1 S trive, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me; fight against them that fight against me:

Defende-me, Senhor, dos que me acusam; luta contra os que lutam comigo.

2 T ake hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help;

Toma os escudos, o grande e o pequeno; levanta-te e vem socorrer-me.

3 A nd draw out the spear, and stop against my pursuers: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

Empunha a lança e o machado de guerra contra os meus perseguidores. Dize à minha alma: “Eu sou a sua salvação”.

4 L et them be put to shame and confounded that seek after my life; let them be turned backward and brought to confusion that devise my hurt:

Sejam humilhados e desprezados os que procuram matar-me; retrocedam envergonhados aqueles que tramam a minha ruína.

5 L et them be as chaff before the wind, and let the angel of Jehovah drive away;

Que eles sejam como a palha ao vento, quando o anjo do Senhor os expulsar;

6 L et their way be dark and slippery, and let the angel of Jehovah pursue them.

seja a vereda deles sombria e escorregadia, quando o anjo do Senhor os perseguir.

7 F or without cause have they hidden for me their net a pit; without cause they have digged for my soul.

Já que, sem motivo, prepararam contra mim uma armadilha oculta e, sem motivo, abriram uma cova para mim,

8 L et destruction come upon him unawares, and let his net which he hath hidden catch himself: for destruction let him fall therein.

que a ruína lhes sobrevenha de surpresa: sejam presos pela armadilha que prepararam, caiam na cova que abriram, para a sua própria ruína.

9 A nd my soul shall be joyful in Jehovah; it shall rejoice in his salvation.

Então a minha alma exultará no Senhor e se regozijará na sua salvação.

10 A ll my bones shall say, Jehovah, who is like unto thee, who deliverest the afflicted from one stronger than he, yea, the afflicted and the needy from him that spoileth him!

Todo o meu ser exclamará: Quem se compara a ti, Senhor ? Tu livras os necessitados daqueles que são mais poderosos do que eles, livras os necessitados e os pobres daqueles que os exploram.

11 U nrighteous witnesses rise up; they lay to my charge things which I know not.

Testemunhas maldosas enfrentam-me e questionam-me sobre coisas de que nada sei.

12 T hey reward me evil for good, the bereavement of my soul.

Elas me retribuem o bem com o mal e procuram tirar-me a vida.

13 B ut as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I chastened my soul with fasting, and my prayer returned into mine own bosom:

Contudo, quando estavam doentes, usei vestes de lamento, humilhei-me com jejum e recolhi-me em oração.

14 I behaved myself as though a friend, a brother to me; I bowed down in sadness, as one that mourneth a mother.

Saí vagueando e pranteando, como por um amigo ou por um irmão. Eu me prostrei enlutado, como quem lamenta por sua mãe.

15 B ut at my halting they rejoiced, and gathered together: the slanderers gathered themselves together against me, and I knew not; they did tear, and ceased not:

Mas, quando tropecei, eles se reuniram alegres; sem que eu o soubesse, ajuntaram-se para me atacar. Eles me agrediram sem cessar.

16 W ith profane jesters for bread, they have gnashed their teeth against me.

Como ímpios caçoando do meu refúgio, rosnaram contra mim.

17 L ord, how long wilt thou look on? Rescue my soul from their destructions, my only one from the young lions.

Senhor, até quando ficarás olhando? Livra-me dos ataques deles, livra a minha vida preciosa desses leões.

18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation; I will praise thee among much people.

Eu te darei graças na grande assembléia; no meio da grande multidão te louvarei.

19 L et not them that are wrongfully mine enemies rejoice over me; let them not wink with the eye that hate me without cause.

Não deixes que os meus inimigos traiçoeiros se divirtam à minha custa; não permitas que aqueles que sem razão me odeiam troquem olhares de desprezo.

20 F or they speak not peace; and they devise deceitful words against the quiet in the land.

Não falam pacificamente, mas planejam acusações falsas contra os que vivem tranqüilamente na terra.

21 A nd they opened their mouth wide against me; they said, Aha! aha! our eye hath seen.

Com a boca escancarada, riem de mim e me acusam: “Nós vimos! Sabemos de tudo!”

22 T hou hast seen, Jehovah: keep not silence; O Lord, be not far from me.

Tu viste isso, Senhor! Não fiques calado. Não te afastes de mim, Senhor,

23 S tir up thyself, and awake for my right, for my cause, my God and Lord!

Acorda! Desperta! Faze-me justiça! Defende a minha causa, meu Deus e Senhor.

24 J udge me, Jehovah my God, according to thy righteousness, and let them not rejoice over me.

Senhor, meu Deus, tu és justo; faze-me justiça para que eles não se alegrem à minha custa.

25 L et them not say in their heart, Aha! so would we have it. Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

Não deixes que pensem: “Ah! Era isso que queríamos!”, nem que digam: “Acabamos com ele!”

26 L et them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine adversity; let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.

Sejam humilhados e frustrados todos os que se divertem à custa do meu sofrimento; cubram-se de vergonha e desonra todos os que se acham superiores a mim.

27 L et them exult and rejoice that delight in my righteousness; and let them say continually, Jehovah be magnified, who delighteth in the prosperity of his servant.

Cantem de alegria e regozijo todos os que desejam ver provada a minha inocência, e sempre repitam: “O Senhor seja engrandecido! Ele tem prazer no bem-estar do seu servo”.

28 A nd my tongue shall talk of thy righteousness, of thy praise, all the day.

Minha língua proclamará a tua justiça e o teu louvor o dia inteiro.
