1 “ Call out now; Is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn?

Ahora, pues, da voces; ¿habrá quien te responda? ¿Y a cuál de los santos ángeles te volverás?

2 F or wrath kills a foolish man, And envy slays a simple one.

Es cierto que al necio lo mata el enojo, Y al imprudente lo consume la indignación.

3 I have seen the foolish taking root, But suddenly I cursed his dwelling place.

Yo he visto al necio que echaba raíces, Y en la misma hora vi maldita su morada.

4 H is sons are far from safety, They are crushed in the gate, And there is no deliverer.

Sus hijos estarán lejos de la seguridad; En la puerta serán quebrantados, Y no habrá quien los libre.

Su mies se la comerán los hambrientos, Y la sacarán de entre los espinos, Y los sedientos se sorberán su hacienda.

6 F or affliction does not come from the dust, Nor does trouble spring from the ground;

Porque la aflicción no sale del polvo, Ni brota de la tierra la molestia;

7 Y et man is born to trouble, As the sparks fly upward.

Sino que, como las chispas se levantan para volar por el aire, Así el hombre engendra su propia aflicción.

8 “ But as for me, I would seek God, And to God I would commit my cause—

Ciertamente yo en tu lugar buscaría a Dios, Y encomendaría a él mi causa;

9 W ho does great things, and unsearchable, Marvelous things without number.

El cual hace prodigios grandes e inescrutables, Y maravillas sinnúmero;

10 H e gives rain on the earth, And sends waters on the fields.

Que derrama la lluvia sobre la faz de la tierra, Y envía las aguas sobre los campos;

11 H e sets on high those who are lowly, And those who mourn are lifted to safety.

Que pone a los humildes en altura, Y a los enlutados levanta a prosperidad;

12 H e frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans.

Que frustra los pensamientos de los astutos, Para que sus manejos no prosperen;

13 H e catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them.

Que prende a los sabios en la astucia de ellos, Y frustra los designios de los perversos.

14 T hey meet with darkness in the daytime, And grope at noontime as in the night.

En pleno día tropiezan con tinieblas, Y a mediodía andan a tientas como de noche.

15 B ut He saves the needy from the sword, From the mouth of the mighty, And from their hand.

Así libra de la lengua afilada al pobre, de la boca de los impíos, Y de la mano violenta;

16 S o the poor have hope, And injustice shuts her mouth.

Pues da esperanza al desvalido, Y la iniquidad cerrará su boca.

17 “ Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.

He aquí, bienaventurado es el hombre a quien Dios corrige; Por tanto, no menosprecies la corrección del Todopoderoso.

18 F or He bruises, but He binds up; He wounds, but His hands make whole.

Porque él es quien hace la herida, y él la vendará; Él hiere, y sus manos curan.

19 H e shall deliver you in six troubles, Yes, in seven no evil shall touch you.

En seis tribulaciones te librará, Y aun en la séptima no te tocará el mal.

20 I n famine He shall redeem you from death, And in war from the power of the sword.

En el hambre te salvará de la muerte, Y en la guerra, del poder de la espada.

21 Y ou shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, And you shall not be afraid of destruction when it comes.

Del azote de la lengua estarás al abrigo; No temerás la destrucción cuando venga.

22 Y ou shall laugh at destruction and famine, And you shall not be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

De la destrucción y del hambre te reirás, Y no temerás a las fieras del campo;

23 F or you shall have a covenant with the stones of the field, And the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.

Pues aun con las piedras del campo tendrás tu pacto, Y las fieras del campo estarán en paz contigo.

24 Y ou shall know that your tent is in peace; You shall visit your dwelling and find nothing amiss.

Sabrás que hay paz en tu tienda; Visitarás tu morada, y nada echarás de menos.

25 Y ou shall also know that your descendants shall be many, And your offspring like the grass of the earth.

Asimismo verás que tu descendencia es numerosa, Y tu prole como la hierba de la tierra.

26 Y ou shall come to the grave at a full age, As a sheaf of grain ripens in its season.

Bajarás al sepulcro en buena vejez, Como la gavilla de trigo que se recoge en sazón.

27 B ehold, this we have searched out; It is true. Hear it, and know for yourself.”

He aquí lo que hemos indagado y es cierto; Escúchalo y aplícatelo para tu provecho.
