1 “ Also in the first year of Darius the Mede, I, even I, stood up to confirm and strengthen him.)

Y yo mismo, en el año primero de Darío, el medo, estuve para animarlo y fortalecerlo. Los reyes del norte y del sur

2 A nd now I will tell you the truth: Behold, three more kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than them all; by his strength, through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece.

Y ahora yo te mostraré la verdad. He aquí que aún habrá tres reyes en Persia, y el cuarto se hará con grandes riquezas más que todos ellos; y al hacerse fuerte con sus riquezas, levantará a todos contra el reino de Grecia.

3 T hen a mighty king shall arise, who shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.

Se levantará luego un rey valiente, el cual dominará con gran poder y hará cuanto quiera.

4 A nd when he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken up and divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not among his posterity nor according to his dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom shall be uprooted, even for others besides these. Warring Kings of North and South

Pero cuando se haya engrandecido, su reino será quebrantado y repartido hacia los cuatro vientos del cielo; no a sus descendientes, ni según el dominio con que él dominó; porque su reino será dividido y pasará a otros distintos de ellos.

5 “ Also the king of the South shall become strong, as well as one of his princes; and he shall gain power over him and have dominion. His dominion shall be a great dominion.

Y se hará fuerte el rey del sur, mas uno de sus príncipes será más fuerte que él, y se hará poderoso; su dominio será grande.

6 A nd at the end of some years they shall join forces, for the daughter of the king of the South shall go to the king of the North to make an agreement; but she shall not retain the power of her authority, and neither he nor his authority shall stand; but she shall be given up, with those who brought her, and with him who begot her, and with him who strengthened her in those times.

Al cabo de algunos años harán alianza, y la hija del rey del sur vendrá al rey del norte para hacer la paz. Pero ella no podrá retener la fuerza de su brazo, ni permanecerá él, ni su brazo; porque será entregada ella y los que la habían traído, asimismo su hijo, y los que estaban de parte de ella en aquel tiempo.

7 B ut from a branch of her roots one shall arise in his place, who shall come with an army, enter the fortress of the king of the North, and deal with them and prevail.

Pero un renuevo de sus raíces se levantará sobre su trono, y vendrá con ejército y entrará en las plazas fuertes del rey del norte, y dispondrá de ellas a su arbitrio, y predominará.

8 A nd he shall also carry their gods captive to Egypt, with their princes and their precious articles of silver and gold; and he shall continue more years than the king of the North.

Y aun a los dioses de ellos, sus imágenes fundidas y sus objetos preciosos de plata y de oro, los arrebatará y se los llevará a Egipto; y por algunos años se mantendrá él lejos del rey del norte.

9 “ Also the king of the North shall come to the kingdom of the king of the South, but shall return to his own land.

Y éste entrará en el reino del rey del sur, y después se volverá a su tierra.

10 H owever his sons shall stir up strife, and assemble a multitude of great forces; and one shall certainly come and overwhelm and pass through; then he shall return to his fortress and stir up strife.

Mas sus hijos se prepararán para la guerra, y reunirán multitud de grandes ejércitos; y uno de ellos vendrá apresuradamente como una inundación, y pasará adelante; luego volverá y llevará la guerra hasta las fortalezas.

11 “ And the king of the South shall be moved with rage, and go out and fight with him, with the king of the North, who shall muster a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into the hand of his enemy.

Por lo cual se enfurecerá el rey del sur, y saldrá y peleará contra el rey del norte; éste pondrá en campaña multitud grande, pero toda aquella multitud será entregada en sus manos.

12 W hen he has taken away the multitude, his heart will be lifted up; and he will cast down tens of thousands, but he will not prevail.

Y al aniquilar él la multitud, se exaltará su corazón, y abatirá a muchos millares; mas no prevalecerá.

13 F or the king of the North will return and muster a multitude greater than the former, and shall certainly come at the end of some years with a great army and much equipment.

Y el rey del norte volverá a poner en campaña una multitud mayor que la primera, y al cabo de algunos años vendrá apresuradamente con un gran ejército y con muchas riquezas.

14 “ Now in those times many shall rise up against the king of the South. Also, violent men of your people shall exalt themselves in fulfillment of the vision, but they shall fall.

En aquellos tiempos se levantarán muchos contra el rey del sur; y hombres turbulentos de tu pueblo se levantarán para cumplir la visión, pero sucumbirán.

15 S o the king of the North shall come and build a siege mound, and take a fortified city; and the forces of the South shall not withstand him. Even his choice troops shall have no strength to resist.

Vendrá, pues, el rey del norte, y levantará baluartes, y tomará una ciudad fortificada; y las fuerzas del sur no podrán sostenerse, ni sus tropas escogidas, porque no tendrán fuerzas para resistir.

16 B ut he who comes against him shall do according to his own will, and no one shall stand against him. He shall stand in the Glorious Land with destruction in his power.

Y el que vendrá contra él le tratará a su arbitrio, y no habrá quien se le pueda enfrentar; y se establecerá en la tierra gloriosa, y la destrucción estará en su mano.

17 “ He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do. And he shall give him the daughter of women to destroy it; but she shall not stand with him, or be for him.

Concebirá luego el proyecto de poner bajo su dominación todo su reino y hacer con aquél convenios, y le dará una hija suya por mujer para destruirle; pero esto no sucederá, ni tendrá éxito.

18 A fter this he shall turn his face to the coastlands, and shall take many. But a ruler shall bring the reproach against them to an end; and with the reproach removed, he shall turn back on him.

Volverá después su rostro a las islas, y tomará muchas; mas un príncipe hará cesar la afrenta que quiso echar sobre ellas, y aun hará volver sobre él su oprobio.

19 T hen he shall turn his face toward the fortress of his own land; but he shall stumble and fall, and not be found.

Luego volverá su rostro a las fortalezas de su tierra; mas tropezará y caerá, y no será hallado ya más.

20 “ There shall arise in his place one who imposes taxes on the glorious kingdom; but within a few days he shall be destroyed, but not in anger or in battle.

Y se levantará en su lugar uno que hará pasar un cobrador de tributos por lo mejor del reino; pero en pocos días será quebrantado, aunque no en ira, ni en batalla.

21 A nd in his place shall arise a vile person, to whom they will not give the honor of royalty; but he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue.

Y le sucederá en su lugar un hombre despreciable, al cual no darán el honor de la realeza; pero vendrá de improviso y tomará el reino con intrigas.

22 W ith the force of a flood they shall be swept away from before him and be broken, and also the prince of the covenant.

Las fuerzas enemigas serán barridas delante de él como con inundación de aguas; serán del todo destruidos, junto con un príncipe del pacto.

23 A nd after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people.

Después de concertarse con él, obrará con engaño, se pondrá en marcha y saldrá vencedor con poca gente.

24 H e shall enter peaceably, even into the richest places of the province; and he shall do what his fathers have not done, nor his forefathers: he shall disperse among them the plunder, spoil, and riches; and he shall devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time.

Estando la provincia en paz y en abundancia, entrará y hará lo que no hicieron sus padres, ni los padres de sus padres; repartirá a sus soldados botín, despojos y riquezas, y formará sus designios contra las plazas fuertes; y todo esto por cierto tiempo.

25 “ He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South with a great army. And the king of the South shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand, for they shall devise plans against him.

Y despertará sus fuerzas y su ardor contra el rey del sur con gran ejército; y el rey del sur se empeñará en la guerra con un ejército grande y muy fuerte; mas no prevalecerá, porque le harán traición.

26 Y es, those who eat of the portion of his delicacies shall destroy him; his army shall be swept away, and many shall fall down slain.

Aun los que coman de sus manjares le quebrantarán; y su ejército será destruido, y caerán muchos muertos.

27 B oth these kings’ hearts shall be bent on evil, and they shall speak lies at the same table; but it shall not prosper, for the end will still be at the appointed time.

Estos dos reyes meditarán en su corazón para hacerse mal y, sentados a una misma mesa, se dirán mentiras; mas no servirá de nada, porque el plazo aún no habrá llegado.

28 W hile returning to his land with great riches, his heart shall be moved against the holy covenant; so he shall do damage and return to his own land. The Northern King’s Blasphemies

Y él volverá a su tierra con gran riqueza, y su corazón estará contra el pacto santo; hará su voluntad contra el pacto y luego se volverá a su tierra.

29 “ At the appointed time he shall return and go toward the south; but it shall not be like the former or the latter.

Al tiempo señalado volverá de nuevo al sur; mas no será la postrera venida como la primera.

30 F or ships from Cyprus shall come against him; therefore he shall be grieved, and return in rage against the holy covenant, and do damage. “So he shall return and show regard for those who forsake the holy covenant.

Porque vendrán contra él naves de Quitim, y él se desanimará; se volverá atrás, y se enojará contra el pacto santo; no se quedará inactivo, pues volverá a concertarse con los que abandonen el santo pacto.

31 A nd forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation.

Y se levantarán de su parte tropas que profanarán el santuario y la fortaleza, harán cesar el continuo sacrificio y pondrán la abominación espantosa.

32 T hose who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.

Con lisonjas seducirá a los violadores del pacto; mas el pueblo que conoce a su Dios se mantendrá firme y actuará en consecuencia.

33 A nd those of the people who understand shall instruct many; yet for many days they shall fall by sword and flame, by captivity and plundering.

Y los sabios del pueblo instruirán a muchos; mas por algunos días sucumbirán a espada y a fuego, al destierro y al despojo.

34 N ow when they fall, they shall be aided with a little help; but many shall join with them by intrigue.

Y en su caída recibirán poca ayuda; y muchos se juntarán a ellos traidoramente.

35 A nd some of those of understanding shall fall, to refine them, purify them, and make them white, until the time of the end; because it is still for the appointed time.

También algunos de los sabios caerán para ser depurados y limpiados y emblanquecidos, hasta el tiempo final, porque el plazo fijado está aún por venir.

36 “ Then the king shall do according to his own will: he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been determined shall be done.

Y el rey hará lo que quiera, y se ensoberbecerá, y se engreirá por encima de todos los dioses; y proferirá cosas inauditas contra el Dios de los dioses, y prosperará, hasta que sea colmada la ira; porque lo determinado se cumplirá.

37 H e shall regard neither the God of his fathers nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall exalt himself above them all.

No respetará ni aun al Dios de sus padres, ni al deseo de las mujeres; no respetará a dios alguno, porque sobre todos se exaltará a sí mismo.

38 B ut in their place he shall honor a god of fortresses; and a god which his fathers did not know he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and pleasant things.

Mas honrará en su lugar al dios de las fortalezas, dios que sus padres no conocieron; lo honrará con oro y plata, con piedras preciosas y con cosas de gran precio.

39 T hus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain. The Northern King’s Conquests

Con ese dios extraño combatirá las fortalezas más inexpugnables, y colmará de honores a los que le reconozcan, y les repartirá la tierra como recompensa.

40 “ At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through.

Pero al tiempo del fin, el rey del sur contenderá con él; y el rey del norte se levantará contra él como una tempestad, con carros y gente de a caballo, y muchas naves; y entrará por las tierras, las invadirá como un torrente y las pasará.

41 H e shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon.

Entrará en la tierra gloriosa, y muchos caerán; mas estas escaparán de su mano: Edom y Moab, y la mayoría de los hijos de Amón.

42 H e shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

Extenderá su mano contra las tierras, y no escapará el país de Egipto.

43 H e shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels.

Y se apoderará de los tesoros de oro y plata, y de todas las cosas preciosas de Egipto; y los de Libia y de Etiopía le seguirán.

44 B ut news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many.

Pero noticias del oriente y del norte lo atemorizarán, y saldrá con gran ira para destruir y matar a muchos.

45 A nd he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.

Y plantará las tiendas de su palacio entre los mares y el monte glorioso y santo; mas llegará a su fin, y no tendrá quien le ayude.
