1 H ear the word which the Lord speaks to you, O house of Israel.

Oíd la palabra que Jehová ha hablado sobre vosotros, oh casa de Israel.

2 T hus says the Lord: “Do not learn the way of the Gentiles; Do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven, For the Gentiles are dismayed at them.

Así dice Jehová: No aprendáis el camino de las naciones, ni de las señales del cielo tengáis temor, aunque las naciones las teman.

3 F or the customs of the peoples are futile; For one cuts a tree from the forest, The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.

Porque las costumbres de los pueblos son vanidad; porque no es más que un leño que del bosque cortaron, obra de manos de artífice con buril.

4 T hey decorate it with silver and gold; They fasten it with nails and hammers So that it will not topple.

Con plata y oro lo adornan; con clavos y martillo lo aseguran para que no se mueva.

5 T hey are upright, like a palm tree, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot go by themselves. Do not be afraid of them, For they cannot do evil, Nor can they do any good.”

Son como espantapájaros en un huerto de pepinos, y no hablan; necesitan ser llevados, porque no pueden andar. No tengáis temor de ellos, porque ni pueden hacer mal, ni para hacer bien tienen poder.

6 I nasmuch as there is none like You, O Lord (You are great, and Your name is great in might),

No hay semejante a ti, oh Jehová; grande eres tú, y grande tu nombre en poderío.

7 W ho would not fear You, O King of the nations? For this is Your rightful due. For among all the wise men of the nations, And in all their kingdoms, There is none like You.

¿Quién no te temerá, oh Rey de las naciones? Porque a ti es debido el temor; porque entre todos los sabios de las naciones y en todos sus reinos, no hay semejante a ti.

8 B ut they are altogether dull-hearted and foolish; A wooden idol is a worthless doctrine.

Todos a la par están embrutecidos y entontecidos; las vanidades por las que han sido aleccionados no son más que un leño;

9 S ilver is beaten into plates; It is brought from Tarshish, And gold from Uphaz, The work of the craftsman And of the hands of the metalsmith; Blue and purple are their clothing; They are all the work of skillful men.

plata batida de Tarsis y oro de Ufaz, obra del artífice, y de manos del orfebre; los visten de azul y de púrpura, obra de peritos es todo.

10 B ut the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.

Mas Jehová es el Dios verdadero; él es el Dios vivo y el Rey eterno; a su ira tiembla la tierra, y las naciones no pueden aguantar su indignación.

11 T hus you shall say to them: “The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens.”

Les diréis así: Los dioses que no hicieron los cielos ni la tierra, desaparecerán de la tierra y de debajo de los cielos.

12 H e has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, And has stretched out the heavens at His discretion.

El que hizo la tierra con su poder, el que puso en orden el mundo con su saber, y extendió los cielos con su entendimiento;

13 W hen He utters His voice, There is a multitude of waters in the heavens: “And He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, He brings the wind out of His treasuries.”

a su voz se produce muchedumbre de aguas en el cielo, y hace subir las nubes de lo postrero de la tierra; hace los relámpagos con la lluvia, y saca el viento de sus depósitos.

14 E veryone is dull-hearted, without knowledge; Every metalsmith is put to shame by an image; For his molded image is falsehood, And there is no breath in them.

Todo hombre se embrutece, y le falta conocimiento; se avergüenza de su ídolo todo fundidor, porque mentirosa es su obra de fundición, y no hay espíritu en ella.

15 T hey are futile, a work of errors; In the time of their punishment they shall perish.

Vanidad son, obra inútil; al tiempo de su castigo perecerán.

16 T he Portion of Jacob is not like them, For He is the Maker of all things, And Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; The Lord of hosts is His name. The Coming Captivity of Judah

No es así la porción de Jacob; porque él es el Hacedor de todo, e Israel es la tribu de su heredad; Jehová de los ejércitos es su nombre. La ruina de Judá

17 G ather up your wares from the land, O inhabitant of the fortress!

Recoge de las tierras tus mercancías, la que moras en lugar fortificado.

18 F or thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will throw out at this time The inhabitants of the land, And will distress them, That they may find it so. ”

Porque así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí que esta vez arrojaré con honda a los moradores de la tierra, y los afligiré, para que lo sientan.

19 W oe is me for my hurt! My wound is severe. But I say, “Truly this is an infirmity, And I must bear it.”

¡Ay de mí, por mi quebrantamiento!; mi llaga es muy dolorosa. Pero dije: Esto no es más que una enfermedad, y debo sufrirla.

20 M y tent is plundered, And all my cords are broken; My children have gone from me, And they are no more. There is no one to pitch my tent anymore, Or set up my curtains.

Mi tienda está destruida, y todas mis cuerdas están rotas; mis hijos me han abandonado y perecieron; no hay ya más quien levante mi tienda, ni quien cuelgue mis cortinas.

21 F or the shepherds have become dull-hearted, And have not sought the Lord; Therefore they shall not prosper, And all their flocks shall be scattered.

Porque los pastores se infatuaron, y no buscaron a Jehová; por tanto, no prosperaron, y todo su ganado se esparció.

22 B ehold, the noise of the report has come, And a great commotion out of the north country, To make the cities of Judah desolate, a den of jackals.

He aquí que se oye un rumor, ya llega, y un gran alboroto de la tierra del norte, para convertir en soledad todas las ciudades de Judá, en morada de chacales.

23 O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.

Conozco, oh Jehová, que el hombre no es señor de su camino, ni del hombre que camina es el ordenar sus pasos.

24 O Lord, correct me, but with justice; Not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing.

Castígame, oh Jehová, mas con medida; no con tu furor, para que no me reduzcas a poca cosa.

25 P our out Your fury on the Gentiles, who do not know You, And on the families who do not call on Your name; For they have eaten up Jacob, Devoured him and consumed him, And made his dwelling place desolate.

Derrama tu enojo sobre los pueblos que no te conocen, y sobre los linajes que no invocan tu nombre; porque se comieron a Jacob, lo devoraron, le han consumido, y han asolado su morada.
