1 A nd Job answered and said,

Então Jó respondeu:

2 H ow long will ye vex my soul, and crush me with words?

“Até quando vocês continuarão a atormentar-me, e a esmagar-me com palavras?

3 T hese ten times have ye reproached me; ye are not ashamed to stupefy me.

Vocês já me repreenderam dez vezes; não se envergonham de agredir-me!

4 A nd be it I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.

Se é verdade que me desviei, meu erro só interessa a mim.

5 I f indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and prove against me my reproach,

Se de fato vocês se exaltam acima de mim e usam contra mim a minha humilhação,

6 K now now that +God hath overthrown me, and hath surrounded me with his net.

saibam que foi Deus que me tratou mal e me envolveu em sua rede.

7 B ehold, I cry out of wrong, and I am not heard; I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.

“Se grito: É injustiça! Não obtenho resposta; clamo por socorro, todavia não há justiça.

8 H e hath hedged up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.

Ele bloqueou o meu caminho, e não consigo passar; cobriu de trevas as minhas veredas.

9 H e hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.

Despiu-me da minha honra e tirou a coroa de minha cabeça.

10 H e breaketh me down on every side, and I am gone; and my hope hath he torn up as a tree.

Ele me arrasa por todos os lados enquanto eu não me vou; desarraiga a minha esperança como se arranca uma planta.

11 A nd he hath kindled his anger against me, and hath counted me unto him as one of his enemies.

Sua ira acendeu-se contra mim; ele me vê como inimigo.

12 H is troops have come together and cast up their way against me, and have encamped round about my tent.

Suas tropas avançam poderosamente; cercam-me e acampam ao redor da minha tenda.

13 H e hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are quite estranged from me.

“Ele afastou de mim os meus irmãos; até os meus conhecidos estão longe de mim.

14 M y kinsfolk have failed, and my known friends have forgotten me.

Os meus parentes me abandonaram e os meus amigos esqueceram-se de mim.

15 T he sojourners in my house and my maids count me as a stranger; I am an alien in their sight.

Os meus hóspedes e as minhas servas consideram-me estrangeiro; vêem-me como um estranho.

16 I called my servant, and he answered not; I entreated him with my mouth.

Chamo o meu servo, mas ele não me responde, ainda que eu lhe implore pessoalmente.

17 M y breath is strange to my wife, and my entreaties to the children of my womb.

Minha mulher acha repugnante o meu hálito; meus próprios irmãos têm nojo de mim.

18 E ven young children despise me; I rise up, and they speak against me.

Até os meninos zombam de mim e dão risada quando apareço.

19 A ll my intimate friends abhor me, and they whom I loved are turned against me.

Todos os meus amigos chegados me detestam; aqueles a quem amo voltaram-se contra mim.

20 M y bones cleave to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.

Não passo de pele e ossos; escapei só com a pele dos meus dentes.

21 H ave pity upon me, have pity upon me, ye my friends; for the hand of +God hath touched me.

“Misericórdia, meus amigos! Misericórdia! Pois a mão de Deus me feriu.

22 W hy do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

Por que vocês me perseguem como Deus o faz? Nunca irão saciar-se da minha carne?

23 O h would that my words were written! oh that they were inscribed in a book!

“Quem dera as minhas palavras fossem registradas! Quem dera fossem escritas num livro,

24 T hat with an iron style and lead they were graven in the rock for ever!

fossem talhadas a ferro no chumbo, ou gravadas para sempre na rocha!

25 A nd me, I know that my Redeemer liveth, and the Last, he shall stand upon the earth;

Eu sei que o meu Redentor vive, e que no fim se levantará sobre a terra.

26 A nd after my skin this shall be destroyed, yet from out of my flesh shall I see +God;

E depois que o meu corpo estiver destruído e sem carne, verei a Deus.

27 W hom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another:—my reins are consumed within me.

Eu o verei com os meus próprios olhos; eu mesmo, e não outro! Como anseia no meu peito o coração!

28 I f ye say, How shall we persecute him? when the root of the matter is found in me,

“Se vocês disserem: ‘Vejamos como vamos persegui-lo, pois a raiz do problema está nele ’,

29 B e ye yourselves afraid of the sword! for the sword is fury against misdeeds, that ye may know there is a judgment.

melhor será que temam a espada, porquanto por meio dela a ira lhes trará castigo, e então vocês saberão que há julgamento ”.
