1 A nd all the children of Israel went forth, and the assembly gathered together as one man, from Dan to Beer-sheba, and the land of Gilead, unto Jehovah at Mizpah.

Entonces salieron todos los hijos de Israel, y se reunió la congregación como un solo hombre, desde Dan hasta Beerseba y la tierra de Galaad, a Jehová en Mizpá.

2 A nd the heads of all the people, of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the congregation of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.

Y los jefes de todo el pueblo, de todas las tribus de Israel, se hallaron presentes en la reunión del pueblo de Dios, cuatrocientos mil hombres de a pie que sacaban espada.

3 A nd the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah. And the children of Israel said, Tell, how was this wickedness?

Y los hijos de Benjamín oyeron que los hijos de Israel habían subido a Mizpá. Y dijeron los hijos de Israel: Decid cómo fue esta maldad.

4 T hen the Levite, the husband of the woman that was murdered, answered and said, I came to Gibeah that to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.

Entonces el varón levita, marido de la mujer muerta, respondió y dijo: Yo llegué a Guibeá de Benjamín con mi concubina, para pasar allí la noche.

5 A nd the citizens of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house because of me, by night; they thought to slay me, and my concubine have they humbled so that she died.

Y levantándose contra mí los de Guibeá, rodearon contra mí la casa por la noche, con idea de matarme, y a mi concubina la humillaron de tal manera que murió.

6 T hen I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and villany in Israel.

Entonces, tomando yo a mi concubina, la corté en pedazos, y la envié por todo el territorio de la posesión de Israel, por cuanto han hecho maldad y crimen en Israel.

7 B ehold, all ye, children of Israel, deliberate and give here counsel.

He aquí, todos vosotros sois hijos de Israel; dad aquí vuestro parecer y consejo.

8 A nd all the people rose up as one man, saying, We will not any one go to his tent, neither will we any one turn into his house.

Entonces todo el pueblo, como un solo hombre, se levantó, y dijeron: Ninguno de nosotros irá a su tienda, ni volverá ninguno de nosotros a su casa.

9 B ut now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: by lot against it;

Mas esto es ahora lo que haremos a Guibeá: contra ella subiremos por sorteo.

10 a nd we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand of ten thousand, to fetch victuals for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the villany that they have wrought in Israel.

Tomaremos diez hombres de cada ciento por todas las tribus de Israel, y ciento de cada mil, y mil de cada diez mil, que lleven víveres para el pueblo, para que yendo a Guibeá de Benjamín le hagan conforme a toda la abominación que ha cometido en Israel.

11 A nd all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.

Y se juntaron todos los hombres de Israel contra la ciudad, coaligados como un solo hombre. Obstinación de los benjaminitas

12 A nd the tribes of Israel sent men to all the families of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that has been done among you?

Y las tribus de Israel enviaron varones por toda la tribu de Benjamín, diciendo: ¿Qué maldad es ésta que ha sido hecha entre vosotros?

13 A nd now give up the men, the sons of Belial, who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.

Entregad, pues, ahora a aquellos hombres perversos que están en Guibeá, para que los matemos, y quitemos el mal de Israel. Mas los de Benjamín no quisieron oír la voz de sus hermanos los hijos de Israel,

14 A nd the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities of Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.

sino que los de Benjamín se juntaron de sus ciudades en Guibeá, para pelear contra los hijos de Israel. Primeros combates

15 A nd the children of Benjamin were numbered at that time out of the cities, twenty-six thousand men that drew sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.

Y fueron contados en aquel tiempo los hijos de Benjamín de las ciudades, veintiséis mil hombres que sacaban espada, sin contar los habitantes de Guibeá, que fueron por cuenta setecientos hombres escogidos.

16 A mong all this people there were seven hundred chosen men left-handed; all these slang stones at a hair, and missed not.

De toda aquella gente había setecientos hombres escogidos, que eran ambidextros, todos los cuales tiraban una piedra con la honda a un cabello, y no erraban.

17 A nd the men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword: all these were men of war.

Y fueron contados los varones de Israel, fuera de Benjamín, cuatrocientos mil hombres que sacaban espada, todos éstos hombres de guerra.

18 A nd the children of Israel arose and went up to Bethel, and inquired of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And Jehovah said, Judah first.

Luego se levantaron los hijos de Israel, y subieron a la casa de Dios y consultaron a Dios, diciendo: ¿Quién subirá de nosotros el primero en la guerra contra los hijos de Benjamín? Y Jehová respondió: Judá será el primero.

19 A nd the children of Israel rose up in the morning and encamped against Gibeah.

Se levantaron, pues, los hijos de Israel por la mañana, contra Guibeá.

20 A nd the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel put themselves in array to fight against them at Gibeah.

Y salieron los hijos de Israel a combatir contra Benjamín, y los varones de Israel ordenaron la batalla contra ellos junto a Guibeá.

21 A nd the children of Benjamin went forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed to the ground of the Israelites that day twenty-two thousand men.

Saliendo entonces de Guibeá los hijos de Benjamín, derribaron por tierra aquel día veintidós mil hombres de los hijos de Israel.

22 A nd the people, the men of Israel, took courage, and set the battle again in array in the place where they put themselves in array the first day.

Mas reanimándose el pueblo, los varones de Israel volvieron a ordenar la batalla en el mismo lugar donde la habían ordenado el primer día.

23 A nd the children of Israel went up and wept before Jehovah until even, and inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And Jehovah said, Go up against him.

Porque los hijos de Israel subieron y lloraron delante de Jehová hasta la noche, y consultaron a Jehová, diciendo: ¿Volveremos a pelear con los hijos de Benjamín nuestros hermanos? Y Jehová les respondió: Subid contra ellos.

24 A nd the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.

Por lo cual se acercaron los hijos de Israel contra los hijos de Benjamín el segundo día.

25 A nd Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and again destroyed to the ground of the children of Israel eighteen thousand men: all these drew the sword.

Y aquel segundo día, saliendo Benjamín de Guibeá contra ellos, derribaron por tierra otros dieciocho mil hombres de los hijos de Israel, todos los cuales sacaban espada.

26 T hen all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up and came to Bethel, and wept, and abode there before Jehovah, and fasted that day until even, and offered up burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before Jehovah.

Entonces subieron todos los hijos de Israel, y todo el pueblo, y vinieron a la casa de Dios; y lloraron, y se sentaron allí en presencia de Jehová, y ayunaron aquel día hasta la noche; y ofrecieron holocaustos y ofrendas de paz delante de Jehová.

27 A nd the children of Israel inquired of Jehovah (and the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,

Y los hijos de Israel preguntaron a Jehová (pues el arca del pacto de Dios estaba allí en aquellos días,

28 a nd Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And Jehovah said, Go up; for to-morrow I will give them into thy hand.

y Fineés hijo de Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, ministraba delante de ella en aquellos días), y dijeron: ¿Volveremos aún a salir contra los hijos de Benjamín nuestros hermanos, para pelear, o desistiremos? Y Jehová dijo: Subid, porque mañana yo os los entregaré.

29 A nd Israel set liers in wait against Gibeah, round about.

Y puso Israel emboscadas alrededor de Guibeá.

30 A nd the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in array against Gibeah, as at the other times.

Subiendo entonces los hijos de Israel contra los hijos de Benjamín el tercer día, ordenaron la batalla delante de Guibeá, como las otras veces.

31 A nd the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city, and began to smite of the people, slaying as at the former times, in the highways, of which one leads to Bethel and the other to Gibeah in the field, about thirty men of Israel.

Y salieron los hijos de Benjamín al encuentro del pueblo, alejándose de la ciudad; y comenzaron a herir a algunos del pueblo, matándolos como las otras veces por los caminos, uno de los cuales sube a Betel, y el otro a Guibeá en el campo; y mataron a unos treinta hombres de Israel.

32 A nd the children of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us, as at the first. And the children of Israel said, Let us flee, that we may draw them from the city to the highways.

Y los hijos de Benjamín decían: Vencidos son delante de nosotros, como antes. Mas los hijos de Israel decían: Huiremos, y los alejaremos de la ciudad hasta los caminos.

33 A nd all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in array at Baal-Tamar; and the ambush of Israel rushed forth out of their place, out of the meadows of Geba.

Entonces se levantaron todos los de Israel de su lugar, y se pusieron en orden de batalla en Baal-tamar; y también los emboscados de Israel salieron de su lugar, de la pradera de Guibeá.

34 A nd there came from opposite Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was severe; but they knew not that disaster was coming upon them.

Y vinieron contra Guibeá diez mil hombres escogidos de todo Israel, y la batalla arreciaba; mas ellos no sabían que ya el desastre se acercaba a ellos.

35 A nd Jehovah smote Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of the Benjaminites that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men: all these drew the sword.

Y derrotó Jehová a Benjamín delante de Israel; y mataron los hijos de Israel aquel día a veinticinco mil cien hombres de Benjamín, todos los cuales sacaban espada.

36 A nd the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten.—And the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted to the ambush that they had set against Gibeah.

Y vieron los hijos de Benjamín que eran derrotados; y los hijos de Israel cedieron campo a Benjamín, porque estaban confiados en las emboscadas que habían puesto detrás de Guibeá.

37 A nd the ambush hasted, and fell upon Gibeah; and the ambush drew along, and smote the whole city with the edge of the sword.

Y los hombres de las emboscadas acometieron prontamente a Guibeá, y avanzaron e hirieron a filo de espada a toda la ciudad.

38 N ow there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the ambush, that they should make a thick column of smoke rise up out of the city.

Y era la señal concertada entre los hombres de Israel y las emboscadas, que hiciesen subir una gran humareda de la ciudad.

39 A nd when the men of Israel turned back in the battle, Benjamin began to smite, slaying of the men of Israel about thirty men; for they said, Surely they are quite routed before us as in the first battle.

Luego, pues, que los de Israel retrocedieron en la batalla, los de Benjamín comenzaron a herir y matar a la gente de Israel como treinta hombres, y ya decían: Ciertamente ellos han caído delante de nosotros, como en la primera batalla.

40 A nd when the burning began to rise up out of the city as a pillar of smoke, Benjamin looked behind, and behold, the whole city ascended to the heavens.

Mas cuando la columna de humo comenzó a subir de la ciudad, los de Benjamín miraron hacia atrás; y he aquí que el humo de la ciudad subía al cielo.

41 T hen the men of Israel turned back, and the men of Benjamin were amazed, for they saw that disaster was come upon them.

Entonces se volvieron los hombres de Israel, y los de Benjamín se llenaron de temor, porque vieron que el desastre había venido sobre ellos.

42 A nd they turned before the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in their midst.

Volvieron, por tanto, la espalda delante de Israel hacia el camino del desierto; pero la batalla los alcanzó, y los que salían de las ciudades los destruían en medio de ellos.

43 T hey encompassed the Benjaminites, chased them, trode them down at the resting-place over against Gibeah toward the sun-rising.

Así cercaron a los de Benjamín, y los acosaron y hollaron desde Menuhá hasta enfrente de Guibeá hacia donde nace el sol.

44 A nd there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men: all these, men of valour.

Y cayeron de Benjamín dieciocho mil hombres, todos ellos hombres de guerra.

45 A nd they turned and fled towards the wilderness to the cliff of Rimmon, and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men; and pursued hard after them to Gidom, and slew two thousand men of them.

Volviéndose luego, huyeron hacia el desierto, a la peña de Rimón, y de ellos fueron abatidos cinco mil hombres en los caminos; y fueron persiguiéndolos aún hasta Gidom, y mataron de ellos a dos mil hombres.

46 S o that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men that drew the sword: all these, men of valour.

Fueron todos los que de Benjamín murieron aquel día, veinticinco mil hombres que sacaban espada, todos ellos hombres de guerra.

47 A nd six hundred men turned and fled to the wilderness to the cliff of Rimmon, and abode at the cliff of Rimmon four months.

Pero se volvieron y huyeron al desierto a la peña de Rimón seiscientos hombres, los cuales estuvieron en la peña de Rimón cuatro meses.

48 A nd the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, as well the men of city as the cattle, and all that was found; even all the cities that were found did they set on fire.

Y los hombres de Israel volvieron sobre los hijos de Benjamín, y los hirieron a filo de espada, así a los hombres de cada ciudad como a las bestias y todo lo que fue hallado; asimismo pusieron fuego a todas las ciudades que hallaban.
