1 A nd these are the words of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon

Este é o conteúdo da carta que o profeta Jeremias enviou de Jerusalém aos líderes, que ainda restavam entre os exilados, aos sacerdotes, aos profetas e a todo o povo que Nabucodonosor deportara de Jerusalém para a Babilônia.

2 ( after that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the craftsmen, and the smiths, had departed from Jerusalem);

Isso aconteceu depois que o rei Joaquim e a rainha-mãe, os oficiais do palácio real, os líderes de Judá e Jerusalém, os artesãos e os artífices foram deportados de Jerusalém para a Babilônia.

3 b y the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkijah (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon, unto Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), saying,

Ele enviou a carta por intermédio de Eleasa, filho de Safã, e Gemarias, filho de Hilquias, os quais Zedequias, rei de Judá, mandou a Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia. A carta dizia o seguinte:

4 T hus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all the captivity, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon:

“Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel, a todos os exilados, que deportei de Jerusalém para a Babilônia:

5 B uild houses, and dwell in them, and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

‘Construam casas e habitem nelas; plantem jardins e comam de seus frutos.

6 T ake wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply there, and be not diminished.

Casem-se e tenham filhos e filhas; escolham mulheres para casar-se com seus filhos e dêem as suas filhas em casamento, para que também tenham filhos e filhas. Multipliquem-se e não diminuam.

7 A nd seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray unto Jehovah for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

Busquem a prosperidade da cidade para a qual eu os deportei e orem ao Senhor em favor dela, porque a prosperidade de vocês depende da prosperidade dela’.

8 F or thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Let not your prophets that are in your midst, nor your diviners deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams, which ye like to dream.

Porque assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: ‘Não deixem que os profetas e adivinhos que há no meio de vocês os enganem. Não dêem atenção aos sonhos que vocês os encorajam a terem.

9 F or they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith Jehovah.

Eles estão profetizando mentiras em meu nome. Eu não os enviei’, declara o Senhor.

10 F or thus saith Jehovah: When seventy years shall be accomplished for Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in bringing you back to this place.

“Assim diz o Senhor: ‘Quando se completarem os setenta anos da Babilônia, eu cumprirei a minha promessa em favor de vocês, de trazê-los de volta para este lugar.

11 F or I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you in your latter end a hope.

Porque sou eu que conheço os planos que tenho para vocês’, diz o Senhor, ‘planos de fazê-los prosperar e não de lhes causar dano, planos de dar-lhes esperança e um futuro.

12 A nd ye shall call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you;

Então vocês clamarão a mim, virão orar a mim, e eu os ouvirei.

13 a nd ye shall seek me and find me, for ye shall search for me with all your heart,

Vocês me procurarão e me acharão quando me procurarem de todo o coração.

14 a nd I will be found of you, saith Jehovah. And I will turn your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith Jehovah; and I will bring you again into the place whence I have caused you to be carried away captive.

Eu me deixarei ser encontrado por vocês’, declara o Senhor, ‘e os trarei de volta do cativeiro. Eu os reunirei de todas as nações e de todos os lugares para onde eu os dispersei, e os trarei de volta para o lugar de onde os deportei’, diz o Senhor.

15 I f ye say, Jehovah hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

“Vocês podem dizer: ‘O Senhor levantou profetas para nós na Babilônia’,

16 y ea, thus saith Jehovah concerning the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and concerning all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

mas assim diz o Senhor sobre o rei que se assenta no trono de Davi e sobre todo o povo que permanece nesta cidade, seus compatriotas que não foram com vocês para o exílio;

17 t hus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I will send against them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like the vile figs, that cannot be eaten for badness.

assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: ‘Enviarei a guerra, a fome e a peste contra eles; lidarei com eles como se lida com figos ruins, que são intragáveis.

18 A nd I will pursue them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will give them over to be driven hither and thither into all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an execration, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I will drive them:

Eu os perseguirei com a guerra, a fome e a peste; farei deles objeto de terror para todos os reinos da terra, maldição e exemplo, zombaria e afronta entre todas as nações para onde eu os dispersei.

19 b ecause they have not hearkened to my words, saith Jehovah, wherewith I sent unto them my servants the prophets, rising early and sending; but ye have not hearkened, saith Jehovah.

Porque eles não deram atenção às minhas palavras’, declara o Senhor, ‘palavras que lhes enviei pelos meus servos, os profetas. E vocês também não deram atenção!’, diz o Senhor.

20 B ut ye, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon, hear the word of Jehovah.

“Ouçam, agora, a palavra do Senhor, todos vocês exilados, que deportei de Jerusalém para a Babilônia!

21 T hus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy falsehood unto you in my name: Behold, I will give them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall smite them before your eyes.

Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel, a respeito de Acabe, filho de Colaías, e a respeito de Zedequias, filho de Maaséias, que estão profetizando mentiras a vocês em meu nome: ‘Eu os entregarei nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e ele os matará diante de vocês.

22 A nd of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah that are in Babylon, saying, Jehovah make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

Em razão disso, os exilados de Judá que estão na Babilônia usarão esta maldição: “Que o Senhor o trate como tratou Zedequias e Acabe, os quais o rei da Babilônia queimou vivos”.

23 b ecause they have committed infamy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken words of falsehood in my name, which I had not commanded them: and I he that knoweth, and witness, saith Jehovah.

Porque cometeram loucura em Israel: adulteraram com as mulheres de seus amigos e em meu nome falaram mentiras, que eu não ordenei que falassem. Mas eu estou sabendo; sou testemunha disso’, declara o Senhor. Mensagem a Semaías

24 A nd thou shalt speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

“Diga a Semaías, de Neelam:

25 T hus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

Diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel que você enviou cartas em seu próprio nome a todo o povo de Jerusalém, a Sofonias, filho do sacerdote Maaséias, e a todos os sacerdotes. Você disse a Sofonias:

26 J ehovah hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that there should be officers the house of Jehovah, over every madman and self-made prophet, that thou shouldest put him in the stocks and in the shackles.

‘O Senhor o designou sacerdote em lugar de Joiada como encarregado do templo do Senhor; você deveria prender no tronco, com correntes de ferro, qualquer doido que agisse como profeta.

27 A nd now, why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, who maketh himself a prophet to you?

E por que você não repreendeu Jeremias de Anatote, que se apresenta como profeta entre vocês?

28 F orasmuch as he hath sent unto us in Babylon, saying, It will be long; build houses, and dwell, and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

Ele até mandou esta mensagem para nós que estamos na Babilônia, dizendo que o exílio será longo, que construam casas e habitem nelas, plantem jardins e comam de seus frutos’”.

29 — And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of the prophet Jeremiah.

O sacerdote Sofonias leu a carta para o profeta Jeremias.

30 A nd the word of Jehovah came unto Jeremiah, saying,

Então o Senhor dirigiu a palavra a Jeremias:

31 S end to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith Jehovah concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he hath caused you to trust in falsehood;

“Envie esta mensagem a todos os exilados: Assim diz o Senhor sobre Semaías, de Neelam: Embora eu não o tenha enviado, Semaías profetizou a vocês e fez com que vocês cressem numa mentira,

32 t herefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he see the good that I will do for my people, saith Jehovah; because he hath spoken revolt against Jehovah.

por isso, assim diz o Senhor: Castigarei Semaías, de Neelam, e os seus descendentes. Não lhe restará ninguém entre este povo, e ele não verá as coisas boas que farei em favor de meu povo”, declara o Senhor, “porque ele pregou rebelião contra o Senhor ”.
