1 T he burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through, so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.

O profeţie cu privire la pustia de lângă mare. „Aşa cum se dezlănţuie vijelia în Neghev, tot astfel vine şi invadatorul din pustie, dintr-o ţară a terorii.

2 A grievous vision is declared unto me: the treacherous dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, Elam! besiege, Media! All the sighing thereof have I made to cease.

O viziune cumplită mi s-a arătat: trădătorul trădează, iar jefuitorul jefuieşte. Atacă, Elamule! Asediază, Medio! Tot suspinul pe care ţi l-a provocat îl voi opri.

3 T herefore are my loins filled with pain; anguish hath taken hold upon me, as the anguish of a woman in travail: I am bowed down so as not to hear, I am dismayed so as not to see.

De aceea trupul îmi este plin de durere; chinurile m-au cuprins, aşa cum o cuprind pe o femeie când naşte. Ceea ce aud, mă face să leşin, iar ceea ce văd, mă înspăimântă.

4 M y heart panteth, horror affrighteth me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into trembling unto me.

Inima mi se zbate şi, de spaimă, tremur; amurgul după care tânjeam cândva a devenit o groază pentru mine.

5 P repare the table, appoint the watch; eat, drink: arise, ye princes, anoint the shield.

Au pregătit masa, au întins păturile, mănâncă şi beau. Ridicaţi-vă, conducători, şi ungeţi-vă scuturile!

6 F or thus hath the Lord said unto me: Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

Căci astfel mi-a vorbit Stăpânul: «Du-te şi pune un străjer, care să anunţe ceea ce vede!

7 A nd he saw chariots, horsemen by pairs, a chariot with asses, a chariot with camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed.

Când va vedea un car cu o pereche de cai şi călăreţi pe măgari şi pe cămile, să asculte cu atenţie, cu mare atenţie!»

8 A nd he cried a lion, Lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights.

Străjerul a strigat: «Zi după zi, Stăpâne, stau într-un turn de pază şi, în fiecare noapte, veghez în postul meu.

9 — And behold, there cometh a chariot of men; horsemen by pairs. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

Iată că vine un călăreţ într-un car având o pereche de cai!» El a strigat din nou: «A căzut! Babilonul a căzut! Toate chipurile zeilor lui stau sfărâmate la pământ!»

10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor! What I have heard of Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.

O, poporul meu, zdrobit în aria de treierat, vă spun ce am auzit de la Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel.“

11 T he burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

O profeţie cu privire la Duma. „Cineva mă strigă din Seir: – Străjer, cât a mai rămas din noapte? Străjer, cât a mai rămas din noapte?

12 T he watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will inquire, inquire; return, come.

Străjerul răspunde: – Dimineaţa se apropie, dar apoi vine iarăşi noaptea. Dacă veţi dori să întrebaţi, întrebaţi; întoarceţi-vă, veniţi iarăşi!“

13 T he burden against Arabia. In the forest of Arabia shall ye lodge, caravans of Dedanites.

O profeţie cu privire la Arabia. „Voi, caravane ale dedaniţilor, care vă întindeţi corturile printre tufişurile Arabiei,

14 B ring ye water to meet the thirsty! The inhabitants of the land of Tema come forth with their bread for him that fleeth.

aduceţi apă celor însetaţi! Voi, locuitori din ţinutul Tema, daţi pâine fugarilor!

15 F or they flee from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.

Ei fug dinaintea săbiilor, dinaintea sabiei scoase, dinaintea arcului întins şi dinaintea unei lupte înverşunate.“

16 F or thus hath the Lord said unto me: Within a year, according to the years of a hired servant, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail;

Stăpânul mi-a vorbit astfel: „Într-un an, numărat ca anii unui simbriaş, toată gloria Chedarului se va sfârşi.

17 a nd the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the sons of Kedar, shall be diminished: for Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath spoken.

Supravieţuitorii arcaşilor, vitejii fiilor Chedarului vor fi puţini, pentru că Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, a vorbit.“
