1 I n the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, came this word from Jehovah, saying,

No início do reinado de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, veio esta palavra da parte do Senhor:

2 T hus saith Jehovah: Stand in the court of Jehovah's house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in Jehovah's house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them: diminish not a word.

“Assim diz o Senhor: Coloque-se no pátio do templo do Senhor e fale a todo o povo das cidades de Judá que vem adorar no templo do Senhor. Diga-lhes tudo o que eu lhe ordenar; não omita uma só palavra.

3 P eradventure they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil which I purpose to do unto them because of the wickedness of their doings.

Talvez eles escutem e cada um se converta de sua má conduta. Então eu me arrependerei e não trarei sobre eles a desgraça que estou planejando por causa do mal que eles têm praticado.

4 A nd thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah: If ye will not hearken unto me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

Diga-lhes: Assim diz o Senhor: Se vocês não me escutarem nem seguirem a minha lei, que dei a vocês,

5 t o hearken unto the words of my servants the prophets, whom I have sent unto you, even rising early and sending, but ye have not hearkened,

e se não ouvirem as palavras dos meus servos, os profetas, os quais tenho enviado a vocês vez após vez, embora vocês não os tenham ouvido,

6 — then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

então farei deste templo o que fiz do santuário de Siló, e desta cidade, um objeto de maldição entre todas as nações da terra”.

7 A nd the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Jehovah.

Os sacerdotes, os profetas e todo o povo ouviram Jeremias falar essas palavras no templo do Senhor.

8 A nd it came to pass when Jeremiah had ended speaking all that Jehovah had commanded to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, Thou shalt certainly die.

E assim que Jeremias acabou de dizer ao povo tudo o que o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado, os sacerdotes, os profetas e todo o povo o prenderam e disseram: “Você certamente morrerá!

9 W hy hast thou prophesied in the name of Jehovah, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah.

Por que você profetiza em nome do Senhor e afirma que este templo será como Siló e que esta cidade ficará arrasada e abandonada?” E todo o povo se ajuntou em volta de Jeremias no templo do Senhor.

10 A nd the princes of Judah heard these things; and they went up from the king's house unto the house of Jehovah, and sat in the entry of the new gate of Jehovah.

Quando os líderes de Judá souberam disso, foram do palácio real até o templo do Senhor e se assentaram para julgar, à entrada da porta Nova do templo do Senhor.

11 A nd the priests and the prophets spoke unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die, for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

E os sacerdotes e os profetas disseram aos líderes e a todo o povo: “Este homem deve ser condenado à morte porque profetizou contra esta cidade. Vocês o ouviram com os seus próprios ouvidos!”

12 A nd Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and to all the people, saying, Jehovah sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.

Disse então Jeremias a todos os líderes e a todo o povo: “O Senhor enviou-me para profetizar contra este templo e contra esta cidade tudo o que vocês ouviram.

13 A nd now, amend your ways and your doings, and hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God; and Jehovah will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.

Agora, corrijam a sua conduta e as suas ações e obedeçam ao Senhor, ao seu Deus. Então o Senhor se arrependerá da desgraça que pronunciou contra vocês.

14 B ut as for me, behold, I am in your hand; do unto me as seemeth good and right in your eyes:

Quanto a mim, estou nas mãos de vocês; façam comigo o que acharem bom e certo.

15 o nly know for certain that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof; for of a truth Jehovah hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

Entretanto, estejam certos de que, se me matarem, vocês, esta cidade e os seus habitantes serão responsáveis por derramar sangue inocente, pois, na verdade, o Senhor enviou-me a vocês para anunciar-lhes essas palavras”.

16 A nd the princes and all the people said unto the priests and to the prophets, This man is not worthy to die; for he hath spoken to us in the name of Jehovah our God.

Então os líderes e todo o povo disseram aos sacerdotes e aos profetas: “Este homem não deve ser condenado à morte! Ele nos falou em nome do Senhor, do nosso Deus”.

17 A nd there rose up certain of the elders of the land and spoke to all the congregation of the people, saying,

Alguns dos líderes da terra se levantaram e disseram a toda a assembléia do povo:

18 M icah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Zion shall be ploughed a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

“Miquéias de Moresete profetizou nos dias de Ezequias, rei de Judá, dizendo a todo o povo de Judá: ‘Assim diz Senhor dos Exércitos: “‘“Sião será arada como um campo. Jerusalém se tornará um monte de entulho, a colina do templo, um monte coberto de mato’.

19 D id Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? Did he not fear Jehovah, and supplicate Jehovah, and Jehovah repented him of the evil that he had pronounced against them? And we should be doing a great evil against our souls.

“Acaso Ezequias, rei de Judá, ou alguém do povo de Judá o matou? Ezequias não temeu o Senhor e não buscou o seu favor? E o Senhor não se arrependeu da desgraça que pronunciara contra eles? Estamos a ponto de trazer uma terrível desgraça sobre nós!”

20 A nd there was also a man that prophesied in the name of Jehovah, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim: and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah;

Outro homem que profetizou em nome do Senhor foi Urias, filho de Semaías, de Quiriate-Jearim. Ele profetizou contra esta cidade e contra esta terra as mesmas coisas anunciadas por Jeremias.

21 a nd Jehoiakim the king, and all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, and the king sought to put him to death; but Urijah heard it, and he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt.

Quando o rei Jeoaquim, todos os seus homens de guerra e os seus oficiais ouviram isso, o rei procurou matá-lo. Sabendo disso, Urias teve medo e fugiu para o Egito.

22 A nd Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and men with him, into Egypt;

Mas o rei Jeoaquim mandou ao Egito Elnatã, filho de Acbor, e com ele alguns homens,

23 a nd they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him to Jehoiakim the king; and he slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the children of the people.

os quais trouxeram Urias do Egito e o levaram ao rei Jeoaquim, que o mandou matar à espada. Depois, jogaram o corpo dele numa vala comum.

24 — Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

Mas Aicam, filho de Safã, protegeu Jeremias, impedindo que ele fosse entregue ao povo para ser executado.
