1 A nd the whole earth had one language, and the same words.

No mundo todo havia apenas uma língua, um só modo de falar.

2 A nd it came to pass as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and dwelt there.

Saindo os homens do Oriente, encontraram uma planície em Sinear e ali se fixaram.

3 A nd they said one to another, Come on, let us make bricks, and burn thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.

Disseram uns aos outros: “Vamos fazer tijolos e queimá-los bem”. Usavam tijolos em lugar de pedras, e piche em vez de argamassa.

4 A nd they said, Come on, let us build ourselves a city and a tower, the top of which to the heavens; and let us make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth.

Depois disseram: “Vamos construir uma cidade, com uma torre que alcance os céus. Assim nosso nome será famoso e não seremos espalhados pela face da terra”.

5 A nd Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower which the children of men built.

O Senhor desceu para ver a cidade e a torre que os homens estavam construindo.

6 A nd Jehovah said, Behold, the people is one, and have all one language; and this have they begun to do. And now will they be hindered in nothing that they meditate doing.

E disse o Senhor: “Eles são um só povo e falam uma só língua, e começaram a construir isso. Em breve nada poderá impedir o que planejam fazer.

7 C ome, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

Venham, desçamos e confundamos a língua que falam, para que não entendam mais uns aos outros”.

8 A nd Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth. And they left off building the city.

Assim o Senhor os dispersou dali por toda a terra, e pararam de construir a cidade.

9 T herefore was its name called Babel; because Jehovah there confounded the language of the whole earth. And Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth.

10 T hese are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.

11 A nd Shem lived after he had begotten Arphaxad five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.

E depois de ter gerado Arfaxade, Sem viveu 500 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

12 A nd Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Shelah.

Aos 35 anos, Arfaxade gerou Salá.

13 A nd Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Shelah four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.

14 A nd Shelah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.

Aos 30 anos, Salá gerou Héber.

15 A nd Shelah lived after he had begotten Eber four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.

16 A nd Eber lived thirty-four years, and begot Peleg.

Aos 34 anos, Héber gerou Pelegue.

17 A nd Eber lived after he had begotten Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.

18 A nd Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.

Aos 30 anos, Pelegue gerou Reú.

19 A nd Peleg lived after he had begotten Reu two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.

20 A nd Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Serug.

Aos 32 anos, Reú gerou Serugue.

21 A nd Reu lived after he had begotten Serug two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.

Depois que gerou Serugue, Reú viveu 207 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

22 A nd Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.

Aos 30 anos, Serugue gerou Naor.

23 A nd Serug lived after he had begotten Nahor two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.

Depois que gerou Naor, Serugue viveu 200 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

24 A nd Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah.

Aos 29 anos, Naor gerou Terá.

25 A nd Nahor lived after he had begotten Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.

Depois que gerou Terá, Naor viveu 119 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

26 A nd Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

Aos 70 anos, Terá havia gerado Abrão, Naor e Harã.

27 A nd these are the generations of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot.

Esta é a história da família de Terá: Terá gerou Abrão, Naor e Harã. E Harã gerou Ló.

28 A nd Haran died before the face of his father Terah in the land of his nativity at Ur of the Chaldeans.

Harã morreu em Ur dos caldeus, sua terra natal, quando ainda vivia Terá, seu pai.

29 A nd Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, a daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.

Tanto Abrão como Naor casaram-se. O nome da mulher de Abrão era Sarai, e o nome da mulher de Naor era Milca; esta era filha de Harã, pai de Milca e de Iscá.

30 A nd Sarai was barren: she had no child.

Ora, Sarai era estéril; não tinha filhos.

31 A nd Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth together out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan, and came as far as Haran, and dwelt there.

Terá tomou seu filho Abrão, seu neto Ló, filho de Harã, e sua nora Sarai, mulher de seu filho Abrão, e juntos partiram de Ur dos caldeus para Canaã. Mas, ao chegarem a Harã, estabeleceram-se ali.

32 A nd the days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.

Terá viveu 205 anos e morreu em Harã.
