1 A nd David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish someday by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape to the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me anymore in any part of Israel. So I shall escape out of his hand.”

Dijo luego David en su corazón: Al fin seré muerto algún día por la mano de Saúl; nada, por tanto, me será mejor que fugarme a la tierra de los filisteos, para que Saúl no se ocupe de mí, y no me ande buscando más por todo el territorio de Israel; y así escaparé de su mano.

2 T hen David arose and went over with the six hundred men who were with him to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

Se levantó, pues, David, y con los seiscientos hombres que tenía consigo se pasó a Aquís hijo de Maoc, rey de Gat.

3 S o David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, each man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s widow.

Y moró David con Aquís en Gat, él y sus hombres, cada uno con su familia; David con sus dos mujeres, Ahinoam jizreelita y Abigail la que fue mujer de Nabal el de Carmel.

4 A nd it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath; so he sought him no more.

Y vino a Saúl la noticia de que David había huido a Gat, y no lo buscó más.

5 T hen David said to Achish, “If I have now found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?”

Y David dijo a Aquís: Si he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, séame dado lugar en alguna de las aldeas para que habite allí; pues ¿por qué ha de morar tu siervo contigo en la ciudad real?

6 S o Achish gave him Ziklag that day. Therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.

Y Aquís le dio aquel día a Siclag, por lo cual Siclag vino a ser de los reyes de Judá hasta hoy.

7 N ow the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was one full year and four months.

Fue el número de los días que David habitó en la tierra de los filisteos, un año y cuatro meses.

8 A nd David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites. For those nations were the inhabitants of the land from of old, as you go to Shur, even as far as the land of Egypt.

Y subía David con sus hombres, y hacían incursiones contra los gesuritas, los gezritas y los amalecitas, porque éstos habitaban desde hacía tiempo la tierra, desde como quien va a Shur hasta la tierra de Egipto.

9 W henever David attacked the land, he left neither man nor woman alive, but took away the sheep, the oxen, the donkeys, the camels, and the apparel, and returned and came to Achish.

Y asolaba David el país, y no dejaba con vida hombre ni mujer; y se llevaba las ovejas, las vacas, los asnos, los camellos y las ropas, y regresaba a Aquís.

10 T hen Achish would say, “Where have you made a raid today?” And David would say, “Against the southern area of Judah, or against the southern area of the Jerahmeelites, or against the southern area of the Kenites.”

Y decía Aquís: ¿Dónde habéis merodeado hoy? Y David decía: En el Négueb de Judá, y el Négueb de Jerameel, o en el Négueb de los teneos.

11 D avid would save neither man nor woman alive, to bring news to Gath, saying, “Lest they should inform on us, saying, ‘Thus David did.’” And thus was his behavior all the time he dwelt in the country of the Philistines.

Ni hombre ni mujer dejaba David con vida para que viniesen a Gat; diciendo: No sea que den aviso de nosotros y digan: Esto hizo David. Y ésta fue su costumbre todo el tiempo que moró en la tierra de los filisteos.

12 S o Achish believed David, saying, “He has made his people Israel utterly abhor him; therefore he will be my servant forever.”

Y Aquís creía a David, y decía: Él se ha hecho abominable a su pueblo de Israel, y será siempre mi siervo.
