1 I n the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by the prophet Haggai unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

Другого року царя Дарія, шостого місяця, першого дня місяця, було Господнє слово через пророка Огія до Зоровавеля, Шеалтіїлового сина, Юдиного намісника, та до Ісуса, Єгосадакового сина, великого священика, кажучи:

2 T hus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that Jehovah's house should be built.

Так говорить Господь Саваот, промовляючи: Народ цей говорить: Не прийшов тепер час дому Господнього, щоб бути збудованим!

3 A nd the word of Jehovah came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

І було Господнє слово через пророка Огія, говорячи:

4 I s it time for you that ye should dwell in your wainscoted houses, while this house lieth waste?

Чи час вам сидіти по ваших домах, покритих кафлями, хоч дім цей збурений?

5 A nd now thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.

А тепер отак промовляє Господь Саваот: Зверніть ваше серце до ваших доріг!

6 Y e have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but are not satisfied; ye drink, but are not filled with drink; ye clothe yourselves, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages for a bag with holes.

Багато ви сієте, та збираєте мало, їсте, та не насичуєтеся, п'єте та не напиваєтеся, зодягаєтеся та не тепло вам, а той, хто заробляє, заробляє для дірявого гаманця.

7 T hus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.

Так говорить Господь Саваот: Зверніть ваше серце до ваших доріг!

8 G o up to the mountain and bring wood, and build the house, and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith Jehovah.

Виходьте на гору, і спроваджуйте дерево, і храм цей будуйте, і в ньому знайду Я вподобу, та буду шанований, каже Господь.

9 Y e looked for much, and behold it was little; and when ye brought it home, I blew upon it. Wherefore? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, whilst ye run every man to his own house.

Звертаєтесь до численного, та виходить ось мало, і що приносите в дім, то розвіюю те. Защо? питає Господь Саваот. За храм Мій, що збурений він, а ви кожен женете до дому свого.

10 T herefore over you the heavens withhold their dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit.

Тому то над вами затрималось небо давати росу, а земля урожай свій задержала.

11 A nd I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon man, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

І Я кликав посуху на Край, і на гори, і на збіжжя, і на сік виноградний, і на молоду оливку, і на те, що земля видає, і на людину, і на худобу, і на всю працю рук.

12 A nd Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, according as Jehovah their God had sent him, and the people feared before Jehovah.

І Зоровавель, син Шалтіелів, та Ісус, син Єгосадака, великого священика, та вся решта народу послухалися голосу Господа, Бога свого, і слів пророка Огія, як послав його Господь, їхній Бог. І боявся народ лиця Господнього.

13 T hen spoke Haggai, Jehovah's messenger, in Jehovah's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith Jehovah.

І сказав Огій, посол Господній, від Господа посланий до народу, говорячи: Я з вами, говорить Господь!

14 A nd Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked at the house of Jehovah of hosts, their God,

І збудив Господь духа Зоровавеля, сина Шалтіїлового, намісника Юдиного, і духа Ісуса, сина Єгосадака, великого священика, і духа всієї решти народу, і вони поприходили, і зробили роботу в домі Господа Саваота, їхнього Бога,

15 i n the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

двадцятого й четвертого дня шостого місяця, другого року царя Дарія.
