1 S trive, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me; fight against them that fight against me:

Давидів. Судися, о Господи, з тими, хто судиться зо мною воюй з тими, хто зо мною воює,

2 T ake hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help;

візьми малого й великого щита, і встань мені на допомогу!

3 A nd draw out the spear, and stop against my pursuers: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

Дістань списа, і дорогу замкни моїм напасникам, скажи до моєї душі: Я спасіння твоє!

4 L et them be put to shame and confounded that seek after my life; let them be turned backward and brought to confusion that devise my hurt:

Нехай засоромляться й будуть поганьблені ті, хто чатує на душу мою; хай відступлять назад і нехай посоромляться ті, хто лихо мені замишляє.

5 L et them be as chaff before the wind, and let the angel of Jehovah drive away;

Бодай вони стали, немов та полова на вітрі, і Ангол Господній нехай їх жене;

6 L et their way be dark and slippery, and let the angel of Jehovah pursue them.

нехай буде дорога їхна темна й сковзька, і Ангол Господній нехай їх жене,

7 F or without cause have they hidden for me their net a pit; without cause they have digged for my soul.

бо вони безпричинно тенета свої розставляють на мене, яму копають безвинно на душу мою!

8 L et destruction come upon him unawares, and let his net which he hath hidden catch himself: for destruction let him fall therein.

Нехай нагла загибіль, якої не знає, на нього спаде, і сітка його, яку він наставив, хай зловить його у нагле нещастя, бодай він до нього упав!

9 A nd my soul shall be joyful in Jehovah; it shall rejoice in his salvation.

А душа моя в Господі буде радіти, звеселиться Його допомогою!

10 A ll my bones shall say, Jehovah, who is like unto thee, who deliverest the afflicted from one stronger than he, yea, the afflicted and the needy from him that spoileth him!

Скажуть усі мої кості: Господи, хто подібний до Тебе? Ти рятуєш убогого від сильнішого над нього, покірного та бідаря від його дерія.

11 U nrighteous witnesses rise up; they lay to my charge things which I know not.

Свідки встають неправдиві, чого я не знав питають мене,

12 T hey reward me evil for good, the bereavement of my soul.

віддають мені злом за добро, осирочують душу мою!

13 B ut as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I chastened my soul with fasting, and my prayer returned into mine own bosom:

А я, як вони хворували були, зодягався в верету, душу свою мучив постом, молитва ж моя поверталась на лоно моє...

14 I behaved myself as though a friend, a brother to me; I bowed down in sadness, as one that mourneth a mother.

Як приятель, буцім то брат він для мене, так я ходив, ніби був я в жалобі по матері, був я засмучений, схилений...

15 B ut at my halting they rejoiced, and gathered together: the slanderers gathered themselves together against me, and I knew not; they did tear, and ceased not:

А вони, як упав я, радіють та сходяться, напасники проти мене збираються, я ж не знаю про те; кричать, і не вмовкають,

16 W ith profane jesters for bread, they have gnashed their teeth against me.

з дармоїдами та пересмішниками скрегочуть на мене своїми зубами...

17 L ord, how long wilt thou look on? Rescue my soul from their destructions, my only one from the young lions.

Господи, чи довго Ти будеш дивитись на це? Відверни мою душу від їхніх зубів, від отих левчуків одиначку мою!

18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation; I will praise thee among much people.

Я буду Тебе прославляти на зборах великих, буду Тебе вихваляти в численнім народі!

19 L et not them that are wrongfully mine enemies rejoice over me; let them not wink with the eye that hate me without cause.

Нехай з мене не тішаться ті, хто ворогує на мене безвинно, нехай ті не моргають очима, хто мене без причини ненавидить,

20 F or they speak not peace; and they devise deceitful words against the quiet in the land.

бо говорять вони не про мир, але на спокійних у краї облудні слова вимишляють,

21 A nd they opened their mouth wide against me; they said, Aha! aha! our eye hath seen.

свої уста на мене вони розкривають, говорять: Ага, ага! Наші очі це бачили!

22 T hou hast seen, Jehovah: keep not silence; O Lord, be not far from me.

Ти бачив це, Господи, не помовчи ж, Господи, не віддаляйся від мене!

23 S tir up thyself, and awake for my right, for my cause, my God and Lord!

Устань, і збудися на суд мій, Боже мій і Господи мій, на суперечку мою,

24 J udge me, Jehovah my God, according to thy righteousness, and let them not rejoice over me.

розсуди Ти мене до Своїй справедливості, Господи, Боже мій, і нехай через мене не тішаться,

25 L et them not say in their heart, Aha! so would we have it. Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

нехай не говорять у серці своїм: Ага, його маємо ми, хай не кажуть вони: Ми його проковтнули...

26 L et them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine adversity; let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.

Нехай посоромляться та застидаються разом, хто з мого нещастя радіє, бодай вбрались у сором та в ганьбу, хто рота свого розкриває на мене!

27 L et them exult and rejoice that delight in my righteousness; and let them say continually, Jehovah be magnified, who delighteth in the prosperity of his servant.

Хай співають та звеселяються ті, хто бажає мені правоти, і нехай кажуть завжди: Хай буде великий Господь, що миру бажає Своєму рабові!

28 A nd my tongue shall talk of thy righteousness, of thy praise, all the day.

А язик мій звіщатиме правду Твою, славу Твою кожен день!
