1 A nd when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose up and destroyed all the royal seed.

Când Atalia, mama lui Ahazia, a văzut că fiul ei a murit, a uneltit să-i omoare pe toţi urmaşii familiei regale.

2 B ut Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, the sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, him and his nurse in the bedchamber; and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.

Dar Iehoşeba, fiica regelui Iehoram şi sora lui Ahazia, l-a luat pe ascuns pe Ioaş, fiul lui Ahazia, din mijlocul fiilor regelui, înainte ca ei să fi fost ucişi şi l-a pus împreună cu doica lui într-un dormitor. Astfel ea l-a ascuns de Atalia şi el n-a fost omorât.

3 A nd he was with her hid in the house of Jehovah six years. And Athaliah reigned over the land.

Vreme de şase ani, Ioaş a rămas ascuns împreună cu doica lui în Casa Domnului, timp în care Atalia a domnit peste ţară.

4 A nd in the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains of the hundreds, of the bodyguard and the couriers, and brought them to him into the house of Jehovah, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of Jehovah, and shewed them the king's son.

5 A nd he commanded them saying, This is the thing which ye shall do: a third part of you, that come in on the sabbath, shall be keepers of the watch of the king's house;

6 a nd a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the couriers; and ye shall keep the watch of the house for a defence.

împreună cu o altă treime din voi – adică cei ce sunteţi la Poarta Sur – şi cu încă o treime din voi, – adică cei ce sunteţi la poartă, înapoia gărzilor, şi care păziţi Casa cu schimbul, –

7 A nd the two parts of you, all those that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of Jehovah about the king.

precum şi cele două cete ale voastre – adică toţi cei care ieşiţi de la slujbă în ziua de Sabat – veţi păzi Casa Domnului, unde este regele.

8 A nd ye shall encompass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he that comes within the ranks shall be put to death; and ye shall be with the king when he goes out and when he comes in.

Va trebui să staţi împrejurul regelui, fiecare om cu arma în mână. Oricine se va apropia de şirurile voastre trebuie ucis. Staţi aproape de rege când va ieşi şi când va intra!“

9 A nd the captains of the hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they took every man his men, those that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go forth on the sabbath, and they came to Jehoiada the priest.

Căpeteniile peste sute au făcut întocmai cum le-a poruncit preotul Iehoiada. Şi-au luat fiecare oamenii, atât pe cei care intrau în slujbă în ziua de Sabat, cât şi pe cei care ieşeau de la slujbă în ziua de Sabat, şi au venit la preotul Iehoiada.

10 A nd the priest gave to the captains of the hundreds king David's spears and shields which were in the house of Jehovah.

Apoi preotul le-a dat căpeteniilor peste sute suliţele şi scuturile care aparţinuseră regelui David şi care erau în Casa Domnului.

11 A nd the couriers stood by the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, toward the altar and the house.

Gărzile, fiecare cu arma în mână, s-au aşezat de jur împrejurul regelui, din partea dreaptă a Casei până în partea stângă a Casei, aproape de altar şi de Casă.

12 A nd he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, Long live the king!

Atunci Iehoiada l-a adus pe fiul regelui, i-a pus coroana pe cap şi i-a înmânat Mărturia. L-au numit rege şi l-au uns bătând din palme şi strigând: „Trăiască regele!“

13 A nd Athaliah heard the noise of the couriers of the people; and she came to the people into the house of Jehovah.

Când a auzit Atalia vuietul gărzilor şi al poporului, a venit spre mulţimea de la Casa Domnului.

14 A nd she looked, and behold, the king stood on the dais, according to the custom, and the princes and the trumpeters were by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets. And Athaliah rent her garments and cried, Conspiracy! Conspiracy!

S-a uitat şi iată că regele stătea lângă stâlp, aşa cum era obiceiul. Căpeteniile şi trâmbiţaşii erau lângă rege şi tot poporul ţării se bucura şi suna din trâmbiţe. Atunci Atalia şi-a sfâşiat hainele şi a strigat: „Trădare! Trădare!“

15 A nd Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds that were set over the host, and said to them, Lead her forth without the ranks; and whosoever follows her, slay with the sword; for the priest said, Let her not be put to death in the house of Jehovah.

Preotul Iehoiada le-a poruncit căpeteniilor peste sute, cei care conduceau oştirea, astfel: „Scoateţi-o afară dintre rânduri şi oricine o va urma să fie omorât cu sabia!“ Căci preotul zisese: „Să nu fie omorâtă în Casa Domnului!“

16 A nd they made way for her, and she went by the way by which the horses entered the king's house, and there was she put to death.

Au pus mâna pe ea în momentul în care trecea prin locul pe unde intră caii în incinta palatului regelui şi au omorât-o acolo. Domnia lui Ioaş peste Iuda

17 A nd Jehoiada made a covenant between Jehovah and the king and the people, that they should be the people of Jehovah; and between the king and the people.

Iehoiada a încheiat un legământ între Domnul, pe de o parte, şi rege şi popor, pe de altă parte, potrivit căruia ei vor fi poporul Domnului. De asemenea, a încheiat un legământ între rege şi popor.

18 T hen all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and broke it down: his altars and his images they broke in pieces completely, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of Jehovah.

Tot poporul ţării s-a dus la templul lui Baal şi l-a dărâmat. Ei au sfărâmat altarele şi chipurile, iar pe Matan, preotul lui Baal, l-au omorât în faţa altarelor. Apoi preotul a pus supraveghetori la Casa Domnului.

19 A nd he took the captains of the hundreds, and the bodyguard, and the couriers, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of Jehovah, and came by the way through the gate of the couriers into the king's house. And he sat upon the throne of the kings.

După aceea, Iehoiada a luat cu el pe căpeteniile peste sute, pe cariţi, gărzile şi tot poporul ţării. Aceştia l-au coborât împreună pe rege de la Casa Domnului şi au venit la palatul regelui pe drumul care duce prin poarta gărzilor. Regele s-a aşezat pe tronul regal.

20 A nd all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; and they had slain Athaliah with the sword the king's house.

Şi tot poporul ţării s-a bucurat, iar cetatea s-a liniştit pentru că Atalia fusese omorâtă cu sabia la palatul regelui.

21 J ehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.

Ioaş era în vârstă de şapte ani când a devenit rege.
