1 A soft answer turneth away fury; but a grievous word stirreth up anger.

2 T he tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright; but the mouth of the foolish poureth out folly.

A língua dos sábios torna atraente o conhecimento, mas a boca dos tolos derrama insensatez.

3 T he eyes of Jehovah are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Os olhos do Senhor estão em toda parte, observando atentamente os maus e os bons.

4 G entleness of tongue is a tree of life; but crookedness therein is a breaking of the spirit.

O falar amável é árvore de vida, mas o falar enganoso esmaga o espírito.

5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction; but he that regardeth reproof becometh prudent.

O insensato faz pouco caso da disciplina de seu pai, mas quem acolhe a repreensão revela prudência.

6 I n the house of a righteous is much treasure; but in the revenue of a wicked is disturbance.

A casa do justo contém grande tesouro, mas os rendimentos dos ímpios lhes trazem inquietação.

7 T he lips of the wise disperse knowledge, but not so the heart of the foolish.

As palavras dos sábios espalham conhecimento; mas o coração dos tolos não é assim.

8 T he sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah; but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

O Senhor detesta o sacrifício dos ímpios, mas a oração do justo o agrada.

9 T he way of a wicked is an abomination to Jehovah; but him that pursueth righteousness he loveth.

O Senhor detesta o caminho dos ímpios, mas ama quem busca a justiça.

10 G rievous correction is for him that forsaketh the path; he that hateth reproof shall die.

Há uma severa lição para quem abandona o seu caminho; quem despreza a repreensão morrerá.

11 S heol and destruction are before Jehovah; how much more then the hearts of the children of men!

A Sepultura e a Destruição estão abertas diante do Senhor; quanto mais os corações dos homens!

12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him; he will not go unto the wise.

O zombador não gosta de quem o corrige, nem procura a ajuda do sábio.

13 A joyful heart maketh a cheerful countenance; but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

A alegria do coração transparece no rosto, mas o coração angustiado oprime o espírito.

14 T he heart of an intelligent seeketh knowledge; but the mouth of the foolish feedeth on folly.

O coração que sabe discernir busca o conhecimento, mas a boca dos tolos alimenta-se de insensatez.

15 A ll the days of the afflicted are evil; but a cheerful heart is a continual feast.

Todos os dias do oprimido são infelizes, mas o coração bem disposto está sempre em festa.

16 B etter is little with the fear of Jehovah than great store and disquietude therewith.

É melhor ter pouco com o temor do Senhor do que grande riqueza com inquietação.

17 B etter is a meal of herbs where love is, than a fatted ox and hatred therewith.

É melhor ter verduras na refeição onde há amor do que um boi gordo acompanhado de ódio.

18 A furious man stirreth up contention; but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

O homem irritável provoca dissensão, mas quem é paciente acalma a discussão.

19 T he way of the sluggard is as a hedge of thorns; but the path of the upright is made plain.

O caminho do preguiçoso é cheio de espinhos, mas o caminho do justo é uma estrada plana.

20 A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

O filho sábio dá alegria a seu pai, mas o tolo despreza a sua mãe.

21 F olly is joy to him that is void of sense; but a man of understanding regulateth his walk.

A insensatez alegra quem não tem bom senso, mas o homem de entendimento procede com retidão.

22 W ithout counsel purposes are disappointed; but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

Os planos fracassam por falta de conselho, mas são bem-sucedidos quando há muitos conselheiros.

23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; and a word in its season, how good is it!

Dar resposta apropriada é motivo de alegria; e como é bom um conselho na hora certa!

24 T he path of life is upwards for the wise, that he may depart from Sheol beneath.

O caminho da vida conduz para cima quem é sensato, para que ele não desça à sepultura.

25 J ehovah plucketh up the house of the proud; but he establisheth the boundary of the widow.

O Senhor derruba a casa do orgulhoso, mas mantém intactos os limites da propriedade da viúva.

26 T he thoughts of the evil are an abomination to Jehovah; but pure words are pleasant.

O Senhor detesta os pensamentos dos maus, mas se agrada de palavras ditas sem maldade.

27 H e that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.

O avarento põe sua família em apuros, mas quem repudia o suborno viverá.

28 T he heart of a righteous studieth to answer; but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

O justo pensa bem antes de responder, mas a boca dos ímpios jorra o mal.

29 J ehovah is far from the wicked; but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

O Senhor está longe dos ímpios, mas ouve a oração dos justos.

30 T hat which enlighteneth the eyes rejoiceth the heart; good tidings make the bones fat.

Um olhar animador dá alegria ao coração, e as boas notícias revigoram os ossos.

31 T he ear that heareth the reproof of life shall abide among the wise.

Quem ouve a repreensão construtiva terá lugar permanente entre os sábios.

32 H e that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul; but he that heareth reproof getteth sense.

Quem recusa a disciplina faz pouco caso de si mesmo, mas quem ouve a repreensão obtém entendimento.

33 T he fear of Jehovah is the discipline of wisdom, and before honour humility.

O temor do Senhor ensina a sabedoria, e a humildade antecede a honra.
