1 O r do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?

¿Acaso ignoráis, hermanos (pues hablo a los que conocen la ley), que la ley se enseñorea del hombre entretanto que éste vive?

2 F or the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.

Porque la mujer casada está sujeta por la ley al marido mientras éste vive; pero si el marido muere, ella queda libre de la ley del marido.

3 S o then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.

Así que, si en vida del marido se une a otro varón, será llamada adúltera; pero si su marido muere, es libre de esa ley, de tal manera que si se une a otro marido, no será adúltera.

4 T herefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.

Así que, hermanos míos, también vosotros habéis muerto a la ley mediante el cuerpo de Cristo, para que seáis de otro, del que resucitó de los muertos, a fin de que llevemos fruto para Dios.

5 F or when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.

Porque mientras estábamos en la carne, las pasiones pecaminosas despertadas por la ley, actuaban en nuestros miembros llevando fruto para muerte.

6 B ut now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. Sin’s Advantage in the Law

Pero ahora estamos libres de la ley, por haber muerto para aquella en que estábamos sujetos, de modo que sirvamos bajo el régimen nuevo del Espíritu y no bajo el régimen viejo de la letra. El pecado que está en mí

7 W hat shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”

¿Qué diremos, pues? ¿Es la ley pecado? ¡En ninguna manera! Pero yo no conocí el pecado sino por la ley; porque tampoco habría sabido lo que es la concupiscencia, si la ley no dijera: No codiciarás.

8 B ut sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead.

Mas el pecado, tomando ocasión por medio del mandamiento, produjo en mí toda clase de concupiscencia; porque sin la ley el pecado está muerto.

9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.

Y yo vivía en un tiempo sin la ley; pero venido el mandamiento, el pecado revivió y yo morí.

10 A nd the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death.

Y hallé que el mismo mandamiento que era para vida, a mí me resultó para muerte;

11 F or sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.

porque el pecado, tomando ocasión por medio del mandamiento, me engañó, y mediante él me mató.

12 T herefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good. Law Cannot Save from Sin

De manera que la ley a la verdad es santa, y el mandamiento santo, justo y bueno.

13 H as then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.

¿Luego lo que es bueno, vino a ser muerte para mí? ¡En ninguna manera!, sino que el pecado, para mostrarse pecado, produjo en mí la muerte por medio de lo que es bueno, a fin de que por el mandamiento el pecado llegase al extremo de la pecaminosidad.

14 F or we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Porque sabemos que la ley es espiritual; mas yo soy carnal, vendido al poder del pecado.

15 F or what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.

Porque no comprendo mi proceder; pues no pongo por obra lo que quiero, sino que lo que aborrezco, eso es lo que hago.

16 I f, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good.

Y si lo que no quiero, eso es lo que hago, estoy de acuerdo con la ley, de que es buena.

17 B ut now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

De manera que ya no soy yo quien obra aquello, sino el pecado que mora en mí.

18 F or I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.

Porque yo sé que en mí, esto es, en mi carne, no mora el bien; porque el querer el bien lo tengo a mi alcance, pero no el hacerlo.

19 F or the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.

Porque no hago el bien que quiero, sino el mal que no quiero, eso es lo que pongo por obra.

20 N ow if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

Y si lo que no quiero, eso es lo que hago, ya no lo obro yo, sino el pecado que mora en mí.

21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.

Encuentro, pues, esta ley: Que, queriendo yo hacer el bien, el mal está presente en mí.

22 F or I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.

Porque según el hombre interior, me deleito en la ley de Dios;

23 B ut I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

pero veo otra ley en mis miembros, que hace guerra contra la ley de mi mente, y que me lleva cautivo a la ley del pecado que está en mis miembros.

24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

¡Miserable hombre de mí!; ¿quién me libertará de este cuerpo de muerte?

25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

Gracias doy a Dios, por medio de Jesucristo nuestro Señor. Así que, yo mismo con la mente sirvo a la ley de Dios, mas con la carne a la ley del pecado.
