1 T hese are the heads of their fathers’ houses, and this is the genealogy of those who went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of King Artaxerxes:

11 o f the sons of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai, and with him twenty-eight males;

12 o f the sons of Azgad, Johanan the son of Hakkatan, and with him one hundred and ten males;

13 o f the last sons of Adonikam, whose names are these—Eliphelet, Jeiel, and Shemaiah—and with them sixty males;

De los hijos de Adonicam, los postreros, cuyos nombres son estos: Elifélet, Jeiel y Semaías, y con ellos sesenta varones.

14 a lso of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zabbud, and with them seventy males. Servants for the Temple

Y de los hijos de Bigvay, Utay y Zabud, y con ellos sesenta varones.

15 N ow I gathered them by the river that flows to Ahava, and we camped there three days. And I looked among the people and the priests, and found none of the sons of Levi there.

Los reuní junto al río que viene a Ahavá, y acampamos allí tres días; y habiendo buscado entre el pueblo y entre los sacerdotes, no hallé allí de los hijos de Leví.

16 T hen I sent for Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam, leaders; also for Joiarib and Elnathan, men of understanding.

Entonces despaché a Eliezer, Ariel, Semaías, Elnatán, Jarib, Elnatán, Natán, Zacarías y Mesulam, hombres principales, asimismo a Joyarib y a Elnatán, hombres prudentes;

17 A nd I gave them a command for Iddo the chief man at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say to Iddo and his brethren the Nethinim at the place Casiphia—that they should bring us servants for the house of our God.

y los envié a Iddó, jefe en el lugar llamado Casifía, y puse en boca de ellos las palabras que habían de hablar a Iddó, y a sus hermanos los sirvientes del templo en el lugar llamado Casifía, para que nos trajesen ministros para la casa de nuestro Dios.

18 T hen, by the good hand of our God upon us, they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli the son of Levi, the son of Israel, namely Sherebiah, with his sons and brothers, eighteen men;

Y nos trajeron según la buena mano de nuestro Dios sobre nosotros, un varón entendido, de los hijos de Mahlí hijo de Leví, hijo de Israel; a Serebías con sus hijos y sus hermanos, dieciocho;

19 a nd Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brothers and their sons, twenty men;

20 a lso of the Nethinim, whom David and the leaders had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinim. All of them were designated by name. Fasting and Prayer for Protection

21 T hen I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions.

Y publiqué ayuno allí junto al río Ahavá, para afligirnos delante de nuestro Dios, para solicitar de él un feliz viaje para nosotros, y para nuestros niños, y para todos nuestros bienes.

22 F or I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him.”

Porque tuve vergüenza de pedir al rey tropa y gente de a caballo que nos defendiesen del enemigo en el camino; porque habíamos hablado al rey, diciendo: La mano de nuestro Dios es para bien sobre todos los que le buscan; mas su poder y su furor contra todos los que le abandonan.

23 S o we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He answered our prayer. Gifts for the Temple

Ayunamos, pues, y pedimos a nuestro Dios sobre esto, y él nos fue propicio.

24 A nd I separated twelve of the leaders of the priests—Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them—

Aparté luego a doce de los principales de los sacerdotes, a Serebías y a Hasabías, y con ellos diez de sus hermanos;

25 a nd weighed out to them the silver, the gold, and the articles, the offering for the house of our God which the king and his counselors and his princes, and all Israel who were present, had offered.

y les pesé la plata, el oro y los utensilios, ofrenda que para la casa de nuestro Dios habían ofrecido el rey y sus consejeros y sus príncipes, y todo Israel allí presente.

26 I weighed into their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, silver articles weighing one hundred talents, one hundred talents of gold,

Pesé, pues, en manos de ellos seiscientos cincuenta talentos de plata, y utensilios de plata por cien talentos, y cien talentos de oro;

27 t wenty gold basins worth a thousand drachmas, and two vessels of fine polished bronze, precious as gold.

además, veinte tazones de oro de mil dracmas, y dos vasos de bronce bruñido muy bueno, preciados como el oro.

28 A nd I said to them, “You are holy to the Lord; the articles are holy also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the Lord God of your fathers.

Y les dije: Vosotros estáis consagrados a Jehová, y son santos los utensilios, y la plata y el oro, ofrenda voluntaria a Jehová Dios de nuestros padres.

29 W atch and keep them until you weigh them before the leaders of the priests and the Levites and heads of the fathers’ houses of Israel in Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the Lord.”

Vigilad y guardadlos, hasta que los peséis delante de los príncipes de los sacerdotes y levitas, y de los jefes de las casas paternas de Israel en Jerusalén, en los aposentos de la casa de Jehová.

30 S o the priests and the Levites received the silver and the gold and the articles by weight, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God. The Return to Jerusalem

Los sacerdotes y los levitas recibieron el peso de la plata y del oro y de los utensilios, para traerlo a Jerusalén a la casa de nuestro Dios.

31 T hen we departed from the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem. And the hand of our God was upon us, and He delivered us from the hand of the enemy and from ambush along the road.

Y partimos del río Ahavá el doce del mes primero, para ir a Jerusalén; y la mano de nuestro Dios estaba sobre nosotros, y nos libró de manos del enemigo y del asechador en el camino.

32 S o we came to Jerusalem, and stayed there three days.

Y llegamos a Jerusalén, y reposamos allí tres días.

33 N ow on the fourth day the silver and the gold and the articles were weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest, and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; with them were the Levites, Jozabad the son of Jeshua and Noadiah the son of Binnui,

Al cuarto día fue luego pesada la plata, el oro y los utensilios, en la casa de nuestro Dios, por mano del sacerdote Meremot, hijo de Urías, y con él Eleazar, hijo de Fineés; y con ellos Jozabad, hijo de Jesúa, y Pliadías, hijo de Binuy, levitas.

34 w ith the number and weight of everything. All the weight was written down at that time.

Por cuenta y por peso se entregó todo, y se apuntó todo aquel peso en aquel tiempo.

35 T he children of those who had been carried away captive, who had come from the captivity, offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel: twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and twelve male goats as a sin offering. All this was a burnt offering to the Lord.

Los hijos de la cautividad, los que habían venido del cautiverio, ofrecieron holocaustos al Dios de Israel, doce becerros por todo Israel, noventa y seis carneros, setenta y siete corderos, y doce machos cabríos por expiación, todo en holocausto a Jehová.

36 A nd they delivered the king’s orders to the king’s satraps and the governors in the region beyond the River. So they gave support to the people and the house of God.

Y entregaron los despachos del rey a sus sátrapas y capitanes del otro lado del río, los cuales ayudaron al pueblo y a la casa de Dios.
