, for which cause this city was destroyed.

para que se busque en el libro de las memorias de tus padres. Hallarás en el libro de las memorias, y sabrás que esta ciudad es ciudad rebelde, y perjudicial a los reyes y a las provincias, y que de tiempo antiguo forman en medio de ella rebeliones, por lo que esta ciudad fue destruida.

16 W e inform the king that if this city be built and its walls be completed, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.

Hacemos saber al rey que si esta ciudad es reedificada, y son levantados sus muros, la región de más allá del río no será tuya.

17 T he king sent an answer to Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and the other places beyond the river: Peace, and so forth.

El rey envió esta respuesta: A Rehum canciller, a Simsay secretario, a los demás compañeros suyos que habitan en Samaria, y a los demás del otro lado del río: Salud y paz.

18 T he letter that ye sent to us has been read before me distinctly.

La carta que nos enviasteis fue leída claramente delante de mí.

19 A nd I gave orders, and search has been made, and it has been found that this city of old time has made insurrection against the kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been raised therein.

Y por mí fue dada orden y buscaron; y hallaron que aquella ciudad de tiempo antiguo se levanta contra los reyes y se rebela, y se forma en ella sedición;

20 A nd there have been mighty kings over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all beyond the river; and tribute, tax, and toll were paid to them.

y que hubo en Jerusalén reyes fuertes que dominaron en todo lo que hay más allá del río, y que se les pagaba tributo, impuesto y rentas.

21 N ow give order to make these men to cease, and that this city be not built, until the order shall be given from me;

Ahora, pues, dad orden de que cesen aquellos hombres, y no sea esa ciudad reedificada hasta que por mí sea dada nueva orden.

22 a nd take heed that ye fail not to do this: why should harm grow to the damage of the kings?

Y mirad que no seáis negligentes en esto; no sea que el mal aumente en perjuicio de los reyes.

23 A s soon as the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews, and made them cease by force and power.

Entonces, cuando la copia de la carta del rey Artajerjes fue leída delante de Rehum, y de Simsay secretario y sus compañeros, fueron apresuradamente a Jerusalén a los judíos, y les hicieron cesar con poder y violencia.

24 T hen ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Entonces cesó la obra de la casa de Dios que estaba en Jerusalén, y quedó suspendida hasta el año segundo del reinado de Darío, rey de Persia.
