1 I f there arise among you a prophet, or one that dreameth dreams, and he give thee a sign or a wonder,

Dacă în mijlocul vostru se va ridica un profet sau un tălmaci de vise care vă va vesti un semn sau o minune,

2 a nd the sign or the wonder come to pass that he told unto thee, when he said, Let us go after other gods, whom thou hast not known, and let us serve them,

iar semnul sau minunea despre care v-a vorbit s-a împlinit, dacă vă va zice apoi: «Haideţi să mergem după alţi dumnezei, pe care nu îi cunoaşteţi, ca să le slujim!»,

3 — thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams; for Jehovah your God proveth you, to know whether ye love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

să nu ascultaţi de cuvintele acelui profet sau tălmaci de vise, fiindcă Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, vă încearcă ca să ştie dacă Îl iubiţi pe Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, din toată inima şi din tot sufletul vostru.

4 Y e shall walk after Jehovah your God, and ye shall fear him, and his commandments shall ye keep, and his voice shall ye hear; and ye shall serve him, and unto him shall ye cleave.

Voi să-L urmaţi pe Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, de El să vă temeţi, poruncile Lui să le păziţi, de glasul Lui să ascultaţi, Lui să-I slujiţi şi de El să vă ataşaţi.

5 A nd that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; for he hath spoken revolt against Jehovah your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage,—to draw thee out of the way that Jehovah thy God commanded thee to walk in; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.

Acel profet sau tălmaci de vise va trebui să moară, deoarece a vorbit de răzvrătire împotriva Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, Care v-a scos din ţara Egiptului şi v-a răscumpărat din casa sclaviei. El a dorit să vă abată de la calea pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, v-a poruncit s-o urmaţi. Să nimiciţi astfel răul din mijlocul vostru.

6 I f thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, who is to thee as thy soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods (whom thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

Dacă fratele tău, fiul mamei tale, sau fiul tău sau fiica ta sau soţia ta, care se odihneşte la pieptul tău sau prietenul tău, pe care îl iubeşti ca pe tine însuţi, te va stârni în secret, spunându-ţi: «Hai să mergem şi să slujim altor dumnezei», zei pe care nu i-ai cunoscut nici tu şi nici părinţii tăi,

7 o f the gods of the peoples which are round about you, near unto thee, or far from thee, from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth),

zei dintre cei ai popoarelor care sunt în jurul tău, în apropierea ta sau mai departe de tine, de la o margine la cealaltă a pământului,

8 t hou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye spare him, neither shalt thou pity him, neither shalt thou screen him,

să nu accepţi ce-ţi spune şi să nu-l asculţi, să nu-l priveşti cu compătimire şi să nu-l cruţi sau să-l ascunzi,

9 b ut thou shalt in any case kill him: thy hand shall be the first against him to put him to death, and afterwards the hands of all the people;

ci să-l omori. Tu să fii primul care se ridică împotriva lui ca să-l omoare şi apoi întregul popor.

10 a nd thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; for he hath sought to draw thee away from Jehovah thy God who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

Să-l ucizi cu pietre, deoarece a căutat să te abată de la Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, Care te-a scos din ţara Egiptului, din casa sclaviei.

11 a nd all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wicked thing as this in thy midst.

Atunci toţi israeliţii vor auzi şi se vor teme şi nimeni nu va mai face un astfel de rău în mijlocul poporului.

12 I f in one of thy cities, which Jehovah thy God hath given thee to dwell there, thou hearest, saying,

Dacă, despre o cetate pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, v-a dat-o ca să locuiţi în ea, veţi auzi vorbindu-se astfel:

13 T here are men, children of Belial, gone out from among you, and they have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, whom ye have not known;

«Nişte oameni nelegiuiţi au ieşit din mijlocul ei şi i-au înşelat pe locuitorii cetăţii, zicându-le: ‘Haideţi să slujim altor dumnezei!’», zei pe care nu-i cunoaşteţi,

14 t hen shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and if it be truth, the thing be certain, that this abomination hath happened in the midst of thee,

atunci să faceţi cercetări, să căutaţi şi să întrebaţi cu atenţie. Dacă este adevărat şi se dovedeşte că s-a săvârşit această faptă rea în mijlocul vostru,

15 t hou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, devoting it to destruction, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

atunci să-i ucideţi cu sabia pe toţi locuitorii cetăţii. Să nimiciţi prin sabie toţi oamenii şi animalele care se află în ea.

16 A nd all the spoil of it shalt thou gather into the midst of the open place thereof, and shalt burn the city with fire, and all the spoil thereof, wholly to Jehovah thy God; and it shall be a heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

Să adunaţi toate bunurile în piaţă, să ardeţi complet cetatea împreună cu toate bunurile, ca o ardere de tot înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, şi astfel să rămână pentru totdeauna o ruină, niciodată să nu se mai reconstruiască.

17 A nd thou shalt not let anything cleave to thy hand of the devoted thing; that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;

Nimic din lucrurile date spre nimicire să nu se lipească de mâinile voastre pentru ca Domnul să se întoarcă din înverşunarea mâniei Lui, să-Şi arate compasiunea şi îndurarea faţă de voi şi să vă înmulţească, după cum a promis strămoşilor voştri că va face

18 w hen thou hearkenest to the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, that thou mayest do what is right in the eyes of Jehovah thy God.

dacă veţi asculta de glasul Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, păzind toate poruncile Lui, pe care eu vi le dau astăzi şi înfăptuind ce este drept în ochii Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru.
