1 S o all the children of Israel came out, from Dan to Beersheba, as well as from the land of Gilead, and the congregation gathered together as one man before the Lord at Mizpah.

Entonces salieron todos los hijos de Israel, y se reunió la congregación como un solo hombre, desde Dan hasta Beerseba y la tierra de Galaad, a Jehová en Mizpá.

2 A nd the leaders of all the people, all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand foot soldiers who drew the sword.

Y los jefes de todo el pueblo, de todas las tribus de Israel, se hallaron presentes en la reunión del pueblo de Dios, cuatrocientos mil hombres de a pie que sacaban espada.

3 ( Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) Then the children of Israel said, “Tell us, how did this wicked deed happen?”

Y los hijos de Benjamín oyeron que los hijos de Israel habían subido a Mizpá. Y dijeron los hijos de Israel: Decid cómo fue esta maldad.

4 S o the Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered and said, “My concubine and I went into Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin, to spend the night.

Entonces el varón levita, marido de la mujer muerta, respondió y dijo: Yo llegué a Guibeá de Benjamín con mi concubina, para pasar allí la noche.

5 A nd the men of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house at night because of me. They intended to kill me, but instead they ravished my concubine so that she died.

Y levantándose contra mí los de Guibeá, rodearon contra mí la casa por la noche, con idea de matarme, y a mi concubina la humillaron de tal manera que murió.

6 S o I took hold of my concubine, cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the territory of the inheritance of Israel, because they committed lewdness and outrage in Israel.

Entonces, tomando yo a mi concubina, la corté en pedazos, y la envié por todo el territorio de la posesión de Israel, por cuanto han hecho maldad y crimen en Israel.

7 L ook! All of you are children of Israel; give your advice and counsel here and now!”

He aquí, todos vosotros sois hijos de Israel; dad aquí vuestro parecer y consejo.

8 S o all the people arose as one man, saying, “None of us will go to his tent, nor will any turn back to his house;

Entonces todo el pueblo, como un solo hombre, se levantó, y dijeron: Ninguno de nosotros irá a su tienda, ni volverá ninguno de nosotros a su casa.

9 b ut now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: We will go up against it by lot.

Mas esto es ahora lo que haremos a Guibeá: contra ella subiremos por sorteo.

10 W e will take ten men out of every hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to make provisions for the people, that when they come to Gibeah in Benjamin, they may repay all the vileness that they have done in Israel.”

Tomaremos diez hombres de cada ciento por todas las tribus de Israel, y ciento de cada mil, y mil de cada diez mil, que lleven víveres para el pueblo, para que yendo a Guibeá de Benjamín le hagan conforme a toda la abominación que ha cometido en Israel.

11 S o all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, united together as one man.

Y se juntaron todos los hombres de Israel contra la ciudad, coaligados como un solo hombre. Obstinación de los benjaminitas

12 T hen the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What is this wickedness that has occurred among you?

Y las tribus de Israel enviaron varones por toda la tribu de Benjamín, diciendo: ¿Qué maldad es ésta que ha sido hecha entre vosotros?

13 N ow therefore, deliver up the men, the perverted men who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and remove the evil from Israel!” But the children of Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brethren, the children of Israel.

Entregad, pues, ahora a aquellos hombres perversos que están en Guibeá, para que los matemos, y quitemos el mal de Israel. Mas los de Benjamín no quisieron oír la voz de sus hermanos los hijos de Israel,

14 I nstead, the children of Benjamin gathered together from their cities to Gibeah, to go to battle against the children of Israel.

sino que los de Benjamín se juntaron de sus ciudades en Guibeá, para pelear contra los hijos de Israel. Primeros combates

15 A nd from their cities at that time the children of Benjamin numbered twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who numbered seven hundred select men.

Y fueron contados en aquel tiempo los hijos de Benjamín de las ciudades, veintiséis mil hombres que sacaban espada, sin contar los habitantes de Guibeá, que fueron por cuenta setecientos hombres escogidos.

16 A mong all this people were seven hundred select men who were left-handed; every one could sling a stone at a hair’s breadth and not miss.

De toda aquella gente había setecientos hombres escogidos, que eran ambidextros, todos los cuales tiraban una piedra con la honda a un cabello, y no erraban.

17 N ow besides Benjamin, the men of Israel numbered four hundred thousand men who drew the sword; all of these were men of war.

Y fueron contados los varones de Israel, fuera de Benjamín, cuatrocientos mil hombres que sacaban espada, todos éstos hombres de guerra.

18 T hen the children of Israel arose and went up to the house of God to inquire of God. They said, “Which of us shall go up first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” The Lord said, “Judah first!”

Luego se levantaron los hijos de Israel, y subieron a la casa de Dios y consultaron a Dios, diciendo: ¿Quién subirá de nosotros el primero en la guerra contra los hijos de Benjamín? Y Jehová respondió: Judá será el primero.

19 S o the children of Israel rose in the morning and encamped against Gibeah.

Se levantaron, pues, los hijos de Israel por la mañana, contra Guibeá.

20 A nd the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin, and the men of Israel put themselves in battle array to fight against them at Gibeah.

Y salieron los hijos de Israel a combatir contra Benjamín, y los varones de Israel ordenaron la batalla contra ellos junto a Guibeá.

21 T hen the children of Benjamin came out of Gibeah, and on that day cut down to the ground twenty-two thousand men of the Israelites.

Saliendo entonces de Guibeá los hijos de Benjamín, derribaron por tierra aquel día veintidós mil hombres de los hijos de Israel.

22 A nd the people, that is, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves and again formed the battle line at the place where they had put themselves in array on the first day.

Mas reanimándose el pueblo, los varones de Israel volvieron a ordenar la batalla en el mismo lugar donde la habían ordenado el primer día.

23 T hen the children of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until evening, and asked counsel of the Lord, saying, “Shall I again draw near for battle against the children of my brother Benjamin?” And the Lord said, “Go up against him.”

Porque los hijos de Israel subieron y lloraron delante de Jehová hasta la noche, y consultaron a Jehová, diciendo: ¿Volveremos a pelear con los hijos de Benjamín nuestros hermanos? Y Jehová les respondió: Subid contra ellos.

24 S o the children of Israel approached the children of Benjamin on the second day.

Por lo cual se acercaron los hijos de Israel contra los hijos de Benjamín el segundo día.

25 A nd Benjamin went out against them from Gibeah on the second day, and cut down to the ground eighteen thousand more of the children of Israel; all these drew the sword.

Y aquel segundo día, saliendo Benjamín de Guibeá contra ellos, derribaron por tierra otros dieciocho mil hombres de los hijos de Israel, todos los cuales sacaban espada.

26 T hen all the children of Israel, that is, all the people, went up and came to the house of God and wept. They sat there before the Lord and fasted that day until evening; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

Entonces subieron todos los hijos de Israel, y todo el pueblo, y vinieron a la casa de Dios; y lloraron, y se sentaron allí en presencia de Jehová, y ayunaron aquel día hasta la noche; y ofrecieron holocaustos y ofrendas de paz delante de Jehová.

27 S o the children of Israel inquired of the Lord (the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,

Y los hijos de Israel preguntaron a Jehová (pues el arca del pacto de Dios estaba allí en aquellos días,

28 a nd Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, “Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of my brother Benjamin, or shall I cease?” And the Lord said, “Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand.”

y Fineés hijo de Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, ministraba delante de ella en aquellos días), y dijeron: ¿Volveremos aún a salir contra los hijos de Benjamín nuestros hermanos, para pelear, o desistiremos? Y Jehová dijo: Subid, porque mañana yo os los entregaré.

29 T hen Israel set men in ambush all around Gibeah.

Y puso Israel emboscadas alrededor de Guibeá.

30 A nd the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in battle array against Gibeah as at the other times.

Subiendo entonces los hijos de Israel contra los hijos de Benjamín el tercer día, ordenaron la batalla delante de Guibeá, como las otras veces.

31 S o the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city. They began to strike down and kill some of the people, as at the other times, in the highways (one of which goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah) and in the field, about thirty men of Israel.

Y salieron los hijos de Benjamín al encuentro del pueblo, alejándose de la ciudad; y comenzaron a herir a algunos del pueblo, matándolos como las otras veces por los caminos, uno de los cuales sube a Betel, y el otro a Guibeá en el campo; y mataron a unos treinta hombres de Israel.

32 A nd the children of Benjamin said, “They are defeated before us, as at first.” But the children of Israel said, “Let us flee and draw them away from the city to the highways.”

Y los hijos de Benjamín decían: Vencidos son delante de nosotros, como antes. Mas los hijos de Israel decían: Huiremos, y los alejaremos de la ciudad hasta los caminos.

33 S o all the men of Israel rose from their place and put themselves in battle array at Baal Tamar. Then Israel’s men in ambush burst forth from their position in the plain of Geba.

Entonces se levantaron todos los de Israel de su lugar, y se pusieron en orden de batalla en Baal-tamar; y también los emboscados de Israel salieron de su lugar, de la pradera de Guibeá.

34 A nd ten thousand select men from all Israel came against Gibeah, and the battle was fierce. But the Benjamites did not know that disaster was upon them.

Y vinieron contra Guibeá diez mil hombres escogidos de todo Israel, y la batalla arreciaba; mas ellos no sabían que ya el desastre se acercaba a ellos.

35 T he Lord defeated Benjamin before Israel. And the children of Israel destroyed that day twenty-five thousand one hundred Benjamites; all these drew the sword.

Y derrotó Jehová a Benjamín delante de Israel; y mataron los hijos de Israel aquel día a veinticinco mil cien hombres de Benjamín, todos los cuales sacaban espada.

36 S o the children of Benjamin saw that they were defeated. The men of Israel had given ground to the Benjamites, because they relied on the men in ambush whom they had set against Gibeah.

Y vieron los hijos de Benjamín que eran derrotados; y los hijos de Israel cedieron campo a Benjamín, porque estaban confiados en las emboscadas que habían puesto detrás de Guibeá.

37 A nd the men in ambush quickly rushed upon Gibeah; the men in ambush spread out and struck the whole city with the edge of the sword.

Y los hombres de las emboscadas acometieron prontamente a Guibeá, y avanzaron e hirieron a filo de espada a toda la ciudad.

38 N ow the appointed signal between the men of Israel and the men in ambush was that they would make a great cloud of smoke rise up from the city,

Y era la señal concertada entre los hombres de Israel y las emboscadas, que hiciesen subir una gran humareda de la ciudad.

39 w hereupon the men of Israel would turn in battle. Now Benjamin had begun to strike and kill about thirty of the men of Israel. For they said, “Surely they are defeated before us, as in the first battle.”

Luego, pues, que los de Israel retrocedieron en la batalla, los de Benjamín comenzaron a herir y matar a la gente de Israel como treinta hombres, y ya decían: Ciertamente ellos han caído delante de nosotros, como en la primera batalla.

40 B ut when the cloud began to rise from the city in a column of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and there was the whole city going up in smoke to heaven.

Mas cuando la columna de humo comenzó a subir de la ciudad, los de Benjamín miraron hacia atrás; y he aquí que el humo de la ciudad subía al cielo.

41 A nd when the men of Israel turned back, the men of Benjamin panicked, for they saw that disaster had come upon them.

Entonces se volvieron los hombres de Israel, y los de Benjamín se llenaron de temor, porque vieron que el desastre había venido sobre ellos.

42 T herefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel in the direction of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them, and whoever came out of the cities they destroyed in their midst.

Volvieron, por tanto, la espalda delante de Israel hacia el camino del desierto; pero la batalla los alcanzó, y los que salían de las ciudades los destruían en medio de ellos.

43 T hey surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and easily trampled them down as far as the front of Gibeah toward the east.

Así cercaron a los de Benjamín, y los acosaron y hollaron desde Menuhá hasta enfrente de Guibeá hacia donde nace el sol.

44 A nd eighteen thousand men of Benjamin fell; all these were men of valor.

Y cayeron de Benjamín dieciocho mil hombres, todos ellos hombres de guerra.

45 T hen they turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon; and they cut down five thousand of them on the highways. Then they pursued them relentlessly up to Gidom, and killed two thousand of them.

Volviéndose luego, huyeron hacia el desierto, a la peña de Rimón, y de ellos fueron abatidos cinco mil hombres en los caminos; y fueron persiguiéndolos aún hasta Gidom, y mataron de ellos a dos mil hombres.

46 S o all who fell of Benjamin that day were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword; all these were men of valor.

Fueron todos los que de Benjamín murieron aquel día, veinticinco mil hombres que sacaban espada, todos ellos hombres de guerra.

47 B ut six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and they stayed at the rock of Rimmon for four months.

Pero se volvieron y huyeron al desierto a la peña de Rimón seiscientos hombres, los cuales estuvieron en la peña de Rimón cuatro meses.

48 A nd the men of Israel turned back against the children of Benjamin, and struck them down with the edge of the sword—from every city, men and beasts, all who were found. They also set fire to all the cities they came to.

Y los hombres de Israel volvieron sobre los hijos de Benjamín, y los hirieron a filo de espada, así a los hombres de cada ciudad como a las bestias y todo lo que fue hallado; asimismo pusieron fuego a todas las ciudades que hallaban.
