1 O God of vengeances, Jehovah, God of vengeances, shine forth;

Ó Senhor, Deus vingador; Deus vingador! Intervém!

2 L ift up thyself, thou judge of the earth, render the reward to the proud.

Levanta-te, Juiz da terra; retribui aos orgulhosos o que merecem.

3 H ow long shall the wicked, O Jehovah, how long shall the wicked triumph?

Até quando os ímpios, Senhor, até quando os ímpios exultarão?

4 s hall they utter speak insolence—all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?

Eles despejam palavras arrogantes; todos esses malfeitores enchem-se de vanglória.

5 T hey crush thy people, O Jehovah, and afflict thine inheritance;

Massacram o teu povo, Senhor, e oprimem a tua herança;

6 T hey slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless,

matam as viúvas e os estrangeiros, assassinam os órfãos,

7 A nd say, Jah will not see, neither will the God of Jacob regard.

e ainda dizem: “O Senhor não nos vê; o Deus de Jacó nada percebe”.

8 U nderstand, ye brutish among the people; and ye fools, when will ye be wise?

Insensatos, procurem entender! E vocês, tolos, quando se tornarão sábios?

9 H e that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see?

Será que quem fez o ouvido não ouve? Será que quem formou o olho não vê?

10 H e that instructeth the nations, shall not he correct—he that teacheth man knowledge?

Aquele que disciplina as nações os deixará sem castigo? Não tem sabedoria aquele que dá ao homem o conhecimento?

11 J ehovah knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

O Senhor conhece os pensamentos do homem, e sabe como são fúteis.

12 B lessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Jah, and whom thou teachest out of thy law;

Como é feliz o homem a quem disciplinas, Senhor, aquele a quem ensinas a tua lei;

13 T hat thou mayest give him rest from the days of evil, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

tranqüilo, enfrentará os dias maus, enquanto que, para os ímpios, uma cova se abrirá.

14 F or Jehovah will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance;

O Senhor não desamparará o seu povo; jamais abandonará a sua herança.

15 F or judgment shall return unto righteousness, and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

Voltará a haver justiça nos julgamentos, e todos os retos de coração a seguirão.

16 W ho will rise up for me against the evil-doers? who will stand for me against the workers of iniquity?

Quem se levantará a meu favor contra os ímpios? Quem ficará a meu lado contra os malfeitores?

17 I f Jehovah had not been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

Não fosse a ajuda do Senhor, eu já estaria habitando no silêncio.

18 W hen I said, My foot slippeth, thy loving-kindness, O Jehovah, held me up.

Quando eu disse: Os meus pés escorregaram, o teu amor leal, Senhor, me amparou!

19 I n the multitude of my anxious thoughts within me thy comforts have delighted my soul.

Quando a ansiedade já me dominava no íntimo, o teu consolo trouxe alívio à minha alma.

20 S hall the throne of wickedness be united to thee, which frameth mischief into a law?

Poderá um trono corrupto estar em aliança contigo?, um trono que faz injustiças em nome da lei?

21 T hey band together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn innocent blood.

Eles planejam contra a vida dos justos e condenam os inocentes à morte.

22 B ut Jehovah will be my high tower; and my God the rock of my refuge.

Mas o Senhor é a minha torre segura; o meu Deus é a rocha em que encontro refúgio.

23 A nd he will bring upon them their iniquity, and will cut them off in their own evil: Jehovah our God will cut them off.

Deus fará cair sobre eles os seus crimes, e os destruirá por causa dos seus pecados; o Senhor, o nosso Deus, os destruirá!
