1 I n the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing is true, but the appointed time of trial is long; and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

No terceiro ano de Ciro, rei da Pérsia, Daniel, chamado Beltessazar, recebeu uma revelação. A mensagem era verdadeira e falava de uma grande guerra. Na visão que teve, ele entendeu a mensagem.

2 I n those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks:

Naquela ocasião eu, Daniel, passei três semanas chorando.

3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine into my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three full weeks were fulfilled.

Não comi nada saboroso; carne e vinho nem provei; e não usei nenhuma essência aromática, até se passarem as três semanas.

4 A nd on the four-and-twentieth day of the first month, I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel:

No vigésimo quarto dia do primeiro mês, estava eu em pé junto à margem de um grande rio, o Tigre.

5 a nd I lifted up mine eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, and his loins were girded with pure gold of Uphaz;

Olhei para cima, e diante de mim estava um homem vestido de linho, com um cinto de ouro puríssimo na cintura.

6 a nd his body was like a chrysolite, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as torches of fire, and his arms and his feet as the look of burnished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.

Seu corpo era como berilo, o rosto como relâmpago, os olhos como tochas acesas, os braços e pernas como o reflexo do bronze polido, e a sua voz era como o som de uma multidão.

7 A nd I Daniel alone saw the vision; and the men that were with me saw not the vision, but a great quaking fell on them, and they fled to hide themselves.

Somente eu, Daniel, tive a visão; os que me acompanhavam nada viram, mas foram tomados de tanto pavor que fugiram e se esconderam.

8 A nd I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me; and my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.

Assim fiquei sozinho, olhando para aquela grande visão; fiquei sem forças, muito pálido, e quase desfaleci.

9 A nd I heard the voice of his words; and when I heard the voice of his words, I fell into a deep stupor on my face, and my face to the ground.

Então eu o ouvi falando e, ao ouvi-lo, caí prostrado, rosto em terra, e perdi os sentidos.

10 A nd behold, a hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and the palms of my hands.

Em seguida, a mão de alguém tocou em mim e me pôs sobre as minhas mãos e os meus joelhos vacilantes.

11 A nd he said unto me, O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words which I speak unto thee, and stand upright; for unto thee am I now sent. And as he spoke this word unto me, I stood trembling.

E ele disse: “Daniel, você é muito amado. Preste bem atenção ao que vou lhe falar; levante-se, pois eu fui enviado a você”. Quando ele me disse isso, pus-me em pé, tremendo.

12 A nd he said unto me, Fear not, Daniel; for from the first day that thou didst set thy heart to understand, and to humble thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come because of thy words.

E ele prosseguiu: “Não tenha medo, Daniel. Desde o primeiro dia em que você decidiu buscar entendimento e humilhar-se diante do seu Deus, suas palavras foram ouvidas, e eu vim em resposta a elas.

13 B ut the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

Mas o príncipe do reino da Pérsia me resistiu durante vinte e um dias. Então Miguel, um dos príncipes supremos, veio em minha ajuda, pois eu fui impedido de continuar ali com os reis da Pérsia.

14 A nd I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people at the end of the days: for the vision is yet for days.

Agora vim explicar-lhe o que acontecerá ao seu povo no futuro, pois a visão se refere a uma época futura”.

15 A nd as he was speaking with me according to these words, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.

Quando ele me disse isso, prostrei-me, rosto em terra, sem conseguir falar.

16 A nd behold, one after the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips; and I opened my mouth and spoke, and said unto him that stood before me, My lord, by reason of the vision my pains are turned upon me, and I retain no strength.

Então um ser que parecia homem tocou nos meus lábios, e eu abri a minha boca e comecei a falar. Eu disse àquele que estava em pé diante de mim: Estou angustiado por causa da visão, meu senhor, e quase desfaleço.

17 A nd how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remaineth no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.

Como posso eu, teu servo, conversar contigo, meu senhor? Minhas forças se foram, e mal posso respirar.

18 T hen there touched me again one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me;

O ser que parecia homem tocou em mim outra vez e me deu forças.

19 a nd he said, Fear not, man greatly beloved; peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And as he was speaking with me I was strengthened, and I said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

Ele disse: “Não tenha medo, você, que é muito amado. Que a paz seja com você! Seja forte! Seja forte!” Ditas essas palavras, senti-me fortalecido e disse: Fala, meu senhor, visto que me deste forças.

20 A nd he said, Knowest thou wherefore I am come unto thee? And now I return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I go forth, behold, the prince of Greece shall come.

Então ele me disse: “Você sabe por que vim? Tenho que voltar para lutar contra o príncipe da Pérsia e, logo que eu for, chegará o príncipe da Grécia;

21 H owever, I will declare unto thee that which is set down in the scripture of truth; and there is not one that sheweth himself strong with me against these, but Michael your prince.

mas antes lhe revelarei o que está escrito no Livro da Verdade. E nessa luta ninguém me ajuda contra eles, senão Miguel, o príncipe de vocês,
